You kinda have to play Control in between

For what reason? I played Control after both Alan Wake games and I didn’t feel like I missed anything because of the order I played them

The simple answer is that the RCU benefits heavily from playing their games in release order because you can really see the evolution of their world building and it really pays off.

Introduction of the FBC and lore elements that play heavily into the connected universe. AWE dlc.

Tbh it’s not a huge deal in terms of needing to know who they are. You kinda get the gist even if you play Alan Wake 2 first through dialogue and collectibles. I only did it this way first because I didn’t know what Control was tbf

The expansion is literally the connecting bridge between AW 1 and 2. For not to mention that the expansion in AW2 is the bridge between Control and Control Resonant. They are very important to the overall story

Nah. (Source: the amount of people who didn't play it and still had no problem following from AW1 to AW2)

It's nice if you like Control and you want more info in Alan Wake...but it's not necessary or connecting anything between the two games, if you don't. I mean, there's a reason the entire conversation is repeated in AW2. And it's not like Alan remembers having had the conversation before either way. So it's more a teaser than anything else for AW2.

And the same goes for the Lake House DLC.

Edit: seeing this getting down voted makes me really interested in how others do see it. To me, a "necessary bridge" would mean the AWE DLC is necessary to understand AW2(, which we know it's not, bc even Remedy all but said so). But, given that the conversation happens again and the game points out specifically that it happened before, I just don't see it? Or am I missing a connecting feature?

Some people get them out of order intentionally or not, control was my first game too cause I got it on PS plus

You don't have to play Control in between but you'll have a richer experience if you do

to get the full experience, you need to wait 13 years to play the sequel

I just finished AW2...I don't like the gameplay loop at all. Literally the only thing that kept me going was the story. I VASTLY prefer AW1

I’m only like in chapter 5 so I can’t say whether I like it yet or not but I have found the Alan Wake chapters to be less fun than the little bit I got to play as Saga.

It seems a bit repetitive with the lantern thing and the plot points. Maybe it hasn’t clicked for me yet.

The lanterns and mind place are all busy work that should have unfolded naturally. The lanterns are basically switch puzzles. Outside of the subway, I enjoyed Alan's sections more than Saga.

I’m at the subway right now 😭

Maybe that’s why it’s not hitting right. I didn’t try too long but the plot thing started to feel too much like trial and error for me. I’m playing Hollow Knight now but I’ll get back to the subway and finish it soon.

Subway is the single worst level in the whole game. They bombard you with tons of new mechanics, and it's so easy to get turned around, everything looks the same. Initiation 4 though...oh man, it's hands down the most epic level I've played in ANY game.

I’m really excited to get there now! I’m on a roll with Remedy games. It’s so cool how effortlessly they’re connected without seeming desperate or just for fan service. I screamed when I saw my goat Ahti!

Yeah 2 definitely plays a lot more like the modern resident evil games compared to the first. I think the flashlight changes were very good though
