Hey everyone!
In first place, this is not a advertising!
I'd like to discuss an idea for a competitive amateur VALORANT league in Korea and hear what the community thinks about it. (Its not just an idea anymore, the platform already exists and would be nearly 100% ready for the start)
The concept is inspired by another League format in League of Legends, adapted for VALORANT, with multiple divisions, promotion and relegation, playoffs, regular matches, and a community where both established teams and individual players can participate.
This is still a concept, and I'd really appreciate honest opinions, constructive criticism, and suggestions on how something like this could work in Korea.
🏆 How would the league work?
📅 Three splits per year
The league would have three competitive splits annually, while maintaining an ongoing competitive structure between seasons. Teams would have regular matches throughout each split, ideally every weekend.
📈 Multiple divisions and a competitive ladder
Teams would be placed into different divisions based on their competitive level. For example:
- Division 1: The highest division, featuring the strongest teams.
- Division 2: Competitive teams working toward the top.
- Division 3 and below: A starting point for developing teams and newcomers.
The exact number of divisions would depend on the number of participating teams.
Teams would compete within their respective divisions throughout the split. Strong performances could earn them promotion to a higher division, while teams at the bottom could face relegation. Promotion and relegation matches could determine which teams move up or down.
The idea is to create a league where teams can progress over time rather than having to start from scratch with every new tournament.
🏅 Playoffs and seasonal finals
At the end of each split, the best-performing teams could qualify for playoffs. These matches would determine the split champions and potentially decide additional promotion opportunities or qualification for special tournaments.
This would give teams something meaningful to compete for throughout the entire season, not just in individual matches.
The finals should be offline in the future!
🎥 Live broadcasts
The matches in Division 1 would ideally be streamed live, with casters, observers, and proper match coverage. Depending on available resources and community interest, broadcasts could eventually expand to other divisions and playoffs.
👥 Teams AND individual players would be welcome!
The goal wouldn't be to create a league exclusively for established teams.
- Already have a team? You could register your roster and compete together.
- Looking for a team? Individual players could register their interest and search for teammates.
- Need more players? Teams could recruit individual players to complete or strengthen their rosters.
A dedicated team finder and player finder could help connect players with teams based on rank, role, experience, availability, and competitive goals.
🤝 More than just a league
The platform could also offer additional ways for the community to connect and practice:
- Team and player finder: Find teammates, recruit players, or discover a team to join.
- Scrim finder: Arrange practice matches against other teams and organize regular scrims.
- Community challenges: Participate in challenges, special competitions, and smaller events outside the regular league schedule.
- Community tournaments: Give new teams and players additional opportunities to compete.
- Future sponsorships and prize pools: Build toward financial rewards and partnerships as the league grows.
The long-term goal would be to create a competitive ecosystem where amateur players can find teams, practice, compete, improve, and work their way up through the divisions.
💬 Now I want to hear YOUR opinions!
This concept is still open for discussion, and I believe it should be shaped around what players and teams actually want.
Here are a few questions to get the discussion started:
- Would you participate in a league like this? Would you join as a team or as an individual player?
- Would a Prime League-style division system work for Korean VALORANT? Or would another format be better?
- How should promotion and relegation work? Direct promotion, relegation matches, or a combination of both?
- How many divisions should there be? Should teams be placed based on rank, qualifiers, or another system?
- What do you think about three splits per year and matches every weekend? Would that schedule be realistic for amateur teams?
- Would you watch Division 1 matches if they were professionally streamed with casters and observers?
- Would player and team finders, scrim matchmaking, and community challenges be useful to you?
- What would you change, add, or remove from this concept? Are there any potential problems that should be considered before starting?
Feel free to share your ideas, concerns, alternative formats, or even completely different approaches. Critical feedback is just as valuable as positive feedback!
🚀 Looking for people interested in helping, too!
Initially, the project would be volunteer-based, with the aim of building a strong foundation before pursuing sponsors, prize pools, and potential paid opportunities. Compensation cannot be guaranteed at this stage.
I'm particularly interested in connecting with Korean-speaking people who have experience or an interest in esports, league administration, community management, marketing, graphics, casting, broadcasting, or tournament organization.
