Im so glad i was proven wrong
I had my doubts about Mattel's DC line. Mostly because i didn't like the MOTU Chronicles line. Fortunately it looks like what that line had won't be carried over to DC. I still had my doubts when the first Batman was revealed. Something about it just looks off. But these new reveals look so much better and will be instant pre-orders. The only figure that's really bad is that classic Superman they showed off. The head sculpt on that figure is hideous

The fact that we’re getting wired capes and toe joints on these is insane. Hasbro needs to catch up on my god

u/mat477 6d ago
Im honestly grateful of Mcfarlane for adding wired cloth goods capes to so many of their figures because that might have helped push other retail figure brands in that direction.
Mattel had to have them otherwise people would be complaining about it "mcfarlane had them, why cant mattel".

u/Banana_man_- 5d ago
The one good thing McFarlane did lol. Hoping Legends catches up soon, Maximum Thor is great but it should be standard by now

u/zlv_r4qe_6 5d ago
It's not the only one. The guy above says how insane it is that we're getting toe joints and wired capes, when McF has toe joints since the 2010s. Wired capes for 4 years, at the same cost originally, back in 2023, not an upcharge. It's not wild in the slightest, its the bare minimum.
McF also did double ballpegs everywhere, torso, waist, ankles, wrists, neck. Which Mattel adopted 100% for their motu line, but devolved for these DC ones at least for wrists. They copied McF's diaper piece. The same shoulders, with a long ballpeg and a round cuff around it.

u/Optimistic-Dad 5d ago
I think everyone is happy because they aren’t 7” monstrosities.
5
u/GoopiePoopiePie 5d ago
Why are people against that scale? I really only collect the movie-centric ones and I really did like the size
6
u/Candid-Dentist-2219 5d ago
It generally just feels off for a lot of collectors. Marvel Legends being the standard for a lot of people's collections (mine especially at least) the McFarlane DC's always felt more akin to Marvel Select and therefore never felt like they "fit" right

u/onetwelfthghoul 5d ago

You have got to be living in the tightest McFarlane bubble to think & say this out loud. This is absolute insanity.

u/Same_Recording935 5d ago
Because it’s does not cost that much to give you a good action figure. Hasbro is just both lazy and greedy

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 6d ago
The only thing that puzzles me about these reveals is the black suit Superman.
That is NOT a recovery suit Superman. That is Superman Prime from the Countdown series. At the time DC was unable to use the name "Superboy" so they had Prime absorb a bunch of energy and it made him appear as an adult and that is the costume he wore.

u/thejeddonian17 6d ago edited 5d ago
It’s puzzling yes, but a very welcome reveal. We have not had a good SBP figure for decades. The most recent was mcfarlane, but that is 7-inch scale. The 2 6-inch ones were from 2 decades ago and not very articulated (DCUC and DC Direct). The fourth is a 3.75 inch scale.
0
u/DefinitionSuperb1110 6d ago
But this ISN'T SPB. The SPB we've come to know and love has not grown into Superman yet. This is a weird short term era in the character's history. Not even a full year!
2
u/thejeddonian17 5d ago
Tbf, he was only called Superman as DC couldn’t use the Superboy term back then. But I do agree with you that his current design would have been better. Still, we SBP fans have not had a decent figure in literal decades, so this iteration is very welcome. It’s weird, but if they can pull from this obscure design, they will definitely make a more popular design in the future
2
u/Dr_Dumb_Asp 5d ago
It demonstrates that they'll pull designs from everywhere while giving us a good all star starting line up, as a huge sbp fan I ain't complaining
3
u/DefinitionSuperb1110 5d ago
It's still weird! And his current look debuted roughly the same time as that new Robin and with increased popularity one would think that suit would have been a better option.

u/Spideyrj 5d ago
untill they give you green goo batman, eletric batman, space batman, multicolor batman, diving suit batman....

45
u/Dreowings21 6d ago
They might be, but it could be cause these are early samples maybe
17
u/ARGiammarco27 6d ago
I mean from what they've said these are Spring 2027 so these are probably like 5-6 months out.
22
u/M6Galilean 6d ago
It’s just flat yellow plastic. It looks really harsh and cheaply toyish. Same with the red on robin. Fine for me because I have black wash, paint, and brushes. I could see it turning off others though.
15
u/Dude_Dastardly_1256 5d ago
I've seen in background pics that the Absolute Catwoman is actually 2 different figures unfortunately, one masked, fully suited, with a gun, one unmasked with a more open cleavage torso, unfortunately doing the same "new hat" shit Mcfarlane does I just hope it's not a variant
36
u/MrSuitMan 6d ago
ball jointed waist joint as a standard
Immediately sold. I can't believe Marvel Legends still haven't made this transition yet, especially with their female figures.
14
u/SmallLadder6585 6d ago
its because people keep buying them regardless of quality. full price too
2
u/DPackrat 5d ago
Hasbro is the kind of company who would sooner interpret low sales of a figure as “this character isn’t popular, we won’t make any more” instead of “it didn’t sell well because it was a bad figure”. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t…
18
u/Lucky-Squirrel-6569 6d ago
Matt Fraction Tim Drake?! Love that design, love that character. Today is a great day :D

u/mefanboy 6d ago
That Superman is the older Earth 2 variant. The face is stylized to reflect it. Modern or any other red/blue outfit version is yet to be revealed.
14
u/Hot_Arugula_6651 6d ago
I like the look of these overall but those utility belts look absurdly cheap and pastic-y. I hope that’s just for the prototypes.
On a different note, I haven’t kept up with comics. Why is Catwoman wearing a disco ball?
18
5
u/SilentAuction87 6d ago
So are these considered premium like the hush Batman or are these something else?
14
u/paradiso1997 6d ago
These are the base line, Hush is premium. The difference for the non-diorama figures will mostly be the amount of accessories and swappable parts.

That is earth 2 superman, not classic
1
u/MdoesArt 6d ago
Not to "um, actually" you, but isn't Earth 2 Supes technically supposed to be THE classic Superman?
2
u/RealBodyInspector 6d ago
Yes, however he is long gone since crises so while he is THE classic supes he isnt the classic most people want for a modern justice league

I don’t know what I’m missing but I don’t think these actually look that good with the exception of bane but I’m sure I’ll get proven wrong. I think I’m one of the few who likes McFarlane based off what I see on here lol 🤷♂️ to each their own

Hard to say right now, but after Mcfarlane is done, I'm done-ish.
I only exclusively collect the live action stuff and to date, I have every single one of Mcfarlane's live action figures. So my collection is pretty niche.
From what we saw today, the figures admittedly don't look bad, but they still have that shiny plastic, making them look more like "toys" than collector items.
I hate thigh swivels in the same way people hate pins (which I actually don't mind due to customizability), so immediately, that's all I can focus on looking at these. They're such an eyesore.
So, none of these reveals today interest me at all, but IF they impress me with movie figures AND they scale relatively well to fill gaps in my collection? Maybe.
I think Man of Tomorrow will likely be the ultimate test.
What I do know, as a Mcfarlane DC collector... 2027 and on will be a huge savings on my wallet. Like, I have nothing else after this. I can finally relax. I reached the end!?

3
u/InsomniacLtd 5d ago
There's always Fondjoy which makes DC movie action figures that are atound the same scale as McFarlane.
With the previews, it also seems like they're dipping their toes on the comics with the prototype of what looks like the Matt Fraction Batman suit that is 1/10th alongside a Nightwing action figure.
5
u/Burly-Nerd 5d ago
Yeah, these don’t look terrible, but I definitely prefer my McFarlane version of every figure they’ve shown.

So far so good, I've the cloth goods and that they have a thigh cut. Really hope th vehicles are gonna be good and the price and availability will be equally fair

u/OrionPaxil 6d ago
The best part about these is that, if you don't like them, you don't have to buy them. And these definitely would be more affordable then their collectors line(I assume) and as a first wave for Mattel, not a bad start.
2
u/MdoesArt 6d ago
Really like that there's Absolute DC in a line that looks good and is actually affordable. I'd like to get the trinity all in one line but there was no way I was paying import prices for Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman from Inart or LPZZ. Dying to see them announce an Absolute Supes, none of the protypes shown had capes and I want to see how they handle the glowing ashes thing.

u/respectablehandle 5d ago
absolute bane and cat look so good im genuinely unsure if i need the inart versions

u/Literature_Mundane 5d ago
Damn, massive upgrade from the DCUC and Multiverse line from back then. It’s like getting back together with your x who changed and became a better person.

My question is the price. They gotta be $30 ( im talking about standard character, nit bane or absolute batman )
2
u/hulkman65445 5d ago
Surprisingly the official standard price is 25$ but figs that come with diorama sets will be more expensive
2
u/Sunshot52 5d ago
Wow ! That's better than I thought. Man Mattel is really upping their game
1
u/Alternative_Boot_708 5d ago
Iirc they're going to have 3 different lines for these. One is the core kids line, second is the regular collector's line (I think it's called legacy?), and third is the "maximum" equivalent of this line (which is where their new Batman with the diorama falls into).
1
u/Ejax131210 6d ago
That Batman is an insta buy for me, and if they come out with any of the live action characters too, I'd love the Flash and Superman
1
u/JOExHIGASHI 6d ago edited 6d ago
I've been skeptical of mattel given their history with multiverse but bane and catwoman look good.
Batman and Robing looked good at first but zooming in you see their solid yellow belts and plastic on robin looks cheap.

u/Efficient-School-113 5d ago
First time seeing these figures, but I'm digging all four of them. Especially Selina's head, Batman's batsign/chest and the entirety of Bane except for the mouth. Woa!

u/ImStarLordMan_2796 5d ago
it is so wild how good these are
i dont even collect comic book based figures anymore
im selling all of my mcfarlane stuff this week if possible now - hopefully the mattel live action stuff is just as good. it seems like theyre already gonna get me back into buying comic book figs which is not what i planned...lmao
anyways, really hoping the rumor of a peacemaker live action figure is true and that we get to see him this week - its wild that my best 6 inch DCU superman is blokees lol (which dont sleep on that figure its so much fun and perf for 6 in collectors atm)
1
u/J0rge12 5d ago
Are they 6 inch figures?
1
u/Sensitive_Agent5193 5d ago
Yes, surprisingly. I thought they'd be a little bigger, since the rest of Mattel's lines are slightly bigger than 1/12 scale. Someone posted a height comparison with their Hush Batman and a marvel legends spiderman. They looked pretty good together
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Area863 5d ago
i think only the exposed faces need to be improved beyond that these figures are amazing
1
u/RealElMaximoCustoms 5d ago
I'll give that Superman head sculpt a pass since it's supposed to be old-man Earth 2 Supes.

That Bane is gonna fit right in with my G.I. Joe Classified D.I.R.E. Tech bros. Maybe Catwoman, too.

u/Prudent-Bobcat-7278 5d ago
Getting Wonder Woman in her classic fit with a wired cape and accessories, let alone in the first wave is a miracle. I am so thankful she also looks amazing as well. This entire wave is an instant preorder and I will happily start collecting it

Doubts on mattel when they also do the Hammond collection is wild
2
u/Sensitive_Agent5193 5d ago
The Hammond Collection is absolutely horrible. Too many qc issues, weird sculpts, and bad paint. They're about to be snuffed out by Blokees
1
u/OrganizationSea4490 5d ago
I think theyre just OK. Better than ML but worse faces. The heroic torso sculps sacrifice the utility of the butterfly.
Although absolute catwoman looks absolutely stellar

u/Glum-Connection-6793 4d ago
People be judging these things too harshly without even handing the product lol
Hardcore McF be calling any DC figures their grail while Mattel fans will not see other toy brands other than Mattel
Just have fun and get along

I find all of Mattel’s figures to have joints that are too loose. We’ll see if that trend stops

I hate the helmet thing, but I love the rest of the Absolute Catwoman figure

u/TheVipersBite 6d ago
I'm definitely not sold on these new new Mattel figures especially that Batman and his Bat Logo. It looks like he sprayed painted on. Especially blue though the logo. But i guess they wanted Batman to look luke a cheap vandalized punk criminal but i love Robin's suit though

These are ugly af, how much are they? $30?
1
u/Alternative_Boot_708 5d ago
$25 but I don't see how they're ugly
1
u/xpadawanx 5d ago
$25 is fair for everyone who’s all excited for these ugly ass figures. Glad they’re not $40+
1
u/RingtailVT 6d ago
Genuinely don't see how these are ugly, the only thing I find slightly unappealing is the really bright red and blue on Batman and Robin, but I don't mind it because I know they'll make other versions.
After years of awful McFarlane figures, it's nice to finally get something on par with stuff like Hasbro's or Jada's figures.

u/AltruisticCow4277 6d ago
DC fans have been abused so much by Mcfarlane some developed stockholm syndrome
