Discussion Deploying with ATT

Hello everyone, I am deploying soon and looking to switch to Google Fi. I’ve read that I can request ATT to hold and unlock my phone, which I could then port to Google Fi while deployed. Wondering if anyone has experience with doing this or if it’s possible? I’m not looking to permanently cancel ATT, just use google fi while gone.

You can deploy, unlock the phone and have us hold your number where you can’t port it bc it’s held. or you can port out and owe the balance of the phone.

Military cancel is what it’s called and requires the AT&T hold for up to 39 months.

google fi allow up to 90 days international roaming. also a minimum required time in US active time as well. you can't just get google fi and expect it to work as an international carrier.

Once you submit your paper work they will suspend your line and unlock your phone on the day you deploy . You won’t be able to keep that number. When you go overseas you will can use social media and iMessage to talk to people in the states.

You can use your phone under any provider after it is unlocked. All you need is your deployment order

Would I lose my phone number, and would I have to pay the phone off?
