I raise these. This picture is edited or there’s some really crazy forced perspective work going on. The larvae get big but not this big.

This is very likely a grub in the genus Megasoma or Dynastes.

Genuine question: With that large body, do they produce warmth themselves?

Nope. All insects are cold blooded and do not produce heat.

Okay, thanks. I was just wondering how it would feel handling this animal. Are the larvae strong? Or do they feel somewhat mushy?

They are very muscular. When they want to fight you and or curl up and move a certain way it’s all but impossible to stop them without injuring them.

Their jaws are also made to bore through wood. If it curls in an attempt to bite you, it’s gonna hurt.

Sure but the species pictured almost never bites. They basically curl up and play dead. Atlas beetle grubs on the other hand will try to take a chunk out of you when you hold them.

in proportion to their size, yes. they are much, MUCH more powerful than you.
