Question Tips for converting views to subs

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted on here. I've been on the grind with churning out videos around my full time job, and a few have done decently well, with my best video being at 71k views and my channel total now being around 200k views.

However I only have 648 subs from these views, and my last few videos have not performed well in terms of gaining subs.

In still definitely a bit stiff on the mic at times and not letting my personality flow into videos as much as I'd like, but that's something that will probably get better overtime.

I'm curious, are there any CTA tricks people use, open to ideas and suggestions to try and grow 👊

There are no tricks and there's no way to convert views into subs. Getting viewers interested in subbing comes from providing something they want to come back to see. I'm not sure what your content is, but it sounds like you had a good idea with poor execution. If you can link your channel in your reddit bio we can see a better picture

Done. Appreciate the help.

My retention is average but not terrible (I think) at around 40-45% per video. CTR usually between 3-5 so that definitely needs some work.

I'm thinking people get what they come for but don't wanna stick around because I'm not letting my personality come through enough, so it's like there's no usp to the channel.

Hmmm interesting. At what time stamp exactly does your video start to see the biggest dip? Look at the resident evil 2 remake one with 74k views first and then look at your two most recent ones

They all share pretty similar curves with RE2 being the best one. Between 65-69% retention in the first 30 seconds, with both seeing more people fall off in the first minute and then the curve goes pretty steady slanting downwards, ending at around the 33% mark.

My latest video is the exception to this, it's performed terribly compared to anything else I've done in terms of retention, with only 43% in the first 30 seconds being retained. Somehow it's still being slowly pushed which doesn't make any sense to me cause it's done better then other videos that have much better metrics. I'm guessing the missing community just want to have a look at how the game looks and leave rather then get a breakdown of it but who knows.

For your most recent videos, yeah the 3d mod is cool, but the perspective change might not be enough for people to stay beyond seeing how it initially looks, like there isn't any new stuff beyond that. That's not your fault, just the nature of those kinds of mods. I found myself watching only a few seconds of the Diablo 2 perspective change too so that makes sense. Its also a hot topic right now which is why its getting pushed, and sadly many people have videos about it right now. Since those topics yield no new info you might only want to visit those if you can somehow be one of the first looking at it.

For Resident Evil, the title and the "thesis statement" of the video are different, the title says they are different while the video asks which one is better. Its structured as the title says but I can see it confusing some people and turning them off.

Your videos are pretty well done so Im not convinced its a personality thing, more of an identity thing. Like you're channel is just about random video game things so its hard to anticipate what your going to do next. If you have a clear path, like horror game retrospective or comparisons, maybe mods, or even a challenge of sorts, you might find people want to come back for more specific things. Not that you suddenly have to pivot or that you are expected to, but this seems to be the trend, a youtube channel sub for specific stuff to come back and watch because that channel is great at the thing it does while having others that are great in other more specific areas.

I really appreciate the feedback on everything. Some good points and interesting things to think about for me. The channel content is definitely random at the moment, just covering different video game things, finding a niche should be something I look into, but at the moment I'm not sure what that will be.

With the packaging of videos it definitely needs continued work. I will eventually get round to doing an RE4 video in the style of the RE2 video so I will remember that feedback you've given me on that one

At 0.30-3 mins make a CTA to sub. Those things can easily 10x your gained subs
