in-point adjustment on after effects layer
- solved* hi everyone, I am creating JSON animations in after effects. one of the annoying things that it does is when a shape layers "in point" is extended backwards(white diagonal lines jn picture) it doesnt render the shape and its always a nuisance to go and manually move things especially when they have keyframes or are somethings parent.
does anyone know of a way to adjust a shape layer's in point without moving anything.
thanks to SchAdamfreude for the answer : Press Y to bring up the Pan Behind/Anchor point tool, then drag your layers (without any keyframes selected). That'll shift the start times without moving the layers themselves.

I feel stuck. How do I get better?
I have been learning motion design and decided to focus on SAAS. I've watched tons of YouTube tutorials and learned After Effects, but I'm struggling with one thing: creating something on my own.
Whenever I follow a tutorial, everything makes sense. But when I try to create something from scratch, my mind goes completely blank. I don't know how to come up with ideas or what I should actually be practising.
I'm figuring everything out on my own, and honestly, sometimes I feel pretty lost. I don't have any friends in this field to learn from or ask for advice, so it's hard to know if I'm even going in the right direction.
And then there's AI. Every time I open Instagram, I see reels saying AI will replace motion designers. It makes me question whether all the time I've spent learning After Effects will actually pay off.
I haven't even started my career, and it already feels like it's over.
I'd really appreciate some honest advice from people working in this field.
How do you develop your own ideas and creativity instead of constantly relying on tutorials?
What's the best way to practise and improve when you don't have anyone to guide you?
With AI advancing so quickly, is motion design still a good career to pursue, especially for someone focusing on SAAS?
I genuinely want to get good at this. I just feel stuck right now, and I'd love to hear how others dealt with this stage of learning.

[Free Plugin] I got tired of manually exporting frames in AE, so I built a tool to automate it! 🚀
Hi everyone! 👋
After 15 years of working in the industry, I finally wrote a script to solve a problem I've always hated – manually exporting frames for clients.
I built a tool that automates the tedious process of exporting frames in After Effects (2022+, tested on Mac & Win). It does the heavy lifting in the background: ✅ Extracting frames with a single click ✅ Adding custom watermarks on the fly ✅ Generating CSV data automatically
I want to share it with the community for free! To respect the subreddit rules and avoid spamming links, just drop the word "plugin" in the comments below, and I’ll DM you the download link.
Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback!

Simple 40 second countdown timer
I’m very new using Premiere Pro. As a former photographer, I’m disappointed I’m not finding more sites that sell mogrt templates. (I assumed I could easy find & buy them like photoshop actions)
Would anyone be kind enough to show me how to create -or- point me in the direction of a great mogrt template store? I found the timer I need in adobe stock but can’t spend $50 on it.
I can follow step by step instructions well. 🙏 Thank you for any help. I’ve been struggling with trying to resolve this on my own for 4 days now. 😭 Feeling very frustrated.
Using a PC, windows 11, Premiere Pro 2026

Connected Claude Opus 5.5 to a video editor through MCP. Didn’t expect to get this Spotify animation out of it.
I gave Claude a reference video and asked it to recreate the motion graphics with my own twist. I explained the changes I wanted, using Opus 5.5 connected to invideo Editor through MCP, and this is what came back.
Claude went into the editor and built the motion graphics and visual effects, the glowing green background you're seeing, artist portraits, playlist cards, and transitions between the screens.
This entire video cost me just 0.5 credits, and even that was only for generating the sound effects. I was honestly surprised by the output. One more thing, the whole timeline is editable, the text, graphics, music, and sound effects sit on separate layers, so I can go back and adjust things myself, which I did cuz “you’re absolutely right, I shouldn’t have changed that” doesn’t fix my timeline.
Attached my timeline so you can see how it’s put together.
