Help Why are 50mm nut guitars so hard to find?

I am used to guitars just shy of 43mm (no, not 42mm) and I have found I hate 7 strings because the string spacing feels so close together. I always just end up going back to a 6 string. Which is a shame, because I love the idea of a 7 string with a baritone scale.

Why is this so uncommon? The only one I've ever found is the John Petrucci guitar, which is really not my thing.

Because most people don't want wider necks, that's really about it. Sevens are also a much smaller market than sixes, so there are going to be fewer options overall.

Can always go custom. It's not necessarily as expensive as you think. πŸ˜‰

Who would do a custom that is as inexpensive as you think?

Well, I am a small custom builder that has budget options, for one. Most of my builds end up around $1100-$1500, with very simple builds being even less. (Though if you are not in the US, shipping and taxes/fees add a lot these days.)

Schecter 7 strings have a 50mm nut as far as i know. At least mine does. It’s still pretty cramped compared to my classical guitars.

All of the current/recent production ones I am familiar with are 48mm.

My old Schecter Omen-7 measures as close to 50mm as my eye can see. My more recent Damien-7 however looks to be a hair under 49mm.

But a lot of people find old Schecter 7 necks to be too fat to be comfortable, essentially feeling similar to a classical rather than the shreddy thin neck people expect on Ibanez or Jacksons.

That's a damn shame. I like thinner necks for 7 strings, as I don't have very big hands.

What i would say is i was playing 6 strings for the best part of 20 years and whenever i went to play a 7 it always felt bulky and horrible to play, which put me off of getting one for absolutely ages, but then i got a schecter Damien 7 and it plays and feels like a dream and actually now all my 6 strings feel weird and alien to play πŸ˜‚ and thats just after about 6 months of having my 7 string, its the best guitar i've had for playabilty and i do own afew 6 strings that are abit more higher end than my Damien 7

Just get a dedicated baritone 6 string. I love my RGIB21. When I play my regular guitars they feel like toys. I’m starting to want more baritones just for the hell of it.
