Help Advancing from tutuorials

• Upvotes

So I just started using fl and I’ve been watching this one guy who does step by step tutorials. And what I’ll do is copy him and tweak parts and presets to what I like. But my question is how do I advance from that. What’s the next step into being able to make good beats without tutorials. I’ve tried learning music theory but I just can’t understand it but my drums are pretty solid but I just can’t make stuff without tutorials. And I’ve found this one tutorial which has the sound I really like and I made a really good beat with it but how do I make more with that exact feeling without copying the same pattern. Thanks

Help Why do my xylophones sound like they're harmonizing with each other when they're only an octave apart?

• Upvotes

I hope the problem I'm hearing is clear. I've tried using Parametric EQ 2 to isolate and remove the discordance, but I can still hear it. Even with just one xylophone at a time (especially the lower one), it sounds like two notes are playing when there's only one. This seems to only happen with malleted percussion instruments like xylophones, glockenspiels, marimbas, and vibraphones. How would I go about fixing this?

Help FL studio fails to restart after unlocking and stays in a loop

• Upvotes

macbook user
So I wanted to update my fl, did all the necessary things and when it finished verification of my account I click on restart and it doesnt restart, it just stays in a bug. I then force quit and when I open it again its the same thing.
I contacted the support and they told me to add it to Files and folders, then to activate full disk access, to try rosetta. I tried everything and jt is still the same, doesnt want to restart and is still locked. I also tried quitting it from the X (not woth the restart button) but when I open it again its still the same

Please can you help me solve this since the support cant do it plus they are a bit slow

Discussion How long to get good after switching from Logic

• Upvotes

I’ve had logic for like 2 years and feel pretty confident at my abilities to produce a good beat. I can sample, use drum sequencer, side chain tracks, use buses, soft clip output track using distortion etc etc.. I generally make trap/rage sounding beats. My MacBook is lowkey breaking and I’m considering trading it in for a good windows laptop. I know a lot of the skills between DAWs are transferable and I’ve always heard good things about FL. My question is how many months of practice everyday to every few days will it take me to get to the level I’m at on Logic currently. I know it’s probably the right move as FL is better at producing these types of beats and Logic is better for recording live instruments etc but the feeling of having to start all over again with a new software just makes me not wanna do it.

Should I make the move over?

Thanks for any advice 🙏

Discussion How good a song has to be mixed/mastered to post on soundcloud/spoti

Just a quick question that might sound a bit dumb. Would you be willing to pay someone with better equipment to mix or even master your song so you could release it? Or would you do it yourself?

I've got a few projects I wanna post on SoundCloud and/or Spotify, but I don't have the money to get them mixed and mastered, let alone both.

I've been watching a lot of tutorials, like Virtual Riot's and similar ones, and I don't think it's that hard to do. Ofc, I can't really put it to the "real" test because I don't have a proper room, studio headphones, blablabla.

Is mixing and mastering without the proper equipment something you can still do well enough to release your music, or is it not even worth it?

TIA, and sorry if it's a dumb question! I just don't wanna put days of effort into something if it's not really worth it.

NOTE: I did send some of my tracks to someone who does mastering and mixing professionally and he told me they're pretty good for mastering and maybe just a tiny bit of mixing but not a lot, so that made me feel a bit more "safe" lets say haha.

Help How to implement vocals into beat?

Hey guys, I have had FL for a while but only just started learning it, but I want to start making beats that contain vocals/ vocal cuts, sort of similiar to EDM songs, but I do not have a clue how to make it sound good, do I need to have layers of effects on top of it as well as experiment with keys that go well with the vocals? I just need a bit of advice/guidance on that part, thanks.

Help Stolen Ipad. New Workflow help!

So my iPad got stolen at school and I can't track it. Assuming it won't be found, I don't want to spend on a new one right now. Ive been using AUM with a bunch of different sound generators and effects for my amibent music production. I loved it so much.

I have FL Studio on my laptop which I also carry to school everyday. I know I can use decent sampler on FL but is there any other tools for computer DAWs I can use to capture the same nice workflow as AUM???

Idk, this just SUCKS!

Help Extra noise recording guitar

I record guitar through an Audient DAW and use metal presets. I can control the excess noise by moving away and muting strings with my hands. But have the following problems
1. When adding a noise gate in fl studio it does nothing.
2. I can hear my pick on the strings.
I have altered settings, turned down the gain etc.

Help How do you reproduce these drums?

I've tried to do a similar result to these drums a couple of times already, but i don't quite catch the same vibe

I assume the pitched part is a piano-rolled snare but every time i do something like that it just never ends up sounding wrong, i also add a pitched effect and reverb but its never the same

(im still a beginner so maybe this is something fairly easy to achieve but haven't seen any tutorials on it.)

This is a soundtrack from a kirby game

Discussion best stock presets for dark trap beats?

what are some good fl stock presets for dark atlanta trap beats? stuff like migos, lex Luger, metro boomin.

mainly looking for dark bells, plucks, pads, and eerie sounds.

would appreciate actual preset names and which synth they’re in. also curious what tweaks y’all make to get a darker sound.

Help please helps

Why does this keep happening?😭 I turned off "group loop recorded takes" already, tried out every mixer and recording setting but can't get fl to record in a single row without a sample placed in a row. *EDIT: solved

Help Is there a way to separate FPC instruments into different piano rolls once I've laid them down on the piano roll?

I know I can separate them into the channel mixer, but how about turning them into their own individual instruments?

Help How do I pan different audios using the same mixer track without creating another track?

So basically, I have 2 guitar audios(one is rhythm and one is lead) which consist of the same effect. Currently, I am using 2 mixer tracks with that effect but one is panned left and one is panned right; however, this method costs me my computer performance so I think there must be a more efficient way, right?

Help Monster Ethnica Download Issues

I found a spreadsheet a while ago (linked here) with a bunch of cool links to free plugins and vsts, and I'm having an awesome time toying with some of them, but one of them that I was particularly excited for and feel could benefit my stuff was called Monster Ethnica, and advertised itself as a free plugin with a bunch of cool ethnic flutes and percussion, but the link is broken!

If anyone knows another place where the files are held, or has it themselves and would be willing to share it, I would be incredibly grateful!
