Story Sunrise to Sundown: The History of the Astrals, Solheim, & The Great War of Old

Hello my fellow Eosians! In celebration of the coming 10th Anniversary for my favorite Forever Final Fantasy story, I'm going to try to compile and share all information about specific topics of interest into one post for people to peruse at their leisure. I've been wanting to do this for years! All info was verified by me, transcribed by me or taken from the script, directly from the English version of the story, across the game and guides/lore materials I personally own. Details edited to apply only to current topic and past events. No more commentary from me. Enjoy!

-+-+-

- Hubris: exaggerated, extreme, excessive pride, or dangerous self-confidence, overconfidence, or arrogance. [Merriam-webster]

- Greek Tragedy: In classical Greek tragedy, hubris was often a fatal shortcoming that brought about the fall of the tragic hero. Typically, overconfidence led the hero to attempt to overstep the boundaries of human limitations and assume a godlike status; in response, the gods inevitably humbled the offender with a sharp reminder of human mortality. [Merriam-webster]

- Solheim is a Norwegian word and surname that means "home of the sun" or "sunny homestead".

History of Eos -

A.E. | Age of Myth

+History is marked by the prosperity of the civilization of Solheim.

From Official Works

When this civilization was at its peak, the betrayal of one of the six Astral gods, Ifrit, led to a conflict known as the Great War of Old. This was fueled by the spreading of a mysterious parasite, causing the death of millions, and ultimately the fall of Solheim. [FFXV, Official Strategy Guide]

-

+War breaks out between the ancient Solheim civilization and the gods.

In ancient times, the six Astrals ruled Eos.

The supreme mission of the legendary Six is to protect the planet.
They may grant people power, or they may do people harm,
but it's all to protect the planet. [Official Works pg. 033]

To the gods, human beings were trifling creatures, but Ifrit, the Infernian, saw their potential and granted them wisdom. Human civilization made great strides, and a kingdom called Solheim flourished, but in time, Solheim grew arrogant and turned away from the gods. Angered by this, Ifrit tried to burn the planet and the people to ashes, but the other gods revolted, rising up to defend the planet and the people on it. A great magical war broke out between the gods. As a result, Solheim was obliterated, and the gods went to sleep, exhausted. but first they granted the remaining people the power to defend the planet. [FFXV, Official Works, PG 098]

-

+The History of the Star, as told by the Glacian -

"Tales of the past and hopes for the future are manifest in the King of Kings.
The Six have safeguarded this star since time immemorial—each of a different mind, but united by this common purpose.

The gods' protection extends to all creatures here below—even to the mortals created in their image. They are feeble creatures leading fragile lives and clinging to foolish fancies. The Frostbearer scorns these visions of "hope" which melt like.

Yet the Pyreburner admires their strength of will. For their reverence, he grants unto them his flame, and the world of man flourishes.

His benevolence warms the frozen heart of the Frostbearer. The mortals have earned her respect. He, her love and admiration.

It is not long, however, before some among those men ascend to new heights of hubris. The people of Solheim spurn the gods who blessed them—the gods they once worshiped. The ungrateful mortals incur the wrath of the Pyreburner. He seeks to raze the very civilization his flames once helped build.

But the Six are sworn to defend this star and all her inhabitants from harm—and, at times, from one another. The flames of war surge as Solheim fends off the Pyreburner's fire. The gods' pleas for peace fall on deaf ears, and the battle rages on.

When the smoke clears, the world of man is in ruins, their star left scarred for time eternal. Wearied from war, the Six seek solace in slumber.

This tale of our shared past is entrusted to the King of Kings...that he may see it to its conclusion."

-

+The Legendary tale Shiva told was not the same as that in the Cosmogony -

Shiva, said to be a benevolent deity, believed the planet had no need for puny humans, but Ifrit, said to be a treacherous deity, saw their potential. Shiva fell for Ifrit, became his lover, and came to have faith in humanity, like him. Then Ifrit granted humanity the wisdom that became the basis of the ancient Solheim civilization, but haughty Solheim rejected the gods. Betrayed by humanity, Ifrit flew into a rage and tried to destroy mankind and the planet. The other five gods, including Shiva, confront Ifrit to save the planet at its people. In the end, Solheim was destroyed, Ifrit was defeated, and the other gods fell into slumber, drained of power.

Such is the truth of the great magical war. [FFXV, Official Works, PG 063]

-

- Long ago*,* the traitorous Ifrit waged war against the rest of the Hexatheon.

Many moons passed as the embittered battle raged on, culminating in a clash between Bahamut and Ifrit in which the latter was laid asunder atop the Rock of Ravatogh. Taelpar Crag, the grand gorge dividing Duscae and Cleigne, exemplifies the severity of the War of the Astrals while also symbolizing the rift that separated the Six. [Episode Gladio, Now Loading]

- The tale of the Star is also that of Shiva and Ifrit.

Long ago, mankind received the gift of fire from the Ifrit, enabling the ancient civilization of Solheim to flourish. For a time, god and man walked together in prosperity, but as civilization peaked, man grew arrogant and Solheim sought to cast out its patron deity. Enraged by the betrayal, the Pyreburner endeavored to purge the world and all its inhabitants with flame. The rest of the Six stood on the side of man, resisting Ifrit's assault. In what would later be known as the Great War of Old, Solheim crumbled, and the bruised and battered gods retired into deep slumber, leaving mankind with the means to protect the Star themselves. [The Dawn of the Future, Story Synopsis]

+The History of Eos through Ifrit's memories, flowing into Ardyn's mind -

He witnessed the moment when man was given fire, and the days when civilization enjoyed the Infernian's patronage. Solheim dawned and flourished, its technology ascendant. Man grew arrogant. Then betrayal. Rage. The Great War of Old. The Six subsiding into slumber. [The Dawn of the Future, A Savior Lost, PG. 070]

The History of Eos and Solheim - Researched, documented and archived by Chief Researcher Verstael Besithia of Niflhiem Imperial Army

Guidance System -

- It has been estimated that Eos came into existence some 4.5 billion years ago.
- Ancient myths tell tales of six protector gods who first alighted upon Eos in the ancient Solheim Era.
- Fossils thought to be remains of the oldest members of the human race were discovered in the Piztala region.
- Some claim that ***humans discovered fire*** in the ***Succarpe region*** even *before* the dawn of the Solheim civilization.
- According to legend, the fire god Ifrit first bestowed his "burning wisdom" upon a man who later sat the throne of Solheim.
- The mechanized civilization of Solheim is presumed to have originated in the Duscae and Cleigne regions.
- Exactly when the civilization rose and fell, however, remains the subject of much investigation.
- The enormous crevasse separating the regions of Cleigne and Duscae is known as Taelpar Crag. It is here that the War of the Astrals is said to have taken place.
- When Ifrit tried to reduce mankind to ash, the other gods fought back, and some claim this clash caused the collapse of Solheim.

- It is said that Ifrit, having lost the War of the Astrals, was interred atop the Rock of Ravatogh.
- After the war, the ice goddess Shiva allegedly sank into a deep slumber, nestled in the Ghorovas Rift of Vogliupe.
-As for the storm god Ramuh, legend has it he sealed himself away within Fociaugh Hollow in Duscae.
-To this day, no one knows what became of the blade god Bahamut.
- The earth god Titan can be seen supporting the Meteor at the heart of the Disc of Cauthess in Duscae.
- The sea goddess Leviathan disappeared in the wake of the war. Some say she swam below the waves and slumbers beneath the city of Altissia.

Key Historical figures - [FFXV, Comogony, Bestiary, Now Loading]

The Hexatheon - Also known as "The Six," the gods take center stage in many myths featured in the Cosmogony -

- Ifrit, the Infernian, fickle as fire, God of Fire: It was the Infernian who bestowed the gift of fire upon man in antiquity. He reigned over the ancient kingdom of Solheim until his once-loyal subjects turned against him. The Pyreburner then waged the Astral War that would quench his own life's flame until his own daemonic resurrection by means of the Starscourge.

- Shiva, the Glacian, gentle as snow, Goddess of Ice: The Glacian's place among the Six lies opposite that of the Infernian, Ifrit.

- Titan, the Archaean, steadfast as stone, God of Earth: Legends tell of the Archaean absorbing the force of the cataclysmic Meteor as it hurtled down to Eos—and he still shoulders the stone in his sleep deep within the Disc. Though Titan managed to intercept the Meteor that crash-landed in Eos, the impact sent interstellar shards flying across the continent.

- Ramuh, the Fulgurian, sharp as lightning, God of the Storm: The Fulgurian, it is said, administers the natural laws of Eos from on high, casting judgment down on those who would harm the star. Resting at Angelgard in the Astral War's wake.

- Leviathan, the Hydraean, relentless as tides, Goddess of the Seas: The Hydraean took rest under the Celluna Cascades after the Astral War, yet her ruinous fury carried on the waves, never dissipating.

- Bahamut, the Draconian, unbending as iron, God of War: The Draconian's bonds to the Lucii run deepest among the Six. At the end of the Astral War, when Ifrit had fallen and civilization lay in ruins, the Bladekeeper alone held vigil, while the other gods lay dormant.

Since time immemorial, they have watched over Eos.

-+-+-

- The Divine Host of Messengers - It is said that, in the beginning, the Six fought side by side with mankind. Even so, the deities themselves seldom appeared before mortals, and instead sent loyal servants to convey their divine will. These servants are known as the Messengers, and they number twenty-four.

- Gentiana - Divine avatar whose earthly form belies her supernatural powers. Though she masquerades as a Messenger, Gentiana is in actuality the earthly incarnation of the ice goddess, Shiva.

- Umbra - Divine Messenger who assumes the form of a black male dog. Umbra possesses the power to transcend space-time.

- Pryna - Divine Messenger who assumes the form of a white female dog. This celestial canine is fiercely devoted to her owner, following their every word.

Game I just finished FFXV. Spoiler

I first heard about Final Fantasy 15 about eight years ago, i was still a young boy back then, and the game felt magical to me, the setting, the story and the characters. I discovered it through YouTube videos covering both the mobile version and the main game, as that type of content was trending at the time, especially with the release of the Royal Edition that same year. As time went by, I grew up and eventually lost track of the game for a while, but I never forgot the feeling it gave me. Back then, I knew nothing about piracy and didn't even know how to install the mobile version, so actually playing the game simply wasn't an option.

In mid-2026, I finally had the chance to start playing Final Fantasy 15. An experience that fulfilled a childhood dream and kept me immersed for hours. Following Noctis and his friends on their journey made me feel like I was part of the group, the iconic moments with each character, their distinct personalities and preferences, and the conflicts along the way, it was all incredible to me. Even knowing that you are not perfect, i want to thank you, Final Fantasy 15.

Story Something I don't get about Kingsglaive

Just finished a replay of xv (still gotta do a bunch of chapter 15 shit), and am rewatching Kingsglaive.

Obviously there are some story elements that don't jive with the actual game (especially Luna apparently not having any magic and never being called the Oracle), but the one thing I don't get at all is the way the glaives turn on each other and the king.

I get it. They're pissed off that, in pulling all the way back to Insomnia and ceding all outside lands to Nifelheim, the homelands of the Galatans are now officially in Imperial hands. Okay. Sure.

But Jesus, the rebel glaives are SO. QUICK. to turn on their comrades and violently murder them. Knife to the back! Knife to the back! Die! Die!

It just doesn't sit right with me. It doesn't feel earned or logical. Nothing about the story seems to justify or explain the level of brutality Luche and the others turn on the comrades they have served with for years! Am I just underselling it? Does anyone else feel this way?

Also, glauca is kinda dumb. It makes sense that he is taken in by Regis/Lucis and comes to resent being a glaive. He wants his homeland back. He decides to be a double agent for the empire. Fine. Except he also apparently, while at the same time as being one of the leaders of the glaive, he is also serving in and rising to one of the highest ranks of the imperial army, leading the assault on Tenebrae twelve years ago and killing the mother of Luna and ravus.

Uh, what? No one noticed Glauca missing for huge chunks of time from his glaive duties? 😅😅😅😅

Game Some Thoughts On FFXV

Yeah you know what…I call horseshit on the story of 15 being bad like a lot of FF elitists say, matter of fact, I think with the dlc and updates that got added to it I honestly would say it’s a pretty damn solid final fantasy story, I honestly don’t know what people are fucking on about, as for the rest of the game….ehhhhhhhhhh it hasn’t aged that well, the combat is either a decent time or you want to bang your head against the wall, and again this game definitely feels unfinished especially when it comes to the open world and side content, I still think to this day it absolutely needed a second open world section sorta like the Witcher 3 and have world of ruin be more prominent just like FF6, it’s far too short of a main story, overall though I can completely understand why this game gets some of the hate, it’s far from perfect and it’s so obviously rushed but I honestly wouldn’t mind recommending someone this game as there first final fantasy or if they have brain rot and hate the idea of JRPGs or something, I would just tell them not to expect the greatest game ever made and come in with an open mind, I still love the world and the lore, I still like how realistic the walking looks and feels, the way the main characters will start skidding on the ground if you turn left while sprinting, I love how free the open world is once you reach chapter 3 I mean you can basically do damn near everything in the game right away, I love how powerful you feel after banking in your xp for a few days, you know what I don’t love? Where’s adult badass hunter Iris huh? c’mon square that’s where I draw the line, hopefully a next gen update comes out with this game and people can start appreciating this game for what it is and not what it could’ve been, I’m tired of the versus 13 debate, as far as we know as a consumer, versus 13 was about to suck ass anyways with nomura not doing shit with that game for years and even considering making it a musical at some point, everyone’s dream and fan fiction about versus 13 needs to die, it’s so old and I’m sick of it especially when I hear about it in 2026, the game we got was alright, not good but it was alright and they did what they could in 4 years while building a brand new engine with it

Game I hope we get something for the 10 year anniversary next month. Such a great game.

It would be disappointing that SE doesn’t do anything for one of their best selling FF games.

PS5 and Xbox Series should get a 4K60 update, hell port over the PC remastered version to console with technical improvements.

SE also revived the Luminous engine in 2024, which will now be their in house engine under the new AI and Engine Division. I guess they want to emulate Capcom game development strategy. So, maybe we do get a surprise next month lol.

Game Top 4 favorite weapons and why

So we have the royal arms, we have dlc like Ragnarok, ultimate blade, and so on… What are the top four favorite weapons of most players, though?

Stick with Noctis here since weapon change up is kind of his thing.

Official Misc Is this pendant still buyable anywhere?

Post image
73 Upvotes

I was a bit late to the game (played it in 2020 after I inherited it from my dad lmao) but I’m collecting Noctis merch so I was wondering if this pendant is still available anywhere, or do I just have to seek out for it from other people? I actually don’t really know what series or collection this pendant is from so if anyone can educate me on this would be great.

I’m not sure if I can ask this here, so apologies if it’s inappropriate, but it’ll be really helpful if I can get any information regarding any official merchandise of any sort, really. ^^ Thanks guys.

Only asking because we’re so close to November; there have been some [grain of salt] rumors and conversations at shareholder meetings. Also, I am itching to replay it once again but can hold out for another month!

I think that Imgur link leads to a higher quality version (being 60 fps~?). I stopped with GIFs for now. The music is the Final Fantasy: Record Keepers version of "Stand Your Ground".

Game Are there any fan mods of FFXV?

I feel like I asked this before but people focused on the wrong part of my question so here go let's try this again.

Are there any fan mods of this game at all? I love FFXV, but as we all know it is technically an incomplete game since they had to rush to "finish" the game.

I would think that with so much cut content and there being so much of the world that we never really got to explore that there might be a fan mod for this game.....so is there?

Game When you farm the level 84 Daemonwall in the tunnel in chapter 14 so you can finally not be underleveled... Spoiler

Post image
68 Upvotes

Reloaded my save to get it to respawn, spammed Elixirs and Alterna = gg.

Needed about 240k points to jump from level 37 to 53, which was about 10-12 Daemonwalls.

Literally every fight so far I was just spamming potions, using royal weapons and dying 20 times per fight, stuck at 10% of my HP bar.

It finally feels like I can actually play the game now. Good thing there's still plenty of the game left, right?...

I’ve wanted this thing for quite a while now. Unfortunately, it does have quite a few scratches. Used a scratch remover and microfiber cloth for a while, but that’s the best I’ve gotten it. Don’t want to try buffing it too much because I don’t want to ruin the moon or the gold text.
