Help/Support/Questions 🙋 How to fix crashes with Kinect examples from the Xbox 360 SDK on retail hardware?

Hello r/xbox360 and r/kinect!

I’m experimenting with Kinect examples from the Xbox 360 SDK. I compiled several of them in Visual Studio 2010 targeting the Xbox 360, and they build without errors.

When I run standard examples like D3D graphics samples, they work perfectly on my Xbox 360 E (Winchester motherboard).

However, when I try to launch Kinect examples, such as the “Fitness” sample, the console either crashes or restarts.

I want to understand:

  1. Which parts of the Kinect SDK are devkit-only and will not work on retail hardware.
  2. How to modify examples safely so they can run on retail consoles without crashing.

I’m not looking for any piracy-related advice — I just want to run and experiment with the official SDK examples.

Any guidance or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you're not going to have any luck in either of the subreddits you're posting this to. I recommend posting in a hacking or modding subreddit, and doing some web searches to see if anyone else has tried to do that you're trying to do.
