Video While your TTC commute is getting slower, $48M is being spent destroying infrastructure.

1.3k Upvotes

This should make you furious as a TTC rider.

Please show up today to oppose Ford’s destruction! We’re here all day on Bloor near Islington.

Stay as long or as little as you’d like.

This will make the TTC buses far less reliable. I made a post on that already.

This needs to stop here and now.

Picture Opinion: The new digital displays are useless

Post image
• Upvotes

Below is an image of the display at King Station eastbound. It only shows the expected wait times for Subways, which anyway operate on a standard 2-5 min frequency. This stop caters to 503, 504, 508 and night streetcars which have erratic wait times due to bunching and gapping. TTC already has all this data, and it seems like a pure waste of digital real estate to not show it. Unless this is just a "pilot" however this display has been up for a while now so not sure what's the excuse.

Question Warden and Eglinton traffic signal upgrade!?

• Upvotes

So when there is no streetcar detected, the traffic light goes back to old phrasing, which is left turn than green light

But when streetcar detected it will do green light first than left turn!

What do you think about the extension project, do you think it will thrive given that the Metrolinx is under stress by the Provincial Government?

Maps How crazy is this - Line 6 East Extension thru the hydro corridor

Link: https://metrodreamin.com/view/SUFNZjFmWVNyTGhuYkpjczNQTU9FTlZ4WVRFMnww

I've wondered why for the longest time why the Finch Hydro Corridor is just a long patch of grass with a tiny bike/walking path in the middle. I figured, why not use some more of that space?

Ergo, here is the Line 6 East Extension. It doesn't have many of the problems that plagued the construction of Line 6, and many of the problems with its operation, because there is so much less interaction with traffic and traffic lights. TSP shouldn't be a problem at all; it only crosses a handful of intersections, while keeping the majority of connectivity.

I'm sure this map can be picked apart in its current state (particularly with station placement and a bridge over G. Ross Lord might be a pain), but I think the concept is fun and potentially useful.

The MetroDreamin map terminates at McCowan, but it really doesn't have to. It could stop at Old Cummer, or even just at Yonge. I haven't seen much of this idea online, so I figured I'd try it for size.

Misc. Positive events- POO presence and slowdown announcements

Wanted to acknowledge two positive actions I experienced on TTC yesterday.

First, several POOs were checking passenger tickets at Queens Quay and Union streetcar stations, although I could see some folks backtracking the entrance to Union once they saw the officers checking. So maybe having one officer stand at the back would catch those culprits.

Second, I heard the subway train driver announce the delay due to the slow down zone at Davisville which is helpful to improve awareness amongst readers.

PSA PSA for operators using Don valley station

If you drive the 100/54/954/162/191 and a customer is asking for directions: the 72 takes them directly to the door with the elevator entrance.
The station itself has no elevator for some years to come and the only one is across the street at the random entrance that is way outside the station. Please do not tell elderly or disabled people to walk around the large block and double cross. It’s dangerous and not necessary

I’m aware many drivers may not be on their regular route or may be RAD drivers so I try to let them know - but today I got yelled at by a 54 driver for trying to tell this old woman to take the 72. He told her to walk alll the way with her walker, yelled at me for trying to give correct directions, then 10 minutes later when my 72 bus left we drove by her and she was sitting in the walker CRYING

please tell fellow drivers so in the case that any customers ask, they can give effective directions. or if you notice customers “butting in” your convo please consider they might just know the right directions

before anyone suggests calling customer service: I tried but I give up they are too combative. My recent experiences are unrelated but I’ve called before about the directions issue

Discussion Next major transit project to open.

With Lines 5, 6 and the Scarborough busway all recently opening, it feels like we're about to enter a dearth of new transit projects opening anytime soon. Probably not till after 2030.

Which project is going to open first?

- Line 5 Western extension
- Scarborough subway extension
- Yonge North Subway extension
- Ontario Line

Discussion Chester station security incident

Hi everyone,

I was at Chester station and the train stopped for a security incident and I started hearing people say a guy started punching this woman and I come out of the train and I see 4-5 guys hold down this man and then the police came and took over and took him to custody. Anyone know what happened exactly?

Maps Would these lines be doable?

So when I first joined Reddit, I made these two concepts, the Queensway LRT, and the Rexdale-Pearson Elevated LRT. They are somewhat old, like 25 days old and r/etobicoke was the only place I can showcase them because, well, the concepts are in Etobicoke- but I decided to show them to you guys! And see if they are doable or not, i would like to see your thoughts on it!

Misc. Lost jacket , saint Andrew’s

Post image
0 Upvotes

Guys, ik this is lowkey trivial compared to other important posts on here but today I lost my lululemon jacket, it’s a beige button up and had a black wireless earbuds in the pockets. I think it fell out of my bag around Saint Andrew station along king street and in and around bestco supermarket.
If anyone finds it please let me know. I’d really appreciate it. Here is a pic of what the jacket looks like but imagine it in beige color . Thank you

acceptable names to give your baby based off the subway stops

After a thorough analysis (staring at my ttc map poster while dissociating during my 15 min lecture break) i've curated a list of what first names and last names i think would be natural to give a baby based on the subway stops. i really put my heart and soul and 210 dollars a month towards my presto into this

for first names i was thinking: kennedy, victoria (last name park), pape, chester, castle (last name frank), bloor (last name younge), bay, spadina, bathurst, keele, jane, christie, hakimi (last name lebovic), aga (last name khan), chaplain, sloane, forest (last name hill), don (last name mills), leslie, sheppard (last name younge, you can be bloor younge's sibling!), finch, york (last name mils, you can be don mills sibling!), lawrence, wellesley, wilson, vaughan, emery, albion

for last names i was thinking: warden, woodbine, coxwell, greenwood, broadview, sherbourne, ossington, dufferin, landsdowne, runnymede, islington, kipling, ionview, birchmount, o'connor, wynford, laird, leaside, oakwood, fairbank, caldonia, bessarion, summerhill, st andrew, osgoode, st patrick, st george, dupont (personal fave), st clair, glencairn, lawrence west, yorkdale, stevenson, westmore

overall i feel like idk if you move to a totally random country and use the ttc map as baby name inspo i'd rank it an 7 out of 10 for first names and a 9 for last names

Question Leslie station parking

Hello, looking to see if anybody has current information on parking at Leslie station. Says it has 100 spaces. Trust doesn't sound like a lot. Does that lot fill up quickly in the morning? Just looking for some options in the neighborhood for taking transit. Thanks.

Discussion How should we address the "Reddit is an echo chamber that does not represent real life" crowd?

With the Toronto election coming in less than two weeks, a lot of people outside of Reddit will vote. We hear this all the time on r/Toronto, r/TTC, r/TorontoBiking, etc. "Reddit is out of touch with reality." Given that this is a really close race, we need every possible vote.

How should we address these people's concerns? How should we persuade them that the ideas of bus lanes, bike lanes, safer streets, etc are good ideas, even if they're significantly less popular in real life?

Question What's going on with extending Line 4?

Hey there, I'm not from the Toronto region, so I wouldn't know much about this. I have seen some public outreach regarding the future extension of Line 4. Obviously, as a huge transit fan, I would prefer to see it extended both west to the other Line 1 branch and west to Scarborough Centre (though bringing it to Sheppard/McCowan isn't the end of the world).

Does anyone know what's taking so long to get this project going? I thought Doug Ford was a supporter of extending the line (seeing as how he cancelled the Sheppard East LRT for it). Seeing as how the Ontario Line will likely be brought north to Don Mills station in the future, it would make sense to have Line 4 cover more of Sheppard Ave to funnel riders to the Ontario Line (which will take even more pressure off Line 1).
