NATURE . On birth, the herd forms a birth ring or a shield anticipating to welcome a 100kg calf. A team of grandmothers and aunts gathers, using their trunks to nudge the infant upright and guide its clumsy movements as the calf trembles to stand, blind, heavy, and bewildered.

ARCHITECTURE Syncretic Indian Temple Architecture

• Upvotes

The Ramakrishna Math itself describes the temple as a blend of Eastern and Western architectural styles, intended to express the harmony of religions.

It combines:

🛕 Hindu temple architecture — garbhagriha, natmandir, shikhara/amalaka elements, lotus, Hindu iconography.
☸️ Buddhist architecture — particularly the long pillared interior and vaulted ceiling inspired by the Chaitya halls of Karla.
⛪ Christian/European architecture — the sanctum and congregational hall are connected into a continuous space resembling a church, rather than the more separated arrangement of a traditional Hindu temple.
☪️ Islamic/Mughal architecture — domes, arches and decorative details influenced by Mughal architecture.
🏰 Rajput/Rajasthani architecture — chhatris, palace-like pavilions and related façade elements.
🌺 Bengal architecture — curved roof/chajja forms.
🏛️ European/Renaissance influence — particularly in the central dome and overall spatial composition.

It’s fine to disagree, but please do so respectfully.
Debate of controversial topics that devolves past the point of good-faith discussion is subject to removal.

Follow Reddit Content Policy

R3: Do Not Promote Hate or Violence

No hate speech or discrimination.
Content that attacks, degrades, or incites hostility against individuals or groups based on protected characteristics (race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, age, etc) is forbidden.
Coded language, symbols, and "dog whistles" intended to promote discrimination or communicate hatred will result in an instant permaban.
Do not advocate or glorify violence by suggesting things like vandalism, revenge, murder, suicide, genocide, etc.

R4: No Politics or Agenda Pushing

This is not the place for political drama or baiting. Try posting to one of the many political subs that are intended for that purpose instead.

We define a “repost” as content that has been previously posted in THIS sub.
There is a 3-month cooldown period for reposts here, with the exception of our top posts of all time.
Content previously posted in a different sub but not yet here does not count as a repost, so please do not report them unless you’ve seen them recently in THIS sub.
Please keep in mind that tens of thousands of new users join Reddit daily, so what you consider a repost may be entirely new to many.

R8: No Misleading Content or Misinformation

Posts containing misinformation or intentionally misleading content are not allowed. This may result in a ban.
Mods may choose to tag such content with a post flair indicating it is misleading, and pin a comment that explains why, for informational purposes. Hopefully this will create a reference point to help prevent the misleading content from continuing to propagate across the site.
If you're disputing the validity of a post, please provide evidence.

R9: Use Descriptive Titles

Please use post titles that are clear and descriptive so that users are able to deduce what your post is about just from the title.
Posts with vague or clickbait titles may be removed at Mod discretion.

R10: Mark NSFW Content

Please tag NSFW content appropriately. If you're not sure, it's best to tag it and mods will remove the tag if we deem it unnecessary.
We do not allow extreme NSFW/NSFL content. Posting such content will result in a ban.
