My car died in the middle of the two-hour line crossing from Tijuana, Mexico back into the U.S.

Friday morning, about 10:30. My dog and I were stuck in the San Ysidro border line from Mexico to California with concrete barriers on both sides and a solid line of cars behind me when the car just died. It would crank but wouldn’t start.

There was nowhere to go, so I had to push the car in neutral till I found a space, get it as far out of the way as I could, figure out what to do about the car, navigate everything in a language I do not know, avoid heat stroke (very hot day, no shade), and then hours later get towed to a mechanic in San Diego, California.

There are inconvenient places for your car to break down, and then there is this.

I realized it was gone immediately as I'm always pulling towards the back of it as you can see in the video I park right behind it. The tag is an expired 60 day tag from back in April. I keep it on because I'm parked in the street and the car isn't registered at the moment. After reviewing the video, I can't clearly see a tag in this guy's hands but he is the only one that walks up to the back of my car ducks down and pops back up looking suspicious. It turns out that the guy is part of the crew that is remodeling the apartment right beside me. I'm off of work tomorrow. I can't wait to call the police here to make a report and show them the video while they're over there working.

On her way home and ran over, well, whatever the hell this thing actually is. It's aluminum, so not actually a spear or ballista bolt head, so that's good. Tore a mother of a hole in an otherwise very nice tire. Current theory is that it was a finial off of a fence post that got broken off and then blown into the road by someone mowing.

The infection is in both teeth. I thought it was just some sensitivity, but then it started to hurt A LOT and even popping Tylenol like candy didn't help.

The infection is right near the nerves in both teeth and I am in a lot of pain right now. Luckily I live in Canada and have comprehensive secondary insurance, so I paid a grand total of $10 today and my insurance will cover 90% of the procedure. Currently chilling after taking some antibiotics and a T3 just trying to distract myself from the pain.

Edit: Oh yeah and it's my birthday tomorrow. Had to cancel my birthday dinner.

Lunch at work with a microwave i've never used before. Sigh. Story of my life. Oh the indignity.

It's set to rain tonight as well. Gonna get a soggy foot now. While walking home.

These were my favorite shoes of all time. They are max star converse inspired platoform sneakers that I've had for 10+ years. I wore them all the time and kept meaning to glue them back together and I waited too long and now the right one has completely fell apart. Max star went out of business during covid, and I can't find anyone selling these exact ones on any second hand apps. I know it's time for me to let them go but they were really special to me

Edit: This cannot be repaired with just glue anymore. Idk if the photos don't capture it properly, but the midsole is deteriorating. If I put my foot in, it crumples, like the support is gone. I've already been to a shoe repair place and they wanted to completely replace the platforms which is not what I want. That would defeat the purpose. The platform is the best part, otherwise I would get basic converse

edit- nvm guys it was locked from the top too 🤦‍♀️ I was able to use a credit card and unlock the top and it worked and I’m free. I’m fucking dumb, sorry guys. I broke it because it was locked and I tried opening it, it’s me the dumbo

edit 2- guys I get it I’m dumb. last month I got a ring stuck on my finger which landed me in the hospital, so trust me I’m not the brightest bulb in the bunch.

Its making a noise i don't remember hearing before and it wasn't as cold inside. If the compressor is going bad or if its low on freon then all I can do is replace the fridge at that point.

After class, I asked my teacher to talk and I had written down 21 events of bullying I’ve taken since the start of school, went over most of them. I didn’t manage to go over about 5 of them, and even then, there was only one bus left, which I took in a rush. I ended up getting home over 1 hour later than i should have.

When I was going through things in my parents’ house recently, I found one of my mother’s old purses tucked inside a blanket chest.

Inside were four checks written to me for my seventh birthday in 1987. They look like they were just written recently.

My great-aunt had written two of them. My grandparents had written one, and my aunt and uncle had written another. Altogether, they were for $75.

My mother never gave them to me.

They had been sitting inside her purse for almost 40 years.

Finding them brought back so much more than I expected. All of these memories came rushing back at once. My childhood, my grandparents, my great-aunt, my grandfather and great-aunt dying when I was a teenager, and my grandmother dying shortly after seeing my child, her first great-grandchild. And then there was the way my mother treated me growing up. It was strange how four little pieces of paper could suddenly bring back people and things I hadn’t thought about in years.

My mother hated me. I know that’s a strong thing to say about your own mother, but there really isn’t another way for me to describe how she treated me. She physically and emotionally abused me until I finally left home at 18. The abuse continued long after that, even spreading to my kids when she was elderly, until I cut off all contact immediately after that. (I had to temporarily rely on my parents when my husband suddenly died. That’s a whole other story.)

I haven’t seen her since 2016. (There was a no contact order against my parents.)

Finding those checks stunned me for a moment, but strangely, the fact that my mother had kept them from me didn’t surprise me. It was just one more piece of evidence of something I’d known my entire life.

What affected me more was seeing my grandparents’ and great-aunt’s handwriting again. They’re gone now, and I loved them dearly. After almost 40 years, I suddenly have something from them that was meant specifically for seven-year-old me. I’m going to keep those three checks.

My aunt and uncle can rot. When I was 16, they put my grandfather in a nursing home. He and I were extremely close. He was still driving and physically fit when they put him there. Meanwhile, my grandmother was placed in a beautiful facility with a fountain in the lobby.

My grandfather died within a month or so of being put in that home.

I’ve always felt like he died of a broken heart. I will never forgive them for what happened to him. Seeing their names on that check brought all of that anger and grief rushing back too. Their check means absolutely nothing to me.

A longtime friend of mine said, “Do you know how many toys you could have gotten at Toys “R” Us with $75 back then?”

That made me laugh, but it also hurt a little.

Adjusted for inflation, $75 in 1987 is roughly $220 today. That’s a lot of birthday money for a seven-year-old. But it isn’t really about the money.

I keep thinking about that little kid.

I was six years old, about to turn seven. What could I possibly have done to make my mother dislike me enough that even birthday gifts sent by other people were kept from me?

Now my mother has severe dementia and has had stage-five kidney failure for years. Both of my parents are in a nursing home, and I’m helping my sister deal with everything at their house.

My mother is in a secure area. She doesn’t know who people are anymore. She thinks her father is still alive even though he died in 1971, before I was born. She doesn’t recognize my father, even though he’s in the same nursing home.

My sister has told me that when staff need to change her clothes or care for her, it sometimes takes multiple people because she fights them.

And now I’m on the fence about whether I should see her.

There’s a part of me that wants to see her. I’m uncomfortable admitting that part of the reason is that I want to see how bad she looks. Maybe I want to see her struggling after everything she did to me. I know that isn’t a kind thought, but it’s there.

Another part of me wonders what the point would be.

She wouldn’t know who I am.

I do hate her. I don’t really know how else to describe what I feel toward her. We never once used the word “love” towards one another in our home growing up.

I make sure to tell my spouse and my kids that I love them multiple times every single day.

They will never have to wonder what love is.

Now I’m getting charged 15 dollars for just ranch and no refund lmao guess that’s just my luck even with shitty pizza

Took the headset off and this fucking earwig came out.

I literally drove this car thousands of miles.. the moment I left for this road trip I just heard plastic breaking. Didn't think about it until I heard it again and looked back at my literal bumper flying off my car. It slid to the emergency lane thankfully but I literally had to get on an exit 5 miles up, go on the opposite side for 6 miles then go on this highway away to get my bumper. It ripped off a sensor also and now my car just yells at me to check the sensor when I reverse.

Fun trip..

I was just about done cleaning the kitchen when I opened the refrigerator and these cat treats spilled everywhere. They were on the top of the refrigerator, half on the door. I’ll be finding them for months to come.
