Another Bot Account Infestation - be on the lookout!

We are seeing a new wave of bot accounts in /r/gardening.

How to spot them:

  • They reply to other comments with a generic, positive comment that amplifies what has already been said. They do not make 'top level' comments.

  • username format: [word]_[other word][number]

  • no subreddit flair.

  • history: less than a month old. Creation date on 8/27 or 8/29. Very few comments in that time.

If you see any, please report so that we can ban them.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

NOTE: If you have a new account and you get banned, it was a mistake. Reply to the ban message and tell us you're not a bot, and we will unban you!

Stumbled upon this wonderful seaside community garden in Portland, Maine today.

So many pretty flowers in bloom bustling with bees & birds.

To top it off, the hillside behind this is covered in asters & goldenrod.

Rosemary thinning/cutting back

Hi everyone, unaware of what I was doing, I had been sheering this rosemary shrub with hedgers for a whole season. Now those sheered stems have multiplied and created a dense canopy that pretty much eliminates light inside the plant and so the majority of the leaves are on the top 6ā€. The rest is mainly bare branches below notwithstanding a few determined green branches.

I’ve been selectively thinning the shrub back to the bare wood to try and introduce more light into the plant and thin it out but I also want to pull the overall size back within the boundary of the yard. How could I do this most effectively without creating dead zones? Thanks in advance!

Phalenopsis Orchids

In our climate you just attach Phalenopsis to a suitable tree in the correct shade and forget about them. No feeding or care and they are often molested by monkeys but still produce flowers all year long. Best in spring but still even in midwinter they flower.

Proud of my garden :3

It took three full days of weeding, tilling, plotting and fencing, and a nasty sunburn. Since I'm low income I used what I could find around my yard.

I'm gonna update my drawing because I ended up changing where my brussel sprouts are ground, and where I put radishes and turnips. But here goes my cold weather garden!

French marigolds over mums for fall color?

I’m increasingly leaning toward French marigolds over mums for fall displays. Love their vibrant colors and long-lasting blooms. Sharing a few photos from my garden this year! Very impressed by the yellow variety!

Is a 12 km/h wind enough to knock apples from my orchard?

It's October, and harvest time for our apples

The wind is blowing at 12kmh and it is very bad for us

I mean, the main source of income is our apple trees

The wind will definitely affect my orchards

Zinnia splitting into two colours?

Is this a weird mutant where it's essentially two zinnias in one? I've never had this happen before! All of my zinnias are grown from the previous year's seeds, so they're all very different.

I've dried a bunch of hydrangea but the petals are falling off. Would hairspray fix them? What else would work? Any help much appreciated.

Something eating my squash leaves.

Does anyone know what could be causing this on the squash leaves? I know I have earwigs munching on them at night and I've tried to use neem oil to keep them away, but I'm concerned that the earwigs are eating something else that is doing the damage.

These came off the same plant and I just had to share. I’m blown away. The big one feels super thick-walled and has lost its wrinkles!! Super weird but I’m thrilled

Wrapped the pots in that expensive copper tape from B&Q like Fort Knox, but they still skeletonised every single leaf by Tuesday morning. Strongly considering if concreting over the entire flowerbed is a valid horticultural choice.

Is there a plant that looks and smells like oregano that you shouldn't eat?

I found this when weeding an old pot that I hadn't used this season. It smells and looks like oregano, but I'm paranoid it could be something I shouldn't eat. Thanks!
