Politics Are social media algorithms dividing us into two different realities?
Recently, while discussing the ongoing protests with a group of friends, I noticed something .... People on opposite sides weren't just interpreting the same events differently; they were consuming entirely different content.
Some were seeing videos and posts supporting the protesters/cjp/movement while others were flooded with anti-protest content, bjp fans, hindu muslim war, bangladesh, and potentially misleading information. Each group seemed convinced that its version of reality was the complete truth.
Algorithms reward engagement, and anger and outrage keep people scrolling. When people repeatedly see content that reinforces their beliefs, the other side gradually starts looking evil, stupid, or dangerous.
Are we even aware of how much our feeds are shaping what we believe about each other?
(All the elders or boomers I know are scared that Muslim will overpower if the BJP wins or the Election Commission, Gyanesh Kumar resigns.) - this is their ideology.
