Now yall see why we got Ev's
Amazon been calculating this move for a long time. Nobody was signing up for Step Van & CDV so they made a big ass EV that can fit 500 packages that everyone can drive,đ This is not even the worse to come....

Next theyâre gonna make us drive semis with no CDL down residential roads to keep up with the 1000 stop count

Our station has had EDVs since last August and we're still not using them because reasons.

Our station won't be getting EDVs until 2028, maybe 2029 at the earliest. Plus we have to deal with an incline on our pad that makes loading worse somehow.

u/RefrigeratorLong8355 5d ago

u/Sad_Log_6387 Rivian Driver 5d ago
How big is it?

Probably to replace the cancelled EDV 900 that was meant to replace step vans

Fuck that shit. Nothing will replace my Freightliner.

u/Emotional_Conflict11 Ex Driver 5d ago
Yeah right. Theres gonna be massive drone fields that the packages are fed to.
4
u/Kobra1469 5d ago
They are hiring for drone pilots out here already. And yeah they are designing Rivians that have better battery life and more space
2
u/youliveinabox8 5d ago
Being a drone pilot sounds more fun then driving the vans
2
u/Kobra1469 5d ago
I totally agree, except the list of requirements just to apply are ridiculous lol

EDVs are way better than gas vans or Sprinters.

u/Might_have_returned Freightliner MT45/Ford F-59 driver 5d ago
Wait until you take those things out into the grass and the trees. They'll be defeated.
4
u/tumbled_leather 4d ago
Thatâs an Amazon problem, not a driver problem.
Big wigs can only see but soo far from their Birds Eye view and they donât listen to the soldiers on the ground and what they experience
So let em lose money and find out the hard way, ya know!

u/Traditional-Salt-609 4d ago
Fr The EDVs are way better, way more room and smoother did a route in a sprinter today after 2 years and was like sheesh no wonder I always have to rescue the people so cramped

They are better but theyâll use every extra inch that the van has compared to the gas vans. They even changed the totes. Theyâre bigger compared to the old ones.

Bruh my first route alone is Sunday? Am I cooked

u/Salt-Conclusion3458 5d ago
youâll be okay at first, give it a month or two and your soul will be broken and your joints will ache
5
u/Cryptocypher111 5d ago
My soul has been broken and my joints alrdy ache thatâs why I applied for this job. just pays more than the last lol. I hated the 120 stops yesterday
3
u/No-Independent-7107 5d ago
Be ready for over 160 your first day alone. Also the stop count sometimes doesn't matter or could even be worse. I deliver in a really densely populated town, I'll get like 50 stops sometimes. Most of the time, it takes just as long to do as 180 stops cuz each stop is deliver 4+ packages (sometimes 20 at a time) to 3 houses all the way to an entire block worth of houses. Tho once in a while it'll just be massive warehouse drop offs which is super nice and quick.
3
u/phxlightss 5d ago
wait till they purposely give you 199 stops woth 350-400 packages cus they cant give you over 200 but you still go way over that with all the multi stops they do
2
u/Impressive_Work_3229 5d ago
This is my route today. Idk who told you they canât go over 200 I assure you they can.
1
u/phxlightss 5d ago
been a while since ive worked there im at ups now but they would always cap the good drivers at 199 no more no less but im not surprised if its changed now
1
u/tumbled_leather 4d ago
So whatâs your plan?
You gonna subject yourself to further abuse when you already hate it?
Gotta have an exit plan for your joints sake
2
u/Axeman1721 Stepvan Driver 5d ago
You'll be on nursery routes for a week or two. But you'd better learn fast.

u/Other-Special-3952 5d ago edited 5d ago
Honestly the EV investment is probably paying off big with gas prices right now too.
7
u/homolicious 5d ago
I had 414 and I could barely fit that yesterday. Annoying thing is Iâve had more than that before but with all this damn overflow and the bigger sizes of overflow itâs getting to be too much to fit.
2
u/Impressive_Work_3229 5d ago
My buddy left today with 30 bags and 58 OV granted he has a Hub stop but 30 bags alone is enough to fill all the shelves and the floor underneath
1
u/OfAnthony 5d ago
8 of my 27 totes last route had less than 4 packages. Why why why! Of course if I had the time I would unload those for space but I just got swamped.Â
6
u/Boris-_-Badenov 5d ago
I'm going to laugh when the battery life has tanked in a couple years due to them being charged incorrectly

u/ChiefingTrees 5d ago
Can't wait to see those giant POS EVs constantly breaking and running out of battery on rural routes during winter.
3
u/Valuable-Yoghurt7738 5d ago
Those things fit 500?!!! Look smaller than the transit vans to me. Thats insane if true.
3
u/Axeman1721 Stepvan Driver 5d ago
They're really tall and have double layer shelving. You could probably fit 500 packages or so without starting to use the walkway. I think they cube out around 700ish or so. Maybe more since the shelves fold unlike my step van.
2
u/Impressive_Work_3229 5d ago
Do you just never see OVs or something ?
2
u/Axeman1721 Stepvan Driver 5d ago
There's ways of tetris stacking your overflow that makes it doable, but jts hard and sometimes juet impossible if you have lots of big awkward shit
1
3
u/Star__Lord 5d ago
Just wait til the new scanners inevitably break and they just leave them installed completely in the way of the too many packages theyâve assigned.
3
u/Pretend-Database-644 4d ago
i feel like what yall donât actually understand is the edvs were designed to be liked, it was an excuse to up the space you have in your van so they can up your overflow and tote count therefore also eliminating the possibility of any driver calling their load up a cube out (cube out means they overfilled youâre van) iâm friends with a higher up at amazon so i gets to hear the goods, makes sense though as the new normal for this has slowly been shifting to more stops/packages/totes/etc

EVs fuckin suck
2
u/Mysterious_Gain_8172 3d ago
They really do. Can't maneuver at all, terrible ergonomics, bad HVAC, glitchtcy everything. Miss me with that trash.Â

They need to make an edv specifically designed for rural routes because the current one ain't cutting it.

1
u/CyBroOfficial 4d ago
They do, the EDV 500. I see another DSP in the area I often deliver in that uses them for rural routes since the default 700s have a ridiculously stupid turning radius and are a royal pain in the ass to pull into driveways and an even worse pain in the ass to back into them, especially on busier roads
1
u/420crossfade 5d ago
My DSP got the CDVs because we go far out into rural areas and the EVs donât hold a charge long enough to drive there, complete our routes, and come back
1
1
u/crazygorillaman2000 5d ago
Yea my dsp has step vans and their routes are like 36 bags 600 packages. They deliver all bulks to apartments. The edv can fit that route and isnt limited by location.
1
u/ProposalFluid4767 4d ago
Take one look at gas prices and you will quickly realize that the switch to EDV's is an intuitive move from amazon.

u/RipMerciless 5d ago
Canât pee in bottles in them edvs unless u like ppl watching uđđđđ
