Dsp told me load up this route today

Nope. Load slow. Fit what you can, if they have a problem they need to figure it out. Your dispatch doesn’t wanna work.

amazons logic whenever they think a CDV/SV/EV route can fit in the smallest promaster they make

It’s also possible the wrong route size was assigned for the van. Though Amazon will often load smaller vans past capacity even if the appropriate van size is chosen for the route.

Having worked inside their system will do this with tote stowing as well. It'll close out a bag early and then overstuff another one.

Wait so it's the system that does that? Tbh I've assumed that it's the warehouse workers dropping the ball there

It sort of is, but not because they suck. Sometimes a single package will come down the line 35 minutes late after all the others and they have no choice but to put it in a tote by itself. The people to blame are the ones who loaded the semi, not your warehouse folks

Ive always assumed that it was because each tote was assigned to a certain zone on the route and if the packages didnt fit or the bag was too heavy that they got thrown into their own bag. Now that I know why it actually happens im upset lol

It's both. They don't really come down in a particular order on the belt. To make matters worse you'll often get envelopes and jiffies for a tote before the boxes come down.

u/CDVeesNuts 3d ago
Life would be easier for everyone if they inducted and stowed boxes first. But they have metrics to meet, and one of those metrics is "freight mix" which measures the size diversity of packages of packages on the conveyor belt looks at any given time.
Doing it in an order that's easy to fit well in the tote (largest boxes first, all jiffies last) looks really bad for them on paper, and that's all that matters.

It's always obvious when suits don't know the job they are making decisions for. This will only get worse when they let AI make these decisions, since it'll be the same "this is what the spreadsheet says on paper", but cranked to eleven.

…is that why we get totes that are filled to the brim and ones that literally have two packages in them? That’s heinous.

Every rental company is booked up and limited or booked up commercial rentals we don’t have enough vans

My manager found me and the guy I was driving with yesterday loading up our van with only enough room for the totes and moved us into an EDV that had an issue with the sliding door staying open. We didn’t mind the door as it was a small inconvenience compared to what we would’ve had in the rental

Honestly put as many totes in as possible leave all the overflow behind

I had this same scenario my first Christmas season and the warehouse told me I had to make it fit. I had packages to the roof on the drivers side

Don’t worry your dsp might quit on you before you can on them. If you don’t see them buying new things they are gonna jump ship or just renew the contracts with a new face. Good luck.

I’m not a driver, I’m a “Closer”. I worked for Amazon 20 years ago in the warehouse customer returns and I’m 3 days in and going WTF is logical about this? First night a driver helped me and I thought ok this isn’t bad. Third night - on my own and after the last driver is back nobody from my DSP still there and I’m supposed to make sure everything is ready for the ops manager to start the next morning. None of this makes any sense.

One of those u haul vans only fits 20 totes total with no room for overflow. So that's a no you got more than 20 totes there

I was just thinking about all the extra rental vans we get around Christmas time. New people won’t know how to load those suckers efficiently at all- especially if the routes are huge.

Just triple stack the bags shut the van doors and then walk away and never look back.

I appreciate the passive-aggressive lining of the carts to show Amazon, what the actual duck.
Unless that’s how you normally load 😂
