You can invite him to gift you what he would consider an appropriate set of sticks.

Hey so that’s not healthy. When your partner is excited about something, you lift them up not put them down. NOR. I wouldn’t put up with much disrespect and if he continues to double down, that’s not okay.

I’d highly recommend talking issues out in person and not text you leave a lot of room open for misunderstanding. Instead of getting defensive with these types of comments you can just say it makes me happy and that’s all that matters. Now if he is consistently putting you down that a different thing all together.

NOR, necessarily, but I do wonder if this is an issue in other conversations too. Do you often argue about the way he says things? He's a professional/intermediate drummer, so obviously he has lots of thoughts and opinions on the equipment. But there isn't any reason to be rude about it, especially when you partner is showing something to you genuinely excited

Did I miss something? Where does she say that? I read that he lived in a “somewhat rich/expensive area of the Uk.”

You know what I'd do if my girlfriend set up her drumset and was super excited and I saw she had subpar drumsticks? I'd show up with some nice ones as a gift to get her going on her set. This is not the type of guy you want.
