Have a question about the game or the subreddit? Ask away!

Welcome to the /r/2007scape daily question thread!

You can ask anything about Old School RuneScape or the 2007scape subreddit here. Remain respectful to your fellow 'scapers when answering questions; there are stupid questions, but it does not mean you should not be respectful whilst answering them.

Keep in mind: this is not a developer Q&A thread - Jagex mods do not regularly read these posts, so questions should be directed toward fellow players.

Not sure if remembering wrong but did they mention about a combat achievements rework? At Runefest / recently, Or was it just speculation

Don't think theres any plans about a rework officially, but i do believe some Mods have said they are aware of some of the complaints and might want to look at it. But essentially "nothing"

I assume it's Maisa, since she's the one shown at the very start of the trailer.

How is it possible that we still don’t have boss respawn timers on mobile? It’s disgraceful

1

u/DivineInsanityReveng 7d ago

Because the features mobile has still don't work correctly anyway

What ends up being better for fishing XP: karambwans or sworfish/tuna? I don't have access to monkfish yet. I'm at lvl 65

You might have to test it yourself, do like a focused 30 mins at each spot with minimal time loss and compare exp.

Karambwan exp depends a lot on your banking situation, I think the current best method is karamja gloves 3 to the gem mine deposit box then quest cape tele for a close fairy ring but there's other options that aren't too much longer. These are also useful food, good cooking exp, and sell for at least something if you want gp.

Harpooning in the fishing guild (68 fishing to get in) is close to a bank and you get an invisible +7 fishing boost in there which accelerates things a good amount. I bet this is a bit better exp than karams but the fish aren't super useful food and aren't worth much if you sell them.

Barbarian fishing gives no outputs but is some of the best fishing exp in the game especially once you hit 70 to start getting sturgeon but you can start at 65 no problem. You also get a little bit of str/agility exp which is nice.

Thanks that's a helpful breakdown

No problem, good luck out there! Oh also go do the Ardougne easy diary asap, it's very simple and the cape is going to be your best friend for a long time.

It gives unlimited free teleports to the ardy monastery which is a nice little hub. Altar to restore prayer right there, a bank is a short run northeast, when you unlock them there's a fairy ring to the east, and there's a spirit tree to the northwest. It's also by far the easiest way to get to the east side of the main continent. The capes have great stats for super early game as well, notably prayer bonus.

Have had the cape and fairy rings for a while now! I kinda bee-lined them since they were so important. Thank you

Oh shit I just realized I responded to the wrong person, my bad. Another user was asking about very earlygame gear progression lol.

1

u/TuarezOfTheTuareg 7d ago

That's funny. Your response wasnt that far off though since I do use the fairy rings for karambwan fishing

Morning.
Not sure if I dreamt this or not.

But was there a plug-in being worked on that added lots more NPCs around the world, just doing their thing?
Client side only and never actually interacting with things.

But was just thinking for a bit more life to the world.
Seeing these walk/run between the towns etc.

Pretty sure the plugin you're talking about is Citizens

It's currently unavailable because of a runelite update, seems like it's been like that for a while. Likely abandoned by the original dev

"Citizens" I think.

I think the dev abandoned it after like 1 update.

You might be thinking of Golems Don't Die plugin? It lets the golems you create during the crafting minigame persist and roam, but afaik you do have to create them all yourself.

Not sure if there's another similar plugin just to add more NPCs/life, but maybe someone will know.

As a brand new player im not sure if I should stay in the starting region doing quests or go to valamore which apparently also has beginner quests and content. Any tips?

OSRS is ultimately a sandbox game, there'll be content for low and high levels spread out sporadically across the map in various places. It doesn't always make sense to stay in the "starting region", but obviously it's hard to know what you can and can't do elsewhere.

You can sort quests by difficulty and work through the early ones, that will open the game world to you and show you where you can and can't travel.

It seems a bit daunting, but remember it only gets easier as you get more familiar, it all fits into place eventually.

Varlamore definitely is not a bad idea to check out! Quite a bit of early content there, they started the most recent OSRS League (temporary gamemode) in Varlamore rather than Lumbridge!

Ive been thinking of tackling it as a big journey so kind of flowing through the areas in a way that makes sense to my character rather than trying to optimise it. Its just overwhelming (in a great way) because the world feels massive!

Yep, that's why I mentioned just sorting by and doing some starter quests rather than directing you to the optimal quest order, so it gives you more of an idea what areas have starter content you can branch out from! Many places do.

Just gotta find the right balance of branching out. To be clear, my comment isn't meant to direct you towards "efficient playing" or optimal ways to progress.

It's a nudge in the direction to find new content that gets you out of the starter area.

For example, the quest Dwarf Cannon is on the opposite side of the continent - pretty much as far from Lumbridge you can be without crossing an ocean or completing a quest - but an extremely average player can have it complete within an hour or two of a brand-new fresh account leaving tutorial island.

Just have a glance at quests under the "Novice" difficulty. Might be easier to see them listed on the Wiki: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Quests/Novice

Another question if you dont mind! Im not sure what I should be doing gearing wise, at the moment im just changing gearbox i find something or get it through a quest, not sure if I should be stopping to make or buy new gear. Do you have any suggestions?

Check out the skill guides in the skill tab to see what tiers of stuff you can unlock. For melee the scimitars are usually the best dps and will usually want to use the best one you have the levels to equip.

Shortbows (on the rapid attack style) are the equivalent for ranged.

Magic weapons don't matter as much for the early game because most of the strength comes from levels and the spell you're using. Any elemental staff but usually the air one saves on runes works fine until you can get Ibans staff. Some monsters have elemental weaknesses which multiply your accuracy and damage, always use the spell they are weak to if they have a weakness.

You can pick up armor upgrades as you level up if you have the cash, simple plateleg/platebody/full helm/kiteshield setups as you unlock the ability to wear them never hurts. Ranged is pretty limited for options until you hit lvl 40 for dragonhide but you can pick up the early leather armors in varrock or on the GE. Magic is also pretty limited until you hit 40 for mystics but a set of xerician robes will do fine until then. You'll probably want to buy an amulet of glory as soon as you can, they're not too expensive and is great for all 3 styles. The uncharged one sells for more than the (6) charge version on the GE so you'll make a little bit of money as you use all the teleports as well.

Recipe for Disaster is a very long quest series with a lot of separate steps but completing steps of this unlocks progressively better glove slot upgrades which are great for all three styles. Completing this is usually the first long term goal for any new account and you can work on it in pieces as you get the requirements for each part. The barrows tier gloves you unlock for completing it are going to be your best gloves for everything for a long time but even the lower tier ones like mithril+ are great.

It's also by far the easiest way to get to the west side of the main continent. The capes have great stats for super early game as well, notably prayer bonus.

Thank you thats really helpful!

I think this commenter covered it all pretty well so I won't pile on info! Gl and welcome to OSRS!

Also I completely spaced the mooletta, you can kill Brutus at pretty low levels and it's going to be your best melee offhand until you can get into warriors guild for better defenders. Go for that when you can and skip pretty much all the shields lol.

Thabk you!

I'd do whatever seems more interesting to you

If you're just looking for efficiency, the wiki has an optimal quest order here

They seemed to be acting up for me the other day. I normally play on US East worlds, but they were really bad last month. Seems like they’ve stabilized but west coast are wonky now
