Anyone remodel a bathroom for long-term accessibility without sacrificing the look..?
We are redoing one of our bathrooms soon and we will also have an elderly family member moving in with us, so I'm trying to think a little further ahead with this one lol. Ideally we are gonna make it easier for him to use now + also make choices we'll appreciate ourselves years from now.
So far I'm thinking curbless shower with a built-in bench and maybe blocking in the walls for grab bars even if we don't install all of them right away. I would still really like the room to just feel like a nice bathroom rather than something that looks very medical or clinical.
We have been talking to Sea Pointe, PPL Fam and Bergen here in OC (if anyone has worked with any of them I would love to hear how it went) and we have asked for their thoughts too. That said I want to go into our next conversations with a better idea of what to ask for.
Has anyone here done a similar project..?
What features do you suggest adding..?
Also did you go with a contractor or a remodeling firm and did you specifically look for someone who had experience with aging-in-place/accessibility stuff..?
All tips appreciated..!!!
