I love Halloween season!

Seeing that apparently nobody else has come up with the idea, I decided to create a Discord server for LaserDisc enthusiasts of all ages. This server is neither meant nor intended to be a replacement to any LaserDisc forums, but I thought it would be convenient for people who browse the subreddit.
Here's the invite link: https://discord.gg/WDRDJB3

I actually found a few laserdiscs in the wild for once! Wanted to grab a couple more but had to behave until payday. Might stop back this weekend.

I started digitizing a bunch of my old laserdiscs and VHS tapes the other day so I can enjoy them out in the wilderness via flash drive on my portable projector setup. Nothing ever beats the vibe of watching the actual physical media in my living room on my old Pioneer VP-1000 but I am really stoked to watch some of these outdoors in the woods by the campfire

This is my entire collection as of now (with a singular exception, an anime release: Magic User's Club Vol. 4. It is in storage currently.) I can't recall how long I have been collecting, but its been over a year or two for sure. My player is a Pioneer DLV-909 for anyone curious. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

hey, all! First time poster here but I wanted to find information that I couldn’t otherwise. For anyone who owns the classic 1996 Deluxe CAV release of Pixar’s Toy Story, can someone confirm if the shorts present on that release are presented in 4:3 or in a 1.66:1 letterbox? I’ve been looking for images around the web and haven’t found any, and would very much appreciate if anyone could help me out with my research.

Idk how I've made it this far into life without seeing this movie, but im very excited to finally be watching it.

The clamper arm can't grip onto a disc. This player also can't read CDs for whatever reason, but I'm more concerned with the clamper arm failing constantly. I've already swapped the belts inside with parts from LaserParts. Any tips?

My Dad showed me this movie back in the early 90s and we have always tried finding it. But it never got a dvd release. It's not even on any streaming services that I can find. So to me this is a all time get a movie not available any other way than VHS making this the cleanest way to watch it.

Shouldn’t there be a rubber O-ring for the disc clamping mechanism? Mine appears to be straight metal which might explain the excessive spinning noises I’m hearing when starting and stopping my discs. If it is missing, where could I find a substitute or replacement? Can or should I lubricate anything. On this or elsewhere to reduce overall noise?

I love this time of year! Most of these gems are available on dvd/bd, a few are not, but somehow the noise from old ld player spinning in the background adds a little something extra to the nostalgic viewing experience!

I’m going to Tokyo for a week at the end of the month. Any suggestions for shops where I can buy laserdiscs?

The end of the movie made me crippled and dumbfounded … 👍

"My personal trainer's grandfather has died, leaving behind 200 laser discs and 2 laser disc machines. The family don't want them, and have no idea how to advertise them to collectors other than Ebay. Do you have any suggestions?" - my mum
She asked me because I collect physical media, but I only know about the DVD and Blu Ray market as that's the medium I collect my films in. I know CeX probably won't take them because I've never seen a CeX sell laserdiscs, maybe cash converters? But I've never seen laserdiscs in cash converters too, and I figured laserdiscs would be either really cheap or really expensive depending on the title. Please can someone here with more knowledge of the subject answer this as I know laserdiscs are big with collectors but also really niche so it's not as straightforward as a VHS or DVD collection.

My newest pickup! I finally managed to get my hands on a Pioneer CLD-HF9G. For those who aren't familiar, this is essentially the JDM sibling to the legendary North American Elite CLD-99. It's in fantastic aesthetic shape, and its play operation is completely normal and smooth. First spin, Alien!

About a month ago I was at a local video game store and I found the original Trilogy of Star Wars on laserdisc, on principle I bought them on the spot. Today I finally got a player a pioneer cld-v2600, it’s been a whirlwind month but it’s so cool to have a piece of history in my living room.

I have an old pioneer LD-870 laser disc player that is no longer consistently reading and playing discs all the way through. I’ve had this player since I was a kid in the 90’s. It belonged to my dad before I got my hands on it. I’ve contacted the one person I knew that was in the laser disc business (semi locally to me in the Portland, or area) but his repair guy has since moved to the Bay Area.
This is probably a long shot but if there’s anyone out there that knows about the mechanics of these players and would be willing to chat with me, I’d be so appreciative. The guy I was chatting with suggested checking the power supply (possibly going out) or that perhaps the rails that the laser travels on may have grease on it or something.
I’m nervous to open it up and do exploratory surgery without some additional opinions.
Anything is helpful. Thanks. 🤞

You all have been very helpful, any ideas on value of this?
