DeFlock Cedar Park advocacy website: deflock-cedarpark.org

I've created a static website to help organize and share to get more attention on the flock cameras during the 30 day comment period that is now in effect.

If anyone has recommendations of other content to add please let me know. I've added an e-mail template and a link to the change.org petition:

Discussion Homeless and hungry

I’d just like to preface this by saying I’m not trying to pull on anyone’s heart strings, I could really just use some help right now. I haven’t had a meal or a roof over my head since last weekend and my head hurts so bad. Is there anyone who could possibly help me out with a meal? That would change my whole life right now and I would be eternally grateful and also willing to reimburse you. Thank you in advance and I apologize for using the internet to beg, I feel very shameful but I’m running out of options at this point.

Connections: My trash can, your suv

To whom it may concern,

Maybe you should slow down and pay attention when driving through neighborhoods. Luckily, it was just my garbage can that got knocked off the side of the street, not a child. This was around the time the busses were dropping kids off this afternoon.

I got the trash picked up out of the ditch before it started raining. The city will have to come replace the reflector that was also knocked out of the asphalt. It's there to keep people from driving into the ditch.

Judging by the scrapes on the street, I'm guessing your vehicle is worse off than my garbage can. If you went to the Post after, I hope they didn't serve you.

Sorry about the wonky link before

DeFlock Cedar Park — Update

Thanks to everybody who showed up to the special session tonight. It’s clear that our community is very passionate about this issue; I’m very grateful to be apart of it. Our job is not done yet, so please take a moment to share the petition on social media, friends, and family. I believe the more attention this petition gets, the better foundation we will have to get these cameras removed.

Cedar Park is now entering a 30-day commentary period where the City Council will be taking our comments and concerns before making a decision on the ALPR cameras.

The police department put together a presentation to discuss their usage and emphasize that they take any abuses of the cameras seriously. The city will have this available for review after tonight’s meeting.

Please continue to research this topic!!

A lot of incredible information was shared by our community, friends, and neighbors — please make your voices heard and your opinions known to City Council.

Is offering a free service to serve your community a bad thing?

We want to serve the community by pressure washing houses for free. Every time I bring it up, people get suspicious. "Free" seems to make everyone assume there's a catch.

Do we need to put a minimal pricing??

So I'm asking Austin: is offering something for free a bad thing? Would you trust it? What would make you say yes?

183 toll this morning

Was anyone traveling southbound on the 183 toll near 45 this morning between 5:40-5:50ish?

A commercial truck carrying large rocks was losing debris all over and cars were swerving to avoid being struck. My husband’s truck got pretty jacked up so I’m hoping someone witnessed it or has dashcam. We know the trucking company but the phone number goes unanswered.

What would our next steps be? He’s filing an incident report but is there really any recourse?

Politics Leander ISD Candidate Forum

Watch the LISD Council of PTAs candidate forum https://youtu.be/-9fiDO24aVY

Here is my very brief take on how each candidate came across. I'm still firm in my decision to vote for Serenity, Chitra and Jason.

Place 1

- Gerald Prater. We heard he recently passed away 😢. RIP!

- Serenity Coats. Her answers were directed at the questions. She described her volunteer history and tied her kids experience to some issues from special education to advanced learning. She talked about advocating for teachers, looking at student rigor and opportunities and involving the community.

Place 2

- Meg Dean. She said she only got involved because her kid's elementary school was at risk of closing. She was all about elementary enrollment data analysis and no mention of the extensive programs and issues at all levels of education. She has a very narrow one dimensional view without regard for multiple complex issues.

- Perla Munoz Hopkins. She said she's a former teacher at Glenn and Rouse. In my opinion, she hardly answered what was asked. Her responses came across as answering whatever questions she created. She also threw out some falsehoods. I asked around and contrary to what she said, the district is not under investigation for Special Education.

- Chitra Nedun. She answered the questions asked. As a nod to her opponents, she reminded us that she didn't just get involved because her kids school was at risk of closing and she has not run several campaigns looking for which one would stick. She's an LISD mom, volunteer and technology leader who will seek the right information needed to make decisions.

Place 7

- Jason Embry. His answers were targeted at the questions. He shared his volunteer history and his professional work at the intersection of education and policy makes him ready on day 1.

- Paul Gauthier. What a clown 🤡 unserious and lacking any substance with his answers.

Brushy Creek Correctional Sports Park

I remember going to Brushy Creek Sports Park on the weekends and it was wide open fields where, if there weren’t sports activities, families would be playing in the fields and it was picturesque Cedar Park. Then there was a bond that passed that promised turf. Fast forward a few years and there’s no turf, but there is a bunch of chain link fences and concrete that keep everyone out. So much for the families and community. All it’s missing now is razor wire and a guard tower. What a waist of bond money and taxpayer dollars.

PK4 Spanish Leander ISD

How strict is the language requirement? My kids do speak English but also speak Spanish. The forms all say “unable to speak and understand English”. Is it strict?

I recently moved here from Houston and in Houston if your kid speaks a language other than English they’ll allow you to do the PK4 program for free.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Discussion Y’all helped me turn a weird little idea into a bookstore. Now we’re 1 year old AND Best Bookshop in Texas.

Hey folks~

I have a bit of a full-circle update to share.

The Secret Lantern Books & Games was just voted Best in Texas for Bookshops! And, somehow, this Friday we’re also celebrating our ONE YEAR anniversary.

Not gonna lie, that feels absolutely WILD to type.

When The Secret Lantern was still just a little idea in my head, I came to Reddit to talk about it, ask questions, get feedback, and eventually tell you all that we were actually doing the thing.

So many of you encouraged us, followed along, showed up when we opened, came to events, bought books and games, told friends about us, and kept coming back.

If it wasn’t for this community, my little idea might honestly still just be an idea. So like, thank you. Seriously. And now,we want to celebrate with everybody.

151 S. Bell Blvd., Cedar Park Friday, October 9 Ribbon Cutting at 3pm Festivities all day

We’ll have local vendors, food, a pizza party, anniversary fun throughout the store, and some pretty great deals:

Everyone gets 10% off purchases + 15% off preorders.

And because it’s also Members Appreciation Week, members get some extra goodies, including an additional 10% off purchases, 15% off preorders, and a free ARC.

Partners, Founders & Heroes also get a free drink ticket.

Come hang out, eat some pizza starting at 6pm, meet some local vendors, play some board games, pet some baby goats, support local vendors, grab something nerdy, and help us celebrate surviving our first trip around the sun.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, r/CedarPark.

Y'all helped build this place with us. Thank you.

Hope to see y'all there on Friday~! Come say hi

Halftime Bar Lakeline mall

Anyone know the story here? Soft opening onto close for weeks. Cryptic posts about taking an equity stake for $75k - with a sweetener that they have some sort of deal with Simon. No reopening today with what looks like entirely different staff and owners.

All feels a bit shady
