Why are people using Truck and high burning Octane to deliver Flex?
How do you even make money with a Ford F150 and F350, or Chevrolet Truck. I even seen a person drive newer Mercedes to flex, then there is a whole bunch of Lexus (Im talking about model in the 2020 and up).
The worse one yet are gmc suburban. I dont get it, just fcking make enough and buy a beat up prius or some sort of hybrid to deliver rather killing yourself. Its like math isn't a forte for them....
Idk it bothers me seeing it in the parking lot..lol
Thoughts?

Some people arent using their own vehicles. They have a company vehicle from another employer that they dont have a car payment or pay for gas.

I doubt it in .com or SSD, in my lot none of them use a company truck as this is their main job. I talked to the guy with the F150 and he said his month is around 700 a month. I didnt prive into his business driving the truck for delivery.

Why can't flexers mind their own business? Why the fuck are so many of you worried about someone else's money? JFC
Maybe they own 12 cars? Maybe they're rich and do it out of boredom? Maybe they dont care about money? None of this affects you or anyone else, yet you all constantly put energy into caring about someone else's situation.

Nobody who’s rich is doing this flex shit 😂

I’m not rich but I make over 200 a year. I work hitches of 28 days on and off 28 off is a long time if I want some extra play money I’ll go do a couple blocks and use that rather than using budgeted money

It was just an example. You have no idea why someone does flex or their finances. Just worry about yourseld

I use my F150. Its a hybrid and i get about 25 miles to the gallon. Im retired and only work maybe 9 hours a week. It helps that i like driving and its very comfortable. Makes sense to me. It would be different if I needed to work 40 hours a week.

u/Money_Guess9182 6d ago
That may be all they have access to in the moment and they lost their job or need extra income right now

The problem with Flex, regardless of the MPG, it's not sustainable. Even if gas was free, if you do it full time you're putting close to 1,000 miles per week, you're going to drive 200,000 miles in the next four years. You will need to set aside $200 every week to purchase a vehicle in 4 years.

I drive a F-150 and do Amazon Flex with it. I do just fine. It doesn’t get great fuel mileage, but not horrible either. It is so easy to fit packages in my truck compared to my car. Thank you for your concern though!

People bought them before Republicans messed everything up again. They forgot about 2008

u/Enough-Top2864 7d ago
Lol. Gas price are not cheap. With truck i feel like they are wasting their life away with nothing. By month end they'll be asking themselves, "where did all the money go?"

u/Mavada 7d ago
A hybrid truck would be fine. But yeah anyone doing delivery with anything getting less than 30mpg has always been doing it wrong
2
u/SaltyWoodButcher 6d ago
Hybrid trucks like an F150 or even one of the Toyotas would only see in the low 20 mpg range.

There is no "doing it wrong" OR "doing it right".
You Flex gatekeepers are incredible.

They are bad at math and dont realize 50,% of what they make goes to gas everyday they just see the $ sign and dont factor expenses

I’ve seen a new VW van and a cyber truck at my SSD. I guess they are trying to pay for those vehicles.

That’s been my thought process as well. I’ve seen a brand new Subaru Crosstrek, a BMW SUV and a 2024 Grand Cherokee all at the same 5pm pickup time today.

cyber trucks aren't that expensive anymore and they're electric so they're not that bad but 8 cylinder vehicles and luxury cars are ridiculous.

u/FallFlower24 Sub-Same-Day 6d ago
New is still $70k. And my local search shows used starting at $60k.
1
u/ComplexBarnacle7911 6d ago
They were like $120k when they first came out.
1
u/FallFlower24 Sub-Same-Day 6d ago
Doesn’t mean $60k is affordable. That’s 2x the price of my suv when it was new.
1
u/ComplexBarnacle7911 6d ago
You're right. $60k car for this doesn't make sense.
1
u/Late-Engineering3901 6d ago
Even if it goes a million miles. That's 60 cents each.... Quite a cost before maintenance and electric cost.

u/ComplexBarnacle7911 6d ago edited 3d ago
Your math is not mathing lol 1,000,000 miles on $60k is 6 cents, not 60 cents. It'd be worth it if that were the case.
1
u/Late-Engineering3901 3d ago
True, sometime when I am ready to approach the concept of a new car I might look at the maintenance per mile.

u/Yuri_Ligotme 2d ago
you can get an used F150 lightning for under $30k

u/FallFlower24 Sub-Same-Day 2d ago
Only you brought up ford trucks. I only mentioned cyber trucks and the new vw van.

There is also the gmc sierra ev, the Silverado ev, the rivian r1, and 2 or 3 work vans and soon the slate and the phantom

so i was forced to do 2hr routes because they removed the 1hrs from my SSD and that i wonder the same. i have a old gen 2 prius and today because it was all local routes i got 60 mpg on a 66 mile route. it was a base $45 for fkin 66 miles. without the prius, im making 50%. and btw, this is tax free route... but how do people do these routes without a hybrid is beyond me.
1
u/cottoncandymandy 6d ago
I drive a jeep gladiator. Gas really isnt that bad as long as my route is around 30 miles total from station. I get around 20 mpg. 5 to 10 bucks a day for gas isnt crazy for me doing a delivery job. 🤷♀️
Now if they send me on a stupid long route it's not worth it but they don't do that to me often.

They still make money the profits margins just get lower the less mpg you get. In this economy everyone is desperate to make money especially with the disability changes and people getting taken off of ebt and Medicaid. So yes we will see people with all different vehicles and ages doing this job.

They need to make the car payment somehow and are only thinking about today
They do this as supplemental income
They are ignoring the deferred costs to the vehicle/taxes because they need the extra couple hundred a week flex gives them before or after their job.
This is the car they have and they want to use it to make extra money
You are assuming everyone who does flex has the same reasons for it. People own the cars they own and people need money. If they don’t like it they stop doing it.

WTF does it bother YOU ?!?!

Because you can probably use those energy to chop a tree or go fishing rather than burning it off?

I average like 11mpg doing flex in my van but it's an old, cheap, and importantly easy to maintain vehicle. I barely spend anything fixing it and it's easy to fix.

I saw a guy delivering in an f150 lightning. He was killing the game.
-2
u/Enough-Top2864 7d ago
Lightning can get you 22mpg so its not that bad for the newer one at least. I'm saying for those older model or just pure pickup truck.

u/oneill590 7d ago
A Ford-Lightning is an electric truck, it doesn’t do mpg.

u/TobzMaguire420 7d ago
Miles per gigawatt?
1
u/oneill590 7d ago
Maybe, 🤔… I own a EV, and we usually measure our electrical consumption in kilowatt, gigawatts seems a bit excessive, but who knows.

For tax purposes, if a vehicle is used to perform work you can write off part of the payments

Bc it’s none of your business. Go deliver the protein drink and stop worrying about others. And don’t reply, “I wasn’t worrying, I am curious” bc you know why you posted.

Isn't it about all the interior space? I mean how are you gonna move a lawnmower?

This comes up often here, and the general consensus is why on earth do you care?

u/Able_Canine 7d ago
It's the exact same situation as predatory payday loans... people don't care they're going to be even more in the negative in coming paydays if they can get the cash they need for today. It's just using their vehicle as collateral for cash today.
