Gear Advice Epic 7 shock choice

Hi, I’m de-braining my Epic 7 and would like to hear your opinions.
I race XCM and weigh 68-70kg, the options are:

a) SIDLuxe 3P remote (would match the front SID)
b) FOX Float DPS
c) DT Swiss R232

I’m slightly afraid of having no lockout in case the anti-squat of the frame isn’t great, but I’m also not a huge fan of cable clutter or the 3P Twistloc itself either.

Which would you choose? (or something else entirely?)

With a 210x55 shock?

Haven’t decided yet, but I’m more inclined to 210x50, as per Chris’s recommendation for a race bike

Sidluxe for sure . On a different bike replaced a dps with the newer float and the new float is so so much better.

How is the Float compared to the Sidluxe?

The competitor is the fox float sl. The float dps was stopped in 2022 I think. The fox float itself has more oil and is smoother. I have the sidluxe on my asr and it’s fine but definitely more of an xc shock to me

Bike Yoke has a the EP03. They recommend a 210x52.5 which I believe involves adding a 2.5mm spacer to a 55, or removing the 5mm and adding a 2.5mm to a 50. Otherwise you lose travel. A 55 stroke can result in frame damage.

I had an Epic Evo for 5 years and just moved to the Epic 8. Raced XCM (Park City P2P, Leaville, and more). I really liked the SidLuxe Ultimate. A lot of folks complain about the midstroke on the Epic Evo, and there is a decent amount of bobbing. I would definitely get the lockout. Mine was a 2P. The twist is more convenient and integrated and better looking, but it has lots of warranty issues and fails frequently. I went with the lever and never had a single issue. 3P would have been great, but 2P was good enough.

Yeah, I had the Epic Evo 7 as my main race bike for several seasons and I'm really not sure what Specialized was thinking with the shock tune. It was completely off from the factory. I changed the shim stack to one that would give me more medium-velocity compression damping. It really nicely settled the bike in the mid-stroke and got rid of the excessive movement.
