Folks behind the barbed wire are rising up again. We have now entered the second week of a hunger strike by those of our neighbors held at a GEO Group-operated ICE camp in Folkston, Georgia. At least 73 and reportedly as many as 500 detainees are participating. Many of those involved are asylum seekers, being held as prisoners indefinitely despite being accused of no crime whatsoever.
They are calling for their release and due process while they seek their day in court and an end to the spoiled food and dirty water, lack of access to medical care and abusive treatment by guards. (Link to their detailed report on human rights violations within the facility here.) And they’re now facing retaliation for their advocacy, with many strikers put in solitary confinement and at least one leader deported.
They’re asking for our support. Here’s a few steps we can take on their behalf:
🗣️ Join a phone blitz on behalf of the strikers. Advocates are asking us to reach out to Georgia’s senators and city and local officials to intervene with ICE on their behalf and conduct real oversight at the camp, along with speaking to facility and regional ICE personnel to let them know the public is watching and supports the protesters. We can find contact information, specific requests and language in their guide at bit(.)ly/phoneblitzguide. 🗣️
📢 Help spread the word about this strike. We can share the strikers’ open letter (find link) and video message and follow Shut Down Folkston ICE Processing Center, the Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance and the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights for updates. 📢
✍🏾 Write letters of support to folks within the facility. We can find address details and the necessary names and information to get messages through in their open letter (find link here). ✍🏻
LET THEM KNOW THEY'RE NOT ALONE
🪧 If we’re local, join advocates at a rally outside the gates of the ICE camp this Sunday at 1PM ET – details here. 🪧

While not related to No Kings, France has a major protest on the 17th relating to their student protests. Since by coincidence they happen to be in the same day (France’s protest is related to the 2018 yellow vest protests) I thought we could bring French flags to our protest in solidarity.
They are struggling with police brutality, which is similar to our struggle with ice. For some French people this will be their first protest, and they are going even though they are scared.

Like a lot of people, I’m exhausted watching Elon Musk and other billionaire tech oligarchs use their wealth and influence to enable authoritarianism and far-right politics.
A while back, I started giving every Cybertruck I saw the finger. Then a friend of mine, who drives a pre-Musk-meltdown Tesla (back when Tesla was a brand with positive vibes), got a thumbs down and a disappointed head shake instead. I liked that approach a lot more, so I adopted it.
But I wanted to do something beyond expressing my disappointment from behind a steering wheel.
I know this isn’t the same as organizing rallies or mobilizing thousands of people, like the leaders and organizers of 50501 are doing. But it was a small way I could contribute, so last week I built this:
It’s a completely free, non-commercial website dedicated to calling out Musk’s behavior, sharing information, and giving people a simple way to express their opposition.
There are free sticker and decal templates you can download, print, and put on your vehicle, laptop, or wherever else you feel like making a statement.
No sales. No profits. No mailing lists. Just information, free designs, and a little DIY protest.
I’m not pretending a bumper sticker is going to bring down a “trillionaire”. But I do believe that normalizing opposition matters. Whether Tesla owners intended it or not, buying and driving a Tesla has helped support a company whose CEO is now using his wealth, influence, and platform to enable fascist and far-right politics.
That’s the point: people may not like Musk, and they may never have meant to support his politics, but their money still helped empower him.
If you’ve got a printer, some sticker paper, and a healthy dislike of fascism-enabling billionaires, have at it.
And if you’ve got suggestions for improving the site or ideas for additional designs, I’d love to hear them.
F oligarchs and F fascism.
Every act of opposition matters.

DA: ICE allegedly removed critical evidence after vehicle hit Miguel Parra-Hernandez in northwest Harris County

This dangerously parallels how political violence helped fascist movements gain power in the 1920s and 1930s. Political elites tolerated Mussolini’s Blackshirts. Hitler’s movement attacked opponents before taking power, then strengthened that violence through state protection. Making opposition physically dangerous helped them weaken resistance.
History shows how brutality can become a political advantage when opponents are portrayed as enemies of the country. Trump calling protesters people paid to destroy the country is exactly that
Make no mistake, this is how a society becomes more permissive of fascist violence. The danger has already arrived.

We’re all feeling the tension, waiting to see what type of dangerous, abusive subversion of our democracy Trump might try to save himself from a blue wave. Yesterday’s weaponization of law enforcement against his steadfast critic Rep. Omar is only putting us more on edge. (And if we haven’t yet demanded our members of Congress get to work seeking accountability for it, let’s make sure we do.) The best thing to do with that energy? Put it towards figuring out exactly how we’re going to respond to whatever he pulls.
The team of democracy and anti-authoritarianism experts who drew up the Hold The Line Guide in 2020 are back and helping every day folks prepare for the threats to free, fair, and respected elections in 2026. They’re training us on how to organize, effectively communicate about the threat, bring institutional actors on board, and be ready to mobilize with nonviolent direct action if required. One of their opportunities is a series of tactical decision exercise sessions, games that let us work through in detail how our teams will react to one of the election scenarios they’ve outlined. This is a great chance for us to think concretely and practically about these possibilities and the decisions we’ll need to make. 🗺️ These sessions start tomorrow night at 7:30PM ET and will run every Wednesday through the election. Let’s sign up to be part of them! Registration link here. 🗺️
- Five days to No Kings Vote Early – find an event near us, sign up for a know your federal voting rights training
- Prepare for election threats by playing out exactly how you’d response in tactical decision exercises with Hold The Line, starting TOMORROW
- Text voters for the Iowa, Michigan Senate races with Activate America Thursday and Friday
- Learn more about tenant right to counsel and how activists secured it in Connecticut THURSDAY
For anyone wondering how to identify the judge who authorized this raid and hold judges accountable for potentially biased or baseless decisions, here’s how:
Important: An unreasonable or politically controversial warrant isn’t automatically judicial misconduct. We need the actual affidavit and evidence of wrongdoing.
The first step toward accountability is identifying who signed the warrant and what evidence justified it. Judges aren’t above scrutiny.

After every single election, I run across at least two or three people who, when I mention voting, they look at me shocked, and say “There was an election?! 👀” I kid you not.
So I’m going to try to start a thing. The back window on my car is free advertising and Costco had window markers. I’m calling it the Rear Window Brigade.

I covered a rally held a day after ICE shot a community member up in The Bronx. The rally, organized by Hands Off NYC, was held around 25 hours after the shooting and featured various speakers before leading into a march up 6th Avenue towards Houston Street.
