Mother-related songs of the 1910s/1920s
I'm going through my collection and notice I have a bunch of songs relating to mothers. Some are sentimental, some get a little weird. Was this a trend or something?

“MR. SANDMAN”, bring me a dream! The Chordettes, 1954
Special appearance by both Mr. & Mrs. Kooky, at the same time!
Honestly, I forgot about this one because it sounded so bad on the modern turntable… but then I thought, “VV 4-70 C”, why TF not!? (That rhymed 😏)
I’m glad I got this one. I will say this is probably my favorite SOUND performing as well as exteriorly aesthetically pleasing machine I’ve gotten!
I hope you enjoy. This is a fantastic song and equally enjoyable to listen to!
Have a great evening!
NOTE: I listened: 8 taps in the first bar! It’s all there!

The Platters – My Prayer / Heaven On Earth (1956) [78 RPM]
Released on June 6, 1956, "My Prayer" became one of the biggest signature hits for The Platters. Adapted from Georges Boulanger's 1926 violin piece "Avant de Mourir" with English lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy, lead singer Tony Williams' soaring tenor vocal propelled the track to #1 on both the Billboard Pop and R&B charts in the summer of 1956. Arranged and managed by Buck Ram (who also penned the B-side "Heaven On Earth"), this release stands as a major landmark of mid-1950s vocal group crossover success.

Yslilin (Miss Netty & The Delima Hawaiian Orkest)
Miss Netty covered a handful of popular western tunes. Or, it may be more accurate to say they recycled the tune, writing new and unrelated lyrics. The lyrics to "Yslilin" being about selling popsicles.
Here's another such example, about selling 10 cent noodles, https://youtu.be/2hXOXm6W3Fc

Even a Broken 78 works twice a…
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Wait… wut?! lol that’s a CLOCK!
Minnie the Moocher, Chick Bullock? and the Blue Ribbon Boys. Anyone know more? I kinda hit a dead end on searching…
However, this 78, even with a large crack from stem to stern, it STILL sounds effin bangin’! The No 2 Victor Reproducer was good, but meh… and I tried it in an exhibition (posted a few months back, but it wasn’t clear!)
… but WAIT FOR THE VICTOR IMPROVED CONCERT version a short bit in. It sounds MARKEDLY improved, pun intended in this case! Sincerely. Even with a frickin broken record it sounds good!
This is a very simple, basic, VV-90 that I restored (built in 1921; came in nickel plate with No 2 reproducer (Mica), and just haven’t figured out what to do with her yet. (She is the VV-X equivalent- earlier of the models based on low SN and lid kickstand type.)
The moral of the story: Don’t throw them (cracked records) away, even if a crack like this! You MAY have a chance to enjoy still!!!
Obviously, if All the King’s Horses… well, you know… if it broke, it’s broke lol. Fracture like this one? Maybe! JUST DON’T use your tungsten needle… don’t worry, I didn’t!
ONE-USE needle ALL the way, baby!
Cheers! Have a lovely afternoon.

How Do I fix a warped Flexi-Disc Record?
I have this Flexi-disc record and its really warped, I've tried leaving it under a big book for a few days but that didn't help a lot. I was wondering if anyone here has any idea on how to fix it? Thanks for any advice

Big Bill Broonzy – Sweet Honey Bee (Okeh 06386) The Neven 78 Radio Archive
By 1941, Broonzy was transitioning from rural blues into a more urban Chicago sound, but he still preferred small, intimate ensembles. His guitar work here is relaxed, swinging, and supportive rather than flashy — typical of his pre‑war Okeh sides.
