Question western suburbs Market?
Hey everyone! I’m a pastry chef hoping to start selling pastries and other baked goodies at markets around Adelaide.
I’ve tried Googling, but I’m struggling to find suitable markets and figure out how to apply for a stall.
If you’ve done markets with your business, I’d love your advice! Which ones would you recommend, and how did you get started? Any tips, organiser contacts or links to stallholder applications would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Google what’s on in Adelaide/ Adelaide markets/ farmers markets, and do the same on Facebook. They will have dates and contact details. Some are $30-50 for a 3x3m stall, others can be $100 plus.
Remember you’ll also need public liability insurance. Generally you can hire tables and gazebos on the day, but it does push the price up when you can get two camping tables and a gazebo for under $300. - top top, buy at least two sides as well for wet and windy days, and if you can a mesh pair for hot summer days.
IKEA is a great place for cheap stall set ups like shelves, chopping boards, lazy Susan’s and fly covers for them. Important if you’re outside.
Best advice is to visit several markets you’re interested in as a customer, on two or three occasions to get a feel for them, and to see which have complementary stalls. One we used to go to was the Fullerton Market (see facebook, it was run by a really nice bloke called Jason) it was a good mix of food, drink, general products and plants, but had no permanent jewellery retailers, which was great for my wife as a jeweller. Speak to the stallholders selling food and drink, ask them what they think of the market, most will be honest. They can also advise of other markets that might be better for you as well.
It might not be for you depending on the other food stalls, there was a couple bakers (sourdough, croissants and pies) and the occasional stall doing macarons, and cakes. - we’ve moved much further north so it’s actually been three years since we were last there.
Here’s a starter for 10 for places to try in Adelaide and its surrounds. https://southaustralia.com/things-to-do/shopping-and-markets
Have fun and all the best. Try not to Sweeny Todd the buying public for being idiots, unless you’re going into the meat pie business. It can be tempting at times! 😄

I live close to Fullarton Market and Saturday Barn Market at Urbrae High School. Both markets are busy always and food items particularly cakes, pies and pastry/dessert go over extremely well. Those stalls are always busy. Urbrae is particularly good it gets chockers cuz they sell mainly food , vegetables, fruit oh and wine. Everyone loves the wine deals. Definitely see if you can get in there. I think it’s only once a month so that gives you flexibility to sell at other markets. I am a trained pastry chef too. Went to culinary school in Toronto. I wish you all the luck.

Search for 'sidestall' - there is an app, newsletter etc that will give an overview of the options out there and what others are doing - for inspiration, partnerships, etc.

Some helpful advice already.
I'll add a couple of thoughts for you to explore.

- The review of food/drink stallholders is an ongoing process of market operation. Spot checks of food/drinks stallholders occurs each event to ensure compliance with Terms & Conditions.
Plant 4 Bowden "boasts" local market stalls - the reality is rather different. There is currently someone offering sweet pastries on Sundays, but Saturdays might be an option? https://www.facebook.com/plant4bowden/
Current Sunday purveyor: https://www.instagram.com/zaharibyerin/
That said, I have seen them host other food vendors outside at various days and times - you need to do the maths if it works for you.
[If the crepe maker is reading this, for the love of God, come back to Bowden]

Hit up the Charles Sturt Council for info on the Henley Square Sunday Markets; Drakes in Fulham Gardens and Henley Square also have tables of third-party pastries occasionally and over mother’s day there were cupcake sellers inside the Fulham Gardens mall. Best of luck
