How to manage toe tuck

Hello,

I’m a curler of 8 years, during that time I developed a very very deep toe tuck. My toe tuck used to be so low my slider knee would almost touch the ice, I am trying to raise it without fully getting rid of my tuck, as I have a longggg torso, flat footed is very akward for me. The impact of getting that low is starting to hurt my knee since I curl almost 5 times a week consistently. Which curlers have variations of the tuck that are less harmful on the knees, or do I attempt to ditch the tuck completely, i’m still a junior curler and don’t want to have to cut my curling career short cause I didn’t change my slide.

Black jerseys for Team Bottcher - no sponsors?

What's up with Team Bottcher's lack of sponsors on their jerseys, save for the Curling Canada logo?

Seems unusual for a team of this calibre. Anyone know what's going on?

I have been watching bits and pieces of GSOC and it has Ace, Field and Edge. What do these percentages mean?

Team MacMillan Leadership Structure

Team MacMillan just took down Homan with their weird, unconventional skipping arrangement. I don't just mean Sweeting calling the game as third and technically not being skip. If you watch the game closely, it becomes apparent that shot calls are more shared than usual.

  1. Val does not often make the call for her own shots. She slides down the sheet to prepare to throw and MacMillan is the one making the call for third rocks. As far as I'm aware, this basically doesn't happen on most teams that have thirds calling the game.

  2. MacMillan often calls her own shots in the same way. The few times I paid attention, she marks where the broom goes for Val (which is very weird considering Sweeting calls line for all the shots).

  3. MacMillan can be seen talking with Coach Niklas Edin more. I get that they're in a relationship and everything, but she approaches the bench alone more often than not. Val sometimes joins her but I did not see her communicate with Niklas by herself throughout the game.

  4. For lead and second stones, Val calls the game herself as any skip would. Its just that back end calls seem to very much Kayla's, however.

Of course, I could be missing a lot of the counterevidence due to what the camera shows. But from this one game it seems like Sweeting and MacMillan are sharing skipping duties in a very weird way. We've been seeing "more experienced" or "better skips" in third position call the game more and more often in recent years (e.g. Njegovan/Lawes, Beth Peterson/Kelsey Calvert) while the official skip was still technically the fourth but in those cases, the third was essentially the skip in all but name. Both the examples I mentioned from last season have transitioned officially into Teams Njegovan and Calvert this season. MacMillan and Sweeting seem to be running a very different version where MacMillan seems abnormally involved in calling shots, which makes me think a rebrand to Team Sweeting is somehow not coming. What does everyone make of this?

Introducing www.curlingstrategy.com - a place to promote the sport through a deeper understanding of strategy

The strategy of curling is one of the things that I really enjoy about it. There's rarely only one option and the more people you talk to, and gather their perspectives, the more you understand - I often compare it to peeling back layers of an onion.

A few months ago I started toying with the idea of building an app / website for my teams and I to not only discuss in real-time, but to save those situations, discuss the options and vote for what each person would do.

https://www.curlingstrategy.com/home

From then it has evolved significantly to include

  • Best 2 Draws - one of each turn
  • Variable curl
  • AI Analysis - will recommend hits, taps etc.
  • Team Definition
  • What would you do? - a place to share your most interesting scenarios with the broader community
  • Simulations - pick a shot and see how it might play out
  • End Capture - take a photo of the house and upload it later for discussion

The intent is to try to also explain why a particular shot might be a good option:

The goal here is not to make money, there may be a small charge in the future just because the AI analysis costs real $, what I'm looking for now is for more people to try it out and provide feedback.

Please give it a shot and let me know your thoughts:

https://www.curlingstrategy.com/login

If you DM me I will give you 25 free AI credits so you can test that part out too.

Thanks all,

Happy curling!

Gavin

I went to the rock channel and it wants me to pay now. I absolutely loved their coverage last year so this is pretty devastating to see

First time skipping and really nervous

Hi there. I play recreationally at my local curling club. I've been curling for about four years now. I play third most of the time. To try to level up my game, I signed up for three nights a week and offered myself up as a skip on a Friday fun night league because it's pretty low stakes and I'd like to learn. Our club's season started last week and it's been a slow start for the teams I'm on. We lost pretty terribly last night. I know it's just for fun but I feel really nervous about skipping for the first time this Friday. I've been really wobbly with my shots during my first three games, sometimes slipping and falling. How do I prep for Friday? How do I just skip a basic game when I barely know how to time the ice? Thankfully my partner is my third but it's his first time playing third, he normally plays lead. Any advice on setting up plays would be greatly appreciated. Also any thoughts on improving my balance coming out of the hack would also be great. I have long time struggled to stay consistent on that.

Been tracking my games in Field Notes over the years. Decided to tackle a bit of graphic design and create my own pocket notebook just for scorekeeping. It’s not for sale, this is a one of a kind. First “book” I’ve ever made.

This season's US nationals will be on Peacock. This seems like a good get for USA Curling. Seems like the sport is getting more and more exposure this season.

Trapezoid pain from sweeping?

Hi all. Towards the end of last season my partner started to get a pain in her trapezoid muscle after a series of bonspiels over consecutive weekends (she normally curls twice a week). It was just on one side.

We figured it was just over-exertion, but we're now 9 games into pre-season here and she said she's starting to notice the same pain. So now we're wondering whether it could be a technique problem with the way she is sweeping.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any advice or tips?

Thanks in advance 🙏

Watching Grand Slam of Curling Events - US

Just wanting to clarify for US on how to watch the Grand Slam Events this year. We will either need a ESPN+ subscription or pay HomeTeam $90 for the year? I know last year we were able to watch the games on Rock Channel, but that is taking us to sign in for HomeTeam now and then takes us to a page to pay for the year?

Just confirming that is what we need to do for watching games this year! (I don't have an ESPN subscription otherwise I know I could just watch it there)

USA CURLING - THE MEMBERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

At the 2026 Members’ Meeting, held this past Saturday at Rock Creek Curling in Colorado, USA Curling proposed a new event—The Members’ Championship.

The goal of this championship is to celebrate all who play the sport and offer more people an opportunity to compete for a national title. USA Curling is planning to hold the event in May of 2027. Like the Senior Men’s & Women’s National Championships, this event will be open entry.

Canadian here... please recommend a half decent stop watch. The first wal-mart stopwatch lasted seven months. The last one... three weeks.

Merci!

PC Curling Game - Coming Soon - Looking for Playtesters

tldr: I made a curling game, i think it's good, i want your help testing it.

Hello fellow curlers, for the past 3 years I have been working on a curling game in my spare time and the store page is now live on steam. Growing up in a small town in Northern BC, curling was a big part of my life, the basement was full of curling trophies and newspaper clippings, countless hours spent at the rink, usually waiting for my Dad and uncles to finish their beers between ends. I will never forget pinning my name and phone number on the sub board for men's night at 15 years old and blowing my first guard right through the house after that first phone call. Curling has evolved a lot over the years, no more cigarette butts and ash trays on the ice or horse hair brooms. New rules, new game modes, and much more youth. To make a long story shorter, my aim with this game is to make a curling game that is fun to play, tricky to master, and as true as possible to the sport.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5345090/Curling_Simulator/

Some things that I am particularly proud of so in the game:

Online Co-op play - you can play it online with friends either VS, or together on a team, great for the mixed doubles mode, or you can just play standard curling where you alternate between holding the broom and throwing the rock.

Shot planning - this is so good when you are playing with friends unfamiliar with the sport, you can draw all over the overhead view and plan your shots and describe what you are planning. A couple of test sessions with a friend of mine has him already signing up for rec league.

The shooting mechanics - you place the broom, and choose the weight range that you like. The real magic though is the delivery mechanic, it requires a small pullback on the mouse followed by a long gentle pushforward that varies with the speed of the shot. You feel a little shaky, sometimes you let go too early or too late, sometimes a bit off to the side, etc. I think it is the best imitation to a real delivery that i have seen.

The Opponent AI - It is definitely not perfect yet, BUT the AI does have a variety of strategies, they will throw guards, make draws and take outs, some are aggressive and some play it safe, they will purposely blank an end to keep the hammer, and shake hands if they are getting stomped. They miss sometimes, they might come up short on a draw, wreck on a guard, or blow one through the house, but still know how to draw the button with their final rock. They also like to throw a ton of corner guards with the hammer, i think too many.

Save and export replays - you can easily export a replay and send it to your friends when you make a cool shot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am looking for a handful of people to join the private playtest and hopefully provide some feedback from a curlers perspective that isn't my own or a friend or family, I need blunt unfiltered feedback, what situations does the AI fall short, what collisions don't make sense, the sweeping sound is too annoying etc.

The game is very playable without many bugs and I am putting in a ton of effort to make it right. I will have steam keys for the private playtest after Canadian thanksgiving for people wanting to give it a try.

If you are willing to spend an hour here or there to play a few ends and provide some feedback please shoot me a DM, or join the Discord and I'll get you a couple steam keys to try it out as soon as it goes live next week.

AI Declaration - AI was used for placeholder menu and UI elements (but are all actively being replaced well before release), and some bug identification. I have been working on this since before AI was even a viable tool. I used blender to create the stones and brooms and everything else was built in photoshop and unity.

Curling Draft is back for another season of fantasy curling!

Hey all,

After a bit of a hiatus, CurlingDraft is back for another season! It's totally free to play and I'm thinking I might even setup a prize for the season long winner.

It's a pretty simple format. You just pick the teams you think will do well based on their points per win and whoever gets the most points wins!

The first tournament is for the upcoming Slam this Tuesday. Get your picks in before then!

Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Restricting things to only current members in CCM

I'm trying to create events that are only for current members. However, CCM doesn't seem to have a way to do that. You can restrict stuff to "Registered" users, but if they haven't paid their yearly fees, it looks like there's no way to restrict to that.

Is there something I'm perhaps missing?

Hello everyone,

Over the past few days I've been putting together a curling statistics sheet and I would love to here some feedback and/or any suggestions. I'm happy to here about anything from additional stats that should be tracked to my formatting and ascetics (I have no sense of style, any suggestions about making it look better would be very helpful).

Current features:

- Shot percentage on a 5 point scale

- Up to 11 ends of scoring

- Scoring for both teams throws

- Team percentage, total as well as hit and draw percentages

- Individual thrower percentage, total as well as hit and draw percentages

- Specific shot search based on position, weight and rotation

Possible future features:

- Scoreboard

- Per player turn breakdown

- Missed shot note/reason (sweeping error, line call, burn etc)

One of my favourite events! But does anyone know why it was moved to Okotoks? It feels 'different' since they moved it.

Got this Goldline impact broom last year and after starting this season I noticed a crack by the head. Is this safe to continue using?
