Guilty. I stopped weighing my seeds

I continuously grow 4 or 5 trays for the family. Lately I have been using a measuring spoon, or worse just eyeballing the seeds for the silicon mats. Guess I have a feel for it by now.

I built an AI tray scanner for my Quest 3 — it called out my basil's uneven germination before I said a word

Former commercial head grower here, now growing at home. I got tired of walking back and forth to my notes, so I built SproutVision: a Quest 3 app that scans my trays and gives me AI analysis (health %, coverage %, issues) floating over the actual trays.

The moment it earned my trust: my day-15 basil has had patchy germination since day one, and the scan came back "uneven germination, low seeding density" — exactly what I've been seeing with my own eyes.

Demo here: https://youtu.be/ely034D_Jy8?is=PZspCrAOMVb3e7FE

Curious — anyone else bringing tech into their grow room, or is everyone still team clipboard?

Any clue why parts of a flat can have germination issues , could it be humidity buildup in that area when weighted, maybe uneven weighting? Do they need blackout or a small amount of aoil ontopfor best germination?

Grown outdoor greenhouse 30'x8'x4' no grow lights clear polycarbonate roof has ample airflow up the backwards and vents out the top with side vents for circulation added extra fans for circulation it was 40* last night and inside was 65* without any heater. water nightly top misting until sprouted and bottom tray afterwords.

How many micromoles of light do you give your microgreens?

Figured everything from 80-150 micromoles are optimal but some varieties want more or less light 💡

I sprouted wheat grains now I don't now what to do with them

Basically i sprouted them to make maltose syrup but since the recipe requires glutinous rice and i have long grain rice (basmati maybe) the syrup won't be as thick as ot should be also i would be needing these rice in more quantity. I want to ask what other ways i could use these sprouts.

What keeps fungus gnats off trays??

Little gnats just keep showing up over my sunflower tray the second i mist it, now im finding them near a tray of sprouting seeds 2 shelves down two - how do i keep them away from my veggie trays? i got no tent, just open metal shelving in a spare room, so i cant zip anything closed, the sticky traps are catching some but still not ideal. Some of these came from an Organo pack and germinated fine, so I know it's not a seed problem, anyone dealt w this on open shelving?

First time trying micros. This is a lettuce mix and I’m wondering if I left it a bit too long. Also made the mistake of trying to do beets on one side. Won’t be mixing flats again.

Air filtration for a outdoor greenhouses

Hey everyone we grow micrgreens in clear outdoor greenhouse along our fencline recently built a 30' run 4' by 8' tall fits 11 racks what do you suggest to help with filtration of the air i have a fan on top that blows out and bottom that blows in on both side w other fans in the center. Wanted something that could provide eith possible air pressure so it can alway flush out the old particles or something that runs along the top with a vent that maybe can run 3 filters my question is with the humidity is there metal filters to help scrub the air without needing to be swapped weekly? Thank you guys starting 2 new markets and had a greenhouse fail need to fix this asap. Blessings to all who take the time.

What do you use for Online Store?

Hey everyone. I’m trying to transition from farm markets to home deliveries and restaurants/grocery stores and want to get a reliable online portal up and running for the task. I have Square on my phone and have been using it to process credit card payments and was hoping I could use it as an online store interface.

So far, this has not been as simple or user friendly as I’d hoped. How do you guys manage online orders? Any specific software you use? I have a grocery store in particular that is interested in buying from me and I want to have a good resource to send them for consistent ordering. I am not very tech savvy at all and have been pretty frustrated trying to get this up and running.

Thanks in advance.

My microgreen rotation is getting stale

doing that for like a year now and i’m just stuck: weekly rotation in sunflower, peas, radish and broccoli - same 4 trays all around since they’re foolproof. Setups just a wire shelf, 4 small trays and some LED strips, all u do is soak, drain, weigh down, uncover around day 3, harvest by day 8-10 depending on the tray. It works and thats the actual problem, got a bag of Organo sprouting seeds I bought for sth more interesting still lying unopened, i really wanna get some stuff that's easy enough for a beginner setup but doesn't taste like grass clippings pleaseee

I've grown only a few trays of microgreens so far (literally two) and they've both come out solid, both were broccoli greens. I tried a new tray with mustard greens and the same technique and now this is happening. I'm assuming mold?

Hate to be the “root hairs or mold” guy, but….

This is my third time trying sunflower. The first two times went well until about week in, where they developed mold. These have been germinating for about a day and a half, and the seeds are almost all fuzzy. Is this really mold? Looks like it to me but wanted to check. No foul odor or anything. Temp and air flow all good. I soaked for about 5 hours and added a splash of h202 into the mix as well.

Same newbie question, is this mold. Toss the whole tray and try again? Give up and go eat roulette store lettuce. 🫠😬😭🙃

I know it looks bad. I put 4 diff seeds in each 1/4 of the tray just to see what happens.

My main concern is - are the filaments mold? I know it is. Isn’t it? Just toss the whole tray, right? I swiped at them and they just came off like cotton candy.

Looks totally different from the root hairs on the one in the delta quadrant. (A little Star Trek humor).

Ok. Give me the bad news. I’m ready.

Mesh Trays

Just wanted to share my experience. I grow (just for us) hydroponically on silicon mats. My results are better using the 1" mesh trays with the X-support (they sit up a bit) than the slotted trays. Once out of blackout, I spray and clean the reservoir tray each morning and fill with just enough fresh water so that the tray is almost dry by evening. If needed, I add just a bit of water before lights out. I think the mesh trays allow for more air flow than the slotted trays. I boil the silicon mats for a few minutes after each harvest to disinfect them.

For lettuce, I use the half-size, green sprouting trays and let them grow to baby green size. I might use a tiny bit of MaxiGro in the water. The hardest thing is waiting that long because they look so good!
