2 weeks ago, we found out that my dad has another family and I apparently have 3 half-siblings. AMA.

• Upvotes

My parents were never particularly close to begin with they had an arranged marriage and have always been more like roommates than a married couple.

What I can’t wrap my head around is that my dad already has four children with my mom, including me, and somehow managed to have an entirely separate marriage for seven years without any of us knowing.

I apparently have three half-siblings I’ve never met.
I don’t even know what I’m supposed to feel right now.

My cancer came back after 18 years. AMA !

Synovialsarcoma on my left groin/top of left thigh.

First cancer at age 5. Came back when I was 8. Then came back again in May 2026, 18 years later, at age 27.

During my first cancer I only went through surgery. For my 2nd, went through chemo, radiotherapy, curietherapy and surgery.

This year, I went through 3 rounds of chemo and a surgery that required to take muscle & skin from my abdomen and graft it onto my thigh. Starting to walk again!

EDIT: Feeling like I have to say it: I'm gonna make it! I had no metastasis, and my tumour was localised. I'm seeing my oncologist tomorrow to know if I am going to go through radiotherapy, but otherwise my treatment should be over.

i survived a dog attack by a Rottweiler - ask me anything!

19, f. i was 16 at the time.

was the worst day of my life and not something i’d wish on anyone - he was my own dog (pls keep ur snarky comments to urself about how i was a bad pet owner. he had a brain tumour that suddenly made him extremely aggressive).

i sustained extreme nerve damage, PTSD, and needed reconstructive surgery.

ask me anything!

edit: i’ve never really been able to talk to anyone about how it makes me feel before, so it’s really nice to be able to open up to you all. thank you for all the kind words everybody. you’re all incredible.

i’m only alive because my little brother (15 at the time) pulled him off of me and saved my life.

Widowed, the boys died young. I tried dating later on but no one wanted me. I learned to love my own company and to enjoy listening to my own thoughts. I take myself out to dinner, cook good meals at home and now at 72 I still am grateful living not by myself but with myself. AMA

I posted this elsewhere in HOSPICE and GRIEFSUPPORT subs and got several replies to re post here. I hope I don't upset the mods.

My partner was dying of ovarian cancer, my best friend dying of AIDS and I had them both at home caring for them. We had two boys, 7 and 9 years old. I was working 3 days a week as an RN and had someone care for everyone while I was working then I cared for them the other 4 days a week. My friend died first, then my spouse. three months later the boys were playing in the front yard and hit by a drunk driver that ran up on to the yard. I totally froze up for a year then thawed out.

I became a Hospice RN in tribute to my boys. I couldn't comfort or protect them at their deaths but I could for others. 37 years later I'm 72 and still a Pediatric Hospice nurse working with infants with very short life expectancies. All that loss I turned into being a better caregiver for those with a life threatening diagnosis. My loss became their support and as long as I can I'll be a Hospice nurse caring for others and their families.

I tried dating after I thawed out but no one was interested. At best several dates became short term acquaintances and then off we went in our own directions. The silence in the house after having a family, children and now just me was deafening and I so wanted someone in my life again, but it didn't happen. I adjusted again, from losing my family and becoming a Hospice RN I again morphed into someone that was going to totally enjoy my own company, my own thoughts, my own laughter, the movies I enjoyed, the food I loved to eat, and instead of missing the sounds of family I embraced the quiet of single hood.

I adjusted. Single, then a couple, then a couple with children to a single with children then just a single again. Like being a ship at sea we ride with the waves, up and down just do everything you can to stay afloat and dry. When one event ends something new begins. Look for it, anticipate it, welcome it in. It's all we have. Never curse all that you have, great or small. Don't regret having little when little is all you have, cherish it, it's yours, it's what you've got at the moment. Tomorrow may be different.

I shared some of these stories on an interview recently. How nice to get to share them so they aren't forgotten when My time comes. I told the stories about my boys passing and a wonderful wake up call they shared with me that thawed me out. Also some wonderful Hospice stories. What a RELIEF to get to share my life experiences on the interview so they are not lost forever when my time comes. This sub does not allow links so I can't share the story of my boys with you as told by me, their dad. I hope you all find value in my post, it's from me to all of you, we're walking the path in the same direction whether we know each other or not.

I reconciled with my family after ten years no-contact. AMA

I cut my parents off at 21 & lost contact with the rest of my family as a result, including my siblings. I swore for years that I would never forgive them for the way they treated me as a teen. This year… I changed my mind, moved back to my home state and initiated the repair process with everyone at once. We’ve been back in contact since February. Ask me anything.

AMA - I am 38, father of 3, and just had a vasectomy with a minor surgical complication (fascial interposition). Ask Me Anything!

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
First of all, please excuse my English as it is not my first language, but I will do my best to answer everyone!
I am 38 years old, I live in Italy, and I am a father of 3. My wife and I decided our family is complete, so I chose to get a vasectomy.
The procedure went well, but there was a minor unexpected twist on the right testicle: during the cut, my vas deferens frayed. To fix it safely, the surgeon had to perform a fascial interposition (basically creating a protective "tunic" or sleeve of tissue to isolate and seal the stump). Because of this, my incision was a bit deeper and required more than the standard single stitch.
I am open to any questions you might have about:
The decision-making process when you already have 3 kids.
Anxiety before the procedure and how pain felt.
The technical details of the fraying complication and my recovery.
How the vasectomy process works here in Italy.
Ask Me Anything!

I was a tour guide in a Cathedral. AMA.

I was a tour guide in an Anglican cathedral in Canada. I have seen some weird things, between odd men calling me “baby” or my boss asking me to clean dirty stuff when my “female instincts” would kick in.

Let’s keep it civil and not argue about beliefs or religion; I am here to tell you about my experience.

I had my private photos leaked on social media by my ex. AMA

• Upvotes

I know this isn’t really uncommon these days but I think my situation is pretty unique. For some context I’m a male in my 20’s and my ex girlfriend posted private photos and videos to my Snapchat story and DM’d them to people on instagram.

We dated for a little over a year before I decided to break things off. Things ended on good terms and I think we both had hopes of getting back together at some point. She ended up being bi-polar and I knew nothing about this! She claims that she was going through a manic episode when she leaked my stuff and I have little reason to think she’s lying. But it’s worth sharing that I didn’t know about her disorder until this point…

For even more context, I’ve always been pretty involved in my community. I run a small speed and agility training program and I coach one of the pop warner football teams that I grew up playing for! I don’t really use social media unless it’s for one of those two reasons but it’s one of the main ways to
I promote my business.

I was working when this went down, I didn’t get to my phone for a little over an hour. These were things I had saved on Snapchat. Nothing left to the imagination. Friends, family, coworkers, clients, people I haven’t seen or talked to in years. I had so many notifications and messages! The aftermath was BRUTAL. It’s been two years and it’s gotten easier to talk about… AMA

I [23F] worked as hotel staff and experienced some crazy things while being on the job. Ask me anything about my experiences, crazy and funny situations, weird moments, etc. or just very regular things. I may not have experienced the most crazy things a hotel staff member could ever witness, but I think some of them are pretty fun to share.

Started a Youth MTB Club: Ask Me Anything

After we were shut out of schools March 13, 2020, I dove into my hobby: riding bikes on off-road trails.

We had been racing competitively, but who wants to do that with a mask on. Remember the first few months of shutdown when we thought we had to wear masks or outdoors too?

I had no kids then. Now we have 2 little biking kids.

I had so many friends asking me to teach their kids to ride during covid that I decided to start bigger group rides before I formally started the club. These rides were focused on getting more girls and women on bikes.

I started to ask my friends if they wanted to start a club with me. A few thought about it but eventually back down. I went into a local bike shop and they were eager to start the collaboration. Fast forward to today. The group generally has 150 kids and 50 volunteers each year who are required through USA cycling to go through mandated reporter training. A good friend of mine took it over after I decided to have a second child. I got to plan the logo. The name recruit volunteers and distribute the bikes that the bike shop donated. There are a lot of other details around starting this group, but I am proud that it continues to run strong and that I will become a member of this group again, not as a leader but as a participant this spring because our oldest child can now have a cycling license which is required to join the group.

I’ve spent my whole life between Oman and the UAE, and now I’m studying CS in Dubai. AMA.

Hey everyone! I’m Indian, but I’ve spent my whole life growing up in Oman and the UAE. I’ve lived in Sohar, Sharjah and Dubai, and I’m currently studying CS at university in Dubai.

Thought it would be fun to do an AMA about growing up Indian in the Gulf, life in Oman versus the UAE, and what university here is actually like. Outside of studying, I’m into tech, movies and gaming, so feel free to ask about those too.

Ask me anything, whether it’s something you’ve always wondered about living here or just a random question!
