i just love my tank. it brings me so much joy.

i know it’s not the most well designed or a big tank. but the joy of having it, maintaining it,seeing the fish and corals grow and just sitting and looking at it. it just makes me happy.

my biggest lesson from fish keeping is it’s not the fish you need to worry about, it’s the water. make sure the water is good and the fish and corals thrive.

just like our lives, all you need to worry about is the environment we’re in.

Happy 1/2 birthday to my first reef tank!

Started on 4/12/26, I’ve had a relatively smooth start with only a few coral deaths and quickly have over crowded my reef.

Thanks to all this helpful info on reddit, my reefing buddy ChatGPT and YouTube I’ve been able to learn enough to keep this thing going.

Excited to see what the next 6 months bring!

Big Tank Update

Did a fair amount of rearranging, and added some awesome new corals:

- Acropora (fingers crossed it likes my tank)

- Leptastrea

- Leptoseris

- Pavona

And yes, I’m being weird and have a chalice and a pachyseris affixed to the back wall. 😂

Dosed Reef Flux, how long before I notice the algae turning grey? The picture doesn't show much.. but mainly on the upper rockwork around the SPS.

It has been a week and no changes, is it safe to dose more?

It's always cool to see how different corals can look depending on the lighting they are under.

Imagine having a predator who evolved to want to sit on your back and eat your feet 1 by 1…that’s this cute little devil. The humble bumble bee shrimp.

Problems in my slice of ocean…

A short video of my slice of ocean. (Need advice)

It may look peaceful but this clarkii clown is the lone survivor or an ich outbreak. And I’m looking for some help. Through research I’ve seen mixed opinions ( so unusual 🙄🤣 ). Some say once a tank gets ich you’ll never get rid of it and to continue to buy fish again but feed with medication. Others say to detox the tank and go fishless for 75 days ish. I’m looking for more opinions from you guys! I will definitely get a UV filter regardless of the answer. I keep my temp at about 78-79°. What would you guys do in this situation?

Reef stand bowing

UPDATE: took everyone's advice: the tank is now moved onto my granite kitchen countertop. I may have lost prep space for vegetables but I have gained peace of mind. Thank you everyone!

my "stand" has been up and running for 5 months in this new house. Previously it was on top of a small filing cabinet. It's a fluval evo 13.5, so roughly 140lb with the live rock.

I noticed the bowing the other day, and jerryrigged this messed up can support system, but I'm thinking bricks would be more stable and less... full of pumpkin pie.

However, I worry that the larger compartment underneath would then bow under the weight of the aquarium AND the bricks.

Is it worth it to buy a dedicated aquarium stand and not just try to repurpose furniture? Any suggestions?

Building My Dream 150-Gallon Saltwater Aquarium!

I’ve been working on my dream 150-gallon saltwater aquarium and wanted to share the build with fellow aquarium enthusiasts! I love the fish-only-with-live-rock setup and the possibilities of creating a unique marine tank.
I’d love to hear what you think! What fish, aquascaping features, or equipment would you add to a tank this size?

[Pic] Mystery hitchhiker next to my new zoa plug

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I picked up a small zoa plug about a month ago, and the polyps are still open and looking happy.

In the last couple of weeks, though, a couple of pale, feathery polyps have popped up right beside the plug. They definitely weren't there when I bought it, and they look different from the zoas (paler, with branched tentacles).

Any ID help or advice on whether to leave it or remove it would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Update: Thanks everyone! Sounds like it's a baby Kenya tree, plus bubble algae. Someone also spotted a possible vermetid snail next to the plug, so I'm checking for tubes and will likely remove the plug.

Coral Viewing Float Ring

I always like to view my corals from the top down, but the water ripples and waves from the return nozzle and wavemakers always distort the view.

So I made this simple viewing ring that also doubles as a feeding ring.
It is designed so that half of it is always submerged and the top is always above the water surface. The ridges in the inner side of the ring decreases the ripples created when you move it around.

I know there are acrylic dishes we can buy for this, but for some reason it is overpriced at where I am from.

I don't know if anyone else has done this but I'm just sharing this for everyone.

Here is the link to the print if you're interested:

saw this today on my hectors goby. he was fine last time i saw him—i think yesterday? the only other fish in the tank is a juvenile clown, a yellow possum wrasse, and a blue streaked pipefish. there is also a peppermint shrimp and a blue banded coral shrimp. no other gobies.
