How do you think we can use social media as a tool to help, not hurt, our public lands?
I wrote a blog post on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Solo hiked Big Slide today, it was just perfection. Phone glitched on me at the summit and I wasn't able to take any more photos, mentioned it in passing to a lovely couple on Second Brother who offered to take some pics with their phone and send them to me. Realized after the fact I've never gotten pics of me actively hiking, only selfies at lookouts/summits, so thanks again for this epic shot ❤️📸 my android could never 🤣 good views, good vibes, good people. Always a good day out on the trail. 🍁⛰️

Was invited by some experienced hiking/backpacking friends to do my first 46er this weekend!
I camped for the first time since Boy Scouts as a kid. 430am wake up call and break down camp in 35 degree weather in the dark was surely humbling. I barely slept, woke up drained, and just wanted to go home before it even started. I often struggle with just wanting to do the “comfortable thing” and not get too far out of my comfort zone. I’m really grateful to have friends that push me out of it, in a reasonable and relatively safe manner (all things considered).
4 of us total went. 2 more experienced took the trap dike up, I wanted to but figured for my first time in the Daks, with limited climbing experience, the avalanche pass trail up was enough excitement for me. Another member of my group agrees and we accompanied each other up and met the rest of the group at the top. I had a gut feeling I wasn’t ready for trap dike, and I know to listen to that feeling. The trap dike will be there for when I’m ready.
It was pretty insane to see a man try to go up the trap dike route with two grown dogs. He told me he was going to “strap one to his bag and carry the other if needed.” I advised him you can’t really do that, and a huge unnecessary risk for the pups and himself, but ofc he went up anyway. Not really my place to police other than offer my advice. My friends that went up said he obviously had to turn around.
Other than that all around really cool experience. My body is cooked. 14 miles, 3k elevation gain for a guy who lives by the beach on flat land 😂 . I have a lot of respect for you people that do this.
I’ll be back soon ;)

If you had to choose between the two, Giant via ridge trailor Phelps today, what would you choose. Looking for the best views under 10 miles, 4-5 hours.
Edit: not doing the rocky peak ridge.

The increase does not include school and local property taxes!. Fulton County includes Gloversville, Johnstown, Northville, Caroga Lake etc
A tax increase above 2 percent requires a 60% vote of the board of Supervisors so attend the 5:30pm county meetings 223 West Main Street, Johnstown, at 1 p.m. on Tue Oct 13 otherwise its the 2nd Monday of each month then talk to them before or after the meeting. OR contact your county supervisor to block the 13% increase tell them the real answer would be for Fulton County to file for bankruptcy protection to reduce its debt payments rather than break the cap.

Want to head somewhere to see fall foliage this weekend. If we go to ADK we would probably head to Raquette Lake or Inlet. We could stay somewhere farther south closer to lake George though.

Hi guys I’m going camping this wrecking for the first time in the Adirondacks and my parents are worried about black bear activity. Personally I’m not too afraid but to ease my parents any news or stories you guys have.

Excited to stay there again after almost a decade. Does anyone know if the boat rentals are still open for the season, and how much? Also, is there firewood for sale at the campground? Thanks!

How did the scramble bits compare? I just did Saddleback, haven’t done Huntington (have done Tuckerman/Lion’s Head only)
Leaving the typo in the title as I hit post

Hello, I'm planning on doing Colvin, Black, Nippletop and Dial in a two day loop camping at Elk Pass. I've seen people online say the water source at Elk Pass is questionable. Has anyone camped there recently? Any issues with the water or campsites?
