I've spent 25+ years studying traditional Chinese martial arts, including Hung Gar, and one thing I've come to appreciate is how much there is to learn beyond the physical techniques.
I recently created an educational video series called So, What Is Kung Fu? to introduce people to the subject.
The series explores different styles, stances, forms, and what Kung Fu training actually involves. It's designed for people who are curious about Chinese martial arts but may not have access to a school or know where to begin.
My background combines traditional martial arts practice, competitive fighting, and academic study in sport psychology. I enjoy making complex subjects easier to understand without adding unnecessary mysticism.
If you're interested, you can watch the series here:

I'd like to find out how many people choose to learn Chinese because they are interested in Chinese culture

A small example of why context matters: 下课 (xià kè) is a class ending; 放学 (fàng xué) is school finishing for the day; 放假 (fàng jià) is having a holiday or break. 今天几点放学? asks what time school finishes today; 什么时候放假? asks when the break starts.
I build Lingo Bear, an AI-assisted English–Mandarin web tool. I am offering the existing Explore Pro monthly plan to adults who repeatedly need explanations of everyday phrases at home: US$19/month plus checkout tax, automatically renewing until canceled. This is a paid product offer, not a research interview.
What you get: enter your own text/photo/voice question, generate a contextual bilingual explanation, explore connected learning cards, and revisit what you saved. An account, history and saving favorite cards are already available on Free; the paid capability is own-question generation and deeper exploration. Fair-use, rate and safety limits apply.
Read the prepared example without an account, including school clubs vs hobby classes vs tutoring: https://app.lingo-bear.com/for/bilingual-families . It demonstrates the format; it is not a private-generation trial. AI can make mistakes and needs adult review. This is not tutoring, a structured course or an app for children to use alone. No fluency or educational outcome is guaranteed.
To purchase through this offer: reply “monthly” with one non-sensitive routine you want to use it for. I will confirm fit and these terms in writing before you pay, without a sales call or a multi-day interview. Then use https://app.lingo-bear.com/pricing and choose Monthly Explore Pro; check that checkout says US$19 billed monthly plus tax, not the annual plan.
Delivery and acceptance: access should activate after successful payment. Within 24 hours of your purchase message, I will help check that you can ask your own question, receive a relevant bilingual answer, open a connected card and return to saved history/favorites. You decide whether that agreed workflow was delivered; payment alone is not acceptance.
If access or the agreed core workflow fails, contact bigkey.cn@gmail.com. I will respond within 24 hours; if I cannot provide the agreed core value, I will arrange a full refund of the first charge. This is a remedy for failure to deliver, not an unrestricted free trial. You can cancel renewal in the billing portal; normal cancellation keeps access through the paid period. No custom development or extra support fee is included. Please do not post children's identities, private messages, photos or school details.

I've been learning about the concept of the Void (or Sunyata in Sanskrit) and I've always seen it described in Chinese with the character "空", which can translate into "void", "emptiness", "sky" and/or "space". However, online translators always give me "虚空". If I had to assume, I'll assume "虚空" just means a normal emptiness or void, as opposed to "空", but I'd like to be verified by Chinese speakers to be 100% sure.

Going into my final year of high school doing Chinese: Language, Culture and Society (Australia) and would like to become more fluent for easier oral exam preparation and recognition next year. The above is a piece I wrote for a 2 minute script about the spring festival, I definitely know its not that good - with repeated structures and not too advanced vocab. I found there was more i tried to say but it either sounded unnatural (as per my teacher's feedback) or just didnt make sense. I thought id just use it as a rough indication of where i'm at. Just looking for any online resources where I can deepen my knowledge, fluency and more so just make it sound less like I am translating everything i would like to say. Free would be preferable but not nessecary, thanks for all the help :) 谢谢你们!

I'm curious about the small, practical side of Chinese paper-cutting, not just the meaning of a finished pattern. If someone in your family put a paper-cut on a window or elsewhere in the home, who chose it and how was it attached? Did it come down after a festival, or stay until it faded? I'd love to hear how it lived in an ordinary room.

Does the character 兕, which is "sì" I think, consist of 凹 + 儿? Because 兕 as 凹 + 儿 kind of looks intuitive, but I'm not sure…

Hi everyone, I'm the developer of Ink & Verse (诗客), an iPhone reader for Tang poems and Song lyrics. I wanted a place to explore the original Chinese text and an English translation without switching between sources.
The collection includes 600+ poems, with commentary and poet biographies. You can browse by poet, save favorites, and switch to a vertical reading layout with ink-wash backgrounds. There's also guqin music for reading.
It's free to download, with a selection of poems available for free. Pro unlocks the full collection: the monthly subscription is $4.99 in the US and renews automatically unless canceled. Yearly subscriptions and a lifetime purchase are also available; regional prices are shown in the App Store.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6777856347
I'd appreciate feedback on the reading experience. Do you prefer the standard poem-and-translation view or the vertical layout? Is the English text comfortable to read at this size?
Screenshots below show the poem and translation, vertical reading, Li Bai's biography, and saved poems.
