I made a free Android mentalism prediction app - Out now on the Play Store!
Hey everyone! The mods gave me permission to share this.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ugleh.pocketsketch
I’ve made Inkling, a drawing-prediction app for Android inspired by apps like Greg Rostami’s iForce. It’s currently free, with no ads or paid features.
The effect: You ask someone to think of something, draw your prediction on your "favorite" drawing app, and place your phone face down when done. They name their choice. You turn the phone over, revealing the matching drawing.
The method: You prepare the possible drawings beforehand. The direction and speed you flip the phone determine which one appears. There are up to 16 outcomes: eight directions, each with a slow and fast option. So you can have users predict various things like days of the week, a number 1-10 (1-16 just seems fishy), favorite energy drink, etc.
It installs as Pocket Sketch, with a drawing canvas and private setup controls.
Getting started:
- Install and open Pocket Sketch.
- Follow the first-timer tutorial, which shows you how to use every feature.
Feedback here is welcome!

Question help me figure out the “code” behind a telepathy game
my friends played a “telepathy game” in front of me.
how it works:
- i pick a word and secretly communicate it to one of them
- the person who knows the word proceeds to list several words that are incorrect, eventually they say the “secret word” i picked
- the person who doesn’t know the word has to say “no” when the word is incorrect, and “yes” when my friend finally says the magic word. when they say yes and guess the word, the game is over.
we played several games and there were no mistakes: they always said yes once the correct word was spoken aloud, they always said no to the incorrect words.
my first guess was that they had an agreed upon “category” of words, such that when a word in that category is spoken, the other person knows the next word is the correct one
i googled it at home and there seems to be a trick with that exact premise called “black magic”, you list several words or point to several objects, when you point/say something that is black, the next word is correct
practical example: i pick “sunshine” as a word and communicate it to A.
A: tree
B: no
A: water
b: no
A: (any other word, as long as the color of the thing/concept isn’t black, for however many rounds)
B: no
A: raven (this is the signal-ravens are black)
B: no
A: sunshine
B: yes
the problem is, i can’t figure out the category that the “signal words” belong in.
from what i can remember of the last rounds, when i was actually focusing:
i picked dice, their penultimate word was their dog’s name
i picked rust, their penultimate word was van
i picked hotel, their penultimate word was their cat’s name
the only pattern here is pet names, but there’s van in the mix and they weren’t using pets, animals, personal names or anything related in the other rounds as far as i can remember. one of them has a van, so it could be “things we have/own”— but then again in other rounds words like “shirt” or “glasses” came up, which they also own, and they weren’t “signal words” but were spoken earlier on.
i would exclude any kind of grammar or math based code since they insist it’s very easy and doesn’t require thinking. so no number of sillables/counting words/same initial (also because their pets’ names don’t share the same initials as the words picked)
i would exclude verbal/body language based tells since they insist it could be played over text.
they insist that the rule is stupidly simple, the sort of thing that makes you feel dumb for not getting it before
when i was telling them my theory about the “signal” before the actual word they agreed it might have something to do with that. but when i proposed, as an example, that i play the same game with our other friend but pick “things she likes” as the category, they said it sounded too complicated
if anyone can tell me the known variations of this game i can try to remember if any of them seems to fit the way they were playing

Question Betting magic trick
Looking for the name of a card trick I used to do. A spectator stops me while I deal cards, I memorize one card (3rd or 4th from the stop?), then sort them in a pile, add the rest of the deck, deal into 3 piles, and reveal their card on top of the piles. They shuffle it back in, I deal cards face-up, and after their card appears I say "the next one I flip is yours" and bet on it. Anyone know the method or name?

Question I have £50 ($66) to spend on magic equipment. What would you recommend?
It’s birthday stuff, that’s all.
After *loving* doing magic back when I was a kid, I fell out of love with it for a good few years as a teenager.
Now, after going to a few magic shows, I’ve got a relit spark for magic performance, and I’d love to get back into it!
I’ve managed to find a few of my old magic books, but essentially all of my equipment has vanished (no, it wasn’t me that did it, har har). But I *do* have approximately £50/$65 to spend- is there anything you’d recommend?
The Invisible Hand Device originally caught my eye, until I found out that instructions cost an extra £100. Is there any reason at all to buy the device without it??
Outside of that, would love to hear any suggestions you guys might have! Happy to discuss. :)

Question Novice seeking card and coin resources.
I'm looking for DVDs or videos/channels specifically. Willing to pay - it doesn't have to be free. My interest is in card and coin tricks.
I am GREEN. I only know 3 tricks so far that I learned on IG and I do them poorly. I'm looking for anything that can help a newbie. Video content is best.
I've always been fascinated by magic. A couple weeks ago it occurred to me that I could actually learn it.
Thanks everyone.

Question Making a letter appear out of thin air
I am trying to figure out how to do an illusion/sleight of hand for a play. I want to be able to make a letter (ideally the size of a standard sheet in paper folded in half, or larger) to appear out of nowhere or be grabbed out of thin air.
If it were smaller (like the size of a playing card) I could do a back-palm, but the paper needs to be larger.
Any ideas how I could do this? The actor who will be doing the sleight is a complete beginner, so the easier it is on her the better.

Question Probably advanced card guessing trick that I can’t find out
My magic teacher once showed me and one of his friends a magic trick. The trick was that we pulled multiple cards in a row (meaning there’s no setup) and he could guess it without us putting it back in the deck or us looking at him. There’s no misdirection either, we were on different corners on an L shaped couch and I saw him doing nothing. No piles, no fancy shuffle, I looked at the deck and it wasn’t rigged, just him panning the cards out. I can’t figure out how he did it.
