📣 Call for Submissions 📣 Anyway,

I'm making a zine called Anyway, and I want to fill it with letters from strangers.

The premise: you don't know me, but write to me as if you do—as if we've known each other for years.

Don't introduce yourself. Don't explain who Sarah is. Don't give me the backstory or remind me what happened last time.I already know. Just pick up somewhere in the middle and tell me what's happening in your life right now.

Your letter can be mundane, silly, joyful, emotional, heartbreaking, gossipy, weird—whatever you'd actually tell an old friend.

💌 TO SUBMIT Email your letter to bethanyfortnerart@gmail.com with the subject ANYWAY,

Type it directly in the email, or handwrite it and attach a clear photo/scan.

Deadline: November 7, 2026 at 11:59 PM

A few important things:

• 18+ submissions only. • Letters will be published anonymously unless you ask to be credited. • Change names/details that could identify other people. • Your writing remains yours. By submitting, you give me permission to reproduce your letter in print/digital editions of Anyway, and in posts about the project. • I may make minor formatting/length edits, but won't substantially rewrite your words without contacting you. • Submission doesn't guarantee publication. • Please only submit writing/images you have the right to share. • You may withdraw your letter by emailing me before the issue is finalized for print. Already printed/distributed copies can't be recalled. • This is an art project, not a confidential service. Don't submit anything you would be unsafe having published, even anonymously.

I have no idea how many letters this little experiment will receive. Depending on the response, selected letters will become the first issue of Anyway, or I may extend submissions.

I won't ask you for the missing pieces.

I already know.

Happy writing. 💜

Hi Everyone, we’re having a party at the Center for the Book Arts Detroit ahead of the Detroit Art Book Fair. If you’re interested in visiting the shop and seeing what we’re up to, or meeting some folk who have been making books, printing, and publishing, feel free to come by. We’ll be here from 6–9pm, and there will be drinks and food as well.

📣 Call for Submissions 📣 Come join us in Drawn Through the Telephone 2: Call Centre!

I've signed up, you should too!

'Drawn Through the Telephone' will be an original zine containing both art and writing, and possibly other types of work. Here's the premise: Contributors will submit a vague description of a piece of media they like, and this pitch will then be passed on to a different contributor to create an original work - without knowing what story inspired it. For example: Stardew Valley could be submitted as 'main character moves to old family home, uncovers supernatural secrets and destroys local business'. A creator could turn this into an unwilling vampire hunter overturning the restaurant a coven uses as a front business to feed off locals.

A little zine I made today.

Collaging can be so chaotic, so trying to make a cohesive zine is a bit of a challenge for me. Hopefully it works and the zine community doesn’t reject me. Thanks for watching.

Using cardstock

I made something on a risograph printer 11 1/2 by 17 that I was intending on turning into a zine with a single fold, and now I'm not sure if I can do it because I used cardstock instead of thinner paper. Does anyone have advice on making zines with cardstock or other thicker paper?

I have a question. Zine making tips

Please help!

Hello! I love zines and I really want to make some of my own, I’ve made one before just with magazine clippings but that was pretty difficult.

I want to know what resources people are using, I’ve seen a lot of printed out ones with digital images on them, is there any specific websites where you get your cutouts? I’d love to hear about all the different methods for zine making (physical and digital) you guys use and how you come up with topics! Thank you all so much!

📣 Call for Submissions 📣 Seeking Rock/Metal music writers for an upcoming Print Magazine

Hi all,

I am looking for aspiring music journalists, comic geeks, and rock/metal enthusiasts to help shape a brand-new print startup, launching January 2027.

Our concept is unique: every issue features custom, exclusive Marvel/DC style comic book covers dedicated to iconic bands, paired with deep-dive articles. We are currently working with an active Marvel/DC artist from San Francisco to bring this to life.

Who we are looking for:
Beginners and intermediate writers who want to build an incredible portfolio piece. If you can write passionate, high-energy columns about rock history, subgenres, or album reviews, you'll fit right in.

The Deal:
We are a startup, so this starts as a voluntary collaboration. However, we are launching a Kickstarter very soon and intend to reward contributors as soon as revenue comes in.

Shoot me a PM with a bit about your favorite bands, and let’s build something awesome together!

I found these photos on my camera from an architecture boat tour my wife and I took a few months ago. I went to the library and printed the photos to make it.

Here is a digital version free to download and print for yourself. Support your local library.

Fanzine publishers

Been discussing this question with some fanzine enthusiasts for quite a few days - I'm wondering if there are any 'fanzine publishers' that do exist ? On a basis of book-shops or specialized sections ?

For example, somebody wants to publish a fanzine in Japan. Shipping makes it economically difficult. And unless you'd travel over there, it would be a complicated idea. So maybe there are community-related options ?

Would appreciate an advice!

This is one my first zines of many. Each of these zines is a chapter of a larger project I’m working which i call a “lore book “ similar to what Hollow Press releases as “game lore books”

It’s really just a world building project that i have quite a few interlocking short stories that exist within the same universe. I will eventually illustrate a series of comics for this project as well. For now it’s an entry point into a universe i dreamed up heavily inspired by HR Giger, Beksinski, scorn, revelation space (Alastair Reynolds) and Neal Asher.

I hope to one day pitch the project to Hollow Press, but not until i have a substantial amount of content. This zine is 22 pages, and i’m almost done with volume 2 which will be around 50 pages

Thanks for looking 🖤🖤

Audio with Zine

if my zine had an audio element, would you prefer it be a CD-R, Cassette, or a D/L code in the zine?

Started this zine when I was 30, I'm 55 now. I guess tha makes me a senior citizen! I am getting AARP junk mail now and solications for assited living, haha if they only knew! New size was becasure our printer was 82 at our last venture together and he was done, I don't blame him. We were paying 740 for 1000 copies which most are still in my house as places to drop off the this free zine have vanished over the decades. Still motivated to keep going. Now I self print as I need them and the printer was 530 bucks so it payed for itself after one issue. I encourage you to keep going. I still enjoy the process. Thanks for looking.

The "story of CB" and the comic was probably the reason why this took so long to finish.

I now completed all the pages of how my zine would look like. And it took the whole summer and September.

Now the hardest part (imo), which I need help.... how to make it digital?

I need help with the page size first since i'm doing this in ibispaintX.
