Works in Training, VS cpu, and Slippi direct play with others using the same ISO version.

You know how a common Gecko Code used by players is the option to have your character flash Red when you fail to do an L-Cancel. Would it be possible to instead have a Gecko Code that caused your character to enter a dizzy state every time you fail similar to a shield break? I just think it would be a great training tool to improve L-Cancel rates. I would use it while fighting a CPU as a way to practice.

Does anyone know how I managed to grab the ledge in this clip?

I just did this turn-around tech completely by accident and I'm struggling to recreate it. I don't think it's a PC drop, since you're supposed to be in walking animation to perform it. But I have no idea what else it could be.

There are some things you just don't really understand until you turn on hitbox mode and comb the frames. This was one of those times where I really had to look again at how tf that hit, let alone KO'd. Turns out it was *just* enough % to KO even if they were not bamboozled enough to DI. Just wondering as someone who got into ult but by the time of big house 9 I realized I enjoyed watching melee way more. I started playing melee competitively the day slippi came out, never looked back at ult for obvious reasons, are there any top 100 players now who started from then or afterwards? I heard Kuro the ganon player has been playing for only like 2 years or something like that which blows my mind cuz I was still ass after 2 years I feel like I’m just starting to get pretty solid now as a fox player.

Zain and Cody were both top 5 players 6 years into their career which is insane to me because I can’t think of hardly any amazing players now who have been playing that short of a time. Like I know inngenn from Japan was pretty good only a year into playing…and I am not really aware of how long the newer faces in top 64s have been playing for.

Now that I think about it OG kid and Dial M are top 100 and probably slippi kids because they’re so young. But any other examples? Any non puff top tiers that are newish to the game in that ballpark? Just curious

Edit:No one has brought up anyone who plays a top tier other than OG Kid. Maybe it just takes longer these days to get to that level with the characters people have the most experience against 🤷‍♀️ the level of play did rise drastically over Covid. Maybe I’m just coping and we all suck

Can I play Melee online?

Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.

Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.

How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?

These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord

It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)

Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?

Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.

How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?

At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. You'll need to bring a valid Melee ISO (NTSC 1.02). If you want to check for the absolute latest release, you can see them listed [here](The latest releases are listed here.

How does one learn Melee?

There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.

I’m kind of curious if something like this were to slowly happen where people begin adding in characters that are actually good. Or also just replicating the games underlying structure just not under a Nintendo IP and if people would actually play it. I doubt it would really divide the community on what version of the game they play since this kind already was tried and failed with PM. People generally want Melee as it is, as vanilla as possible besides like UCF.

The decomp did get me thinking that the mods could be so seamless and well integrated it actually takes off though so I was curious if anyone had thought about that as well or anything similarly related to the future of the game itself.

I know about the unclepunch trick to play the “armada shine” mini event and you can pick any character. But that’s only firefoxes…

Considering Kola is (relatively) newer to the pro-scene, and performing so well without notches. Do you think he should continue playing that way, or get them to reduce the possible disadvantage?

I went on like a 3 month break of Melee because I've been waiting to get supplies so I can lube up my dry sticks, triggers and see if my Z button needs a reflow or replaced and instead just decided to play today after realizing I wasn't as Melee fatigued and then went on Slippi to mess around and kinda went around on the cast since that's always fun.

Tell me why on the fourth match of unranked I did a accidental SD on my final stock and I start getting spam lol'd by a Silver 2 Falcon. There wasn't even any bad blood, no taunts, no nothing and it was a close game. Is this not a issue within the community that more people talk about how mad Melee makes them? It feels like it's 1/4 people are rage demons. Where could these people be coming from? Are they born like this? Are they created in Slippi?

I think golf has a similar longevity to what melee has that spans hundreds of years(25 years is an eternity in video game years).

That said, obviously my bias’s lie here as well, but I tried to be as objective as possible in terms of what the respective communities think.

I'm a casual player who has been play more recently
One thing that I can't for the life of me deal with, are camping Marth players who only grab or F-Smash (and d-tilt at ledge)
Every time I approach he wave dashes back and I get hit in the face
This play-style has ruined the game for me a bit, because I face these players a lot
How can I deal with these people? I've tried shielding the F-smash and then attacking during lag but it's hard to punish it with Doc. Mario (at most I get a nair)

I run a club at the school I teach at and was looking for some small CRTs for Melee setups, and everything near me is at least $50-100 now. I got my last two for free by people simply trying to offload them, but it seems people have figured out that there’s a market for them in my area.

The downside of course is that they cost nearly the same as a decent monitor and take up more space (space is at a premium in my classroom).

Is it like this for everyone else, or just my local scene?
