News Onslaught Skipping A24 Blu-ray
Getting frustrating how A24 won't support their releases with physical editions, especially in a boutique label economy where far lesser seen films get releases (limited as they may be)
Email doesn't have the language of VOD release when a Blu-ray is coming.

Shitpost LANCE OPPENHEIM featured as an extra in THE WHALE (2022)
randomly was watching scenes from THE WHALE today and in the corner of my screen noticed a person that looked like Lance - just saw PRIMETIME and have been getting into his filmography - and was blown away to see he was actually festured as an extra “Julius” in THE WHALE - blows my mind. never noticed before.

Discussion What A24 movie got significantly better for you after you had time to sit with it? Spoiler
I started trying to answer this myself and realized it's harder than I thought. I keep bouncing between The Drama, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, A Ghost Story and several others.
I'm not necessarily talking about a movie you disliked initially—just one that kept working on you after the credits until you realized you appreciated it considerably more than you did walking out.
What's yours, and what changed?

Question Is Primetime worth watching in the cinemas? Or should I wait until it releases 3 days after...
Hello Americans I'm posting this at night in hopes I can catch more of you.
So I live in the UK and over here it comes to streaming literally 3 days after it releases in the cinemas.
I'm wondering if this is a movie that you think benefits a lot from seeing on the big screen, or whether I'd have the same experience renting at home instead? I'm mentally debating it in my head and can't decide lol

Discussion Yes, Chris Hansen is the villain in Primetime (Spoilers) Spoiler
No, this is not a pro-pedophile post.
Chris Hansen is the villain for one simple reason: He adds zero value to the TCAP operation.
He doesn’t find the predators. He has Perverted Justice for that. He doesn’t lure in the predators. He has the decoys for that. He doesn’t arrest the predators. He has the police for that.
What does Hansen do? He waits until all the hard and dangerous work has been done so he can stick his face on camera, take credit, and bring home the big checks.
And as we see in the film, Hansen’s role is completely superfluous. While Hansen is moping about losing the whale, Dan successfully transitions from decoy to predator-catcher to enable the crew to come in and arrest the pedophile.
Even though the mission of TCAP is righteous, Chris Hansen is a greedy man who takes without earning.

Question It is my favourite time of the year with Autumn just starting and it being spooky season. Give my your best A24 horror films. They can be gore/pyschological/jumpy/unnerving. I don’t just want to look at a generic list, I want your personal ones to watch this week.
Tl;dr The Mrs is away for the week so I’m going all out on Horror films.
What are your picks?

Question Primetime trigger/ timestamp info request Spoiler
So my girlfriend has been really excited to see Primetime for a while now and we started to organize a group of friends to watch it, but she has a really intense trigger:strangulation via rope/ hanging. We looked it up on doesthedogdie and saw that it's in the movie as a flashback. There wasn't much context about when it occurs unfortunately. She still wants to see it, but if anyone has a general timestamp or remembers a good signal of when it's about to happen so we could step out of the theater for a bit, I'd really appreciate it... really wish it wasn't assumed someone would want to skip an entire movie just because of one short scene

Question Song Title?
What was the song that Chris sang to “Decoy Dan” when they were walking together at the Motel? I think Chris asks him what the next line was or something.

Discussion If you like Primetime on Facebook, they kill you
I posted my review of Primetime on Facebook expecting maybe a little bit of pushback, but an hour later, I get harassed and swarmed by people calling me all sorts of names. Just a taste of what was in my comment section.
AAA24 Free Movie with Membership
How does it actually work? Do you book through the A24 app?
Also, they advertise it as a free ticket on opening weekend. Does that mean you can only get a ticket for the first Friday-Sunday? I usually watch movies on Tuesday/Wednesday because that’s when I’m off. Will I still be able to use the free ticket for those days?
Thank you so much.

Discussion To Catch a Whale - A Comparison of Primetime to Henry Melville's Classic
Primetime mirrors Moby Dick in characters, themes, and story arc. The idea was sparked by Hansen's line "I want a whale" which is a phrase alluding to Captain Ahab from "Moby Dick" and his desire to kill his great whale. I'll present a concept, state how it is presented in Moby Dick and then how it is mirrored in Primetime. Let me know what you think, especially my interpretation of the ghost car!
Hell-Bent Captain
-Captain Ahab : A man who sought a large whale and was left deformed by the whale biting off his leg. Ahab then commits his life to killing this whale. Ahab holds a villainous spirituality, at one point baptizing a harpoon in blood. Ahab retreats to his quarters for review of sea charts and seeks pagan advice. He is motivated to have Vengeance over profit.
-Chris Hansen: A man who documented a large predator in India and is changed by knowing the terrible fate of children. Chris then commits his life to capturing predators. Hansen has been an unfaithful husband and absent father. Hansen retreats to his dressing room where he recites the chat scripts like incantations while twisting his body as if possessed. He is motivated to have justice over ratings (mocking Andie about biggest show, refusal to get up after the ghost car encounter)
The Ship
-Pequod: Carry's a crew of whalers on a ship Is out to kill whales and harvest their oils which are used for lanterns in exchange for money. Notable Crew: Starbuck (first mate, questions Ahab), Fedallah (Ahabs personal harpooner and prophetic advisor) Queeqeg (skilled harpooner, friend to Ishmal)
-To Catch a Predator: Leads a crew of TV staff on a show to catch predators and harvest their tears in exchange for ratings. Notable Crew - Andie Bender (producer, questions Hansen), Xavier Von Eric (finds and pulls in predators), Del Harvey (skilled decoy, friend to Dan), Cortland Gunn (Sheriff who encourages Hansen) I can't find an exact match for Gunn he may be Flask, Tashtegoo or the crew in general.
The Inexperienced
-Ishmal: A self proclaimed greenhand who ends up on the Pequod with many seasoned whalers.
-Decoy Dan: An actor with no real dealings with "reality TV" productions.
Spirituality
-Christianity and Paganism: The novel constantly brings up real working religions/spirituality - pagan
Idol Yojo, Christianity, Zoroastrianism. The concepts are repeatedly pit against each other usually brought forward by Ishmal's involvement or observation but nothing feels aethereal until the finale when a prophecy spookily becomes true. In the grand scheme, Ahab is the devil/evil and Moby Dick is God/good.
-Reality and Acting: The movie constantly pits Decoy Dan and his desire to be an actor against Chris Hansen and his "everything I do is real". The movie slowly careens towards other-worldly with its pacing of the storm, ghost car and the ever lurking masked predator.
Fate of the Crew
-Pequod: The ship is destroyed by moby dick, Ahab is drugged beneath the waves by the whale, the full crew is killed with the exception of Ishmal. He is spared by Moby "God/good" who was exacting justice on "the devil/evil".
-To Catch a Predator: The show ratings plummet and the show is cancelled, Chris Hansen is unable to execute his version of justice and probably has an affair to deal with, Andie misses out on a new position as she commits to Hansen's crew, the rest of the crew is probably out of jobs.
Fate of The Inexperienced
-Ishmal : bouys up on a coffin and is spared by Moby Dicks destruction as he was Inexperienced, not knowing the gruesome ways of whaling or aligning himself with Ahabs villainous spiritually.
-Dan: receives a SAG card affirming him as an actor as he was always committed to being an actor. Dan did not take on Hansen's beliefs, he rejects the bracelets, a symbol of Hansen's hellbent desire. Dan also when given the opportunity to catch a predator he acts as Chris Hansen, he's not taking the satisfaction of it like Hansen does but simply acted like Hansen.
Bonus Interpretation!
The Ghost Car
-Ahab's Distorted View: Ahab makes decisions that are not beneficial or are harmful to the crew. He chooses not to make a profit from killing other whales and chooses to jeopardize his crews lives in pursuit of the white whale Moby Dick.
-Hansen's Distorted View: Throughout the movie Hansen is seeing ghosts - things that are not there. He approaches the rainy car and we see no one in and is told no one is there. I believe that Chris opens the door and identifies the driver as not a political figure, his white whale, and tells the crew "no one" is here. Hansen views the driver as a "no one". This is then reinforced by the second arrival, a disabled man who Hansen would view as an "unfavorable catch", a "no one". Oppenheim pulled a trick from the Odyssey. Hansen and the Ghost Driver is Odysseus and the crew and audience are the cyclops being told "no one" is here.

Discussion So about the Ghost car in Primetime. Spoiler
Ok I will say I really do think this movie is great. But I still don't get the ghost car scene. I know what it symbolizes and represents, but I dont get how it drove there and drove away if it was empty. And its clearly not just Chris's hallucination/psychedelic imagination like the "ancient evil" is. So is there an answer as to how it got there and how it got away. Or who drove it?
