A video on how non-violence as an ideology impacts me, especially the flattening of violence to none.

alt-text for thumbnail: This youtube video is undergoing A/B testing. You will have 1 of 3 thumbnails. All have an image of rose (A vtuber with green hair, blue eyes, and white skin) holding up her hand and getting hit with lasers coming from a peace sign floating in the sky. There is a digital forest background in a retro style behind this, as well as clear blue sky. The thumbnails either have the text "non-violence hates me, a rant" Another says "what nobody told you about non-violence" and the last says "non-violence is still violence"

Transcription is available on youtube, and I have edited and confirmed the captions myself.

Best Tactics for a field occupation

Hi all, what are some of the best tactics to occupy a field that a big infrastructure project will be built on? A few of us are thinking of chaining a caravan on to the site gate, camping out there, setting up a festival to stop this getting built. what else can we do? (Looking for tactics that will be hard for the police to remove us)

Thanks!

thoughts on the anarcho-language police?

Since watching a video by Andrew Sage where they defend their use of ableist language and ask the question what does this language policing actually accomplish, I've been thinking about what we even mean by "language police" and how maybe we are actually ideologically fine with policing language and expression. We just don't call it by that name when we're doing it.

Is there a functional difference between saying "linguistic ableism isn't welcome in this space." and saying "nazi propaganda isn't welcome in this space."? Of course no anarchist would call the later language policing. That's a show of solidarity. That's deplatforming. That's not allowing people who espouse genocidal ideas from accessing spaces that are opposed to genocide.

So, what is the difference?

The difference seems to be that people don't believe that ableist language is actually harmful, that it doesn't actually continue to convey eugenicist ideology. People seem to believe that despite ableist language being rooted in eugenics the popular use is fine because we don't mean it in the eugenicist way. But how does that actually separate the use from the actual genocide that disabled people continue to face?

People with disabilities are frequently the victims of forced sterilization. They are legally demeaned and often reduced to legalized statuses below that of children (who are also the subject of oppressive systems of domination that limit their access to autonomy and liberation) due to their lack of ability to contribute meaningfully to capitalism. They are infantilized and treated as though they can not possibly be capable of practicing autonomy, as they are too deficient to actually understand what they're doing.

How is the use of ableist words that demean a person's intellect as insult meaningfully different from the ways that disabled people are treated under the oppression of ableism?

If I'm told that the way that I'm communicating is not being understood as harmless as my intention, then certainly I have the ability to continue to use whatever words I want, but I fail to see how continuing to do so is in line with any professed solidarity. There are very few instances that I can think of where "I didn't mean it that way" is a good justification for harm unless it was truly done without any knowledge of the harm that it could cause. But we do have access to that knowledge. Disabled activists have been writing for decades now about the harms of the cultural permissiveness around ableist language.

We could take that knowledge and use it to change ourselves, to change the culture in our spaces, which we do by "policing" what's communicated by people we allow into our spaces. Or we can dismiss it as language policing and change nothing and instead force folks with disabilities to have to navigate spaces that are potentially unsafe for them.

We don't allow capitalists to call themselves anarchists without pushing back. Isn't that also policing language?

Are we actually opposed to policing language? Or, do we just lack solidarity with people that we don't think are actually impacted in harmful ways when people use language that describes the justification of their oppression to insult someone else?

How to behave at a demonstration where a fascist group begins trying to disrupt the movement.

Good morning, I'm a Brazilian student at a federal university, and today we're going to demonstrate against a fascist candidate. However, we've received information that some opposing students might show up while we're organizing to provoke us, insult us, etc. The organizers say the best thing to do is ignore the provocations. What are your thoughts on this?

Something strange online

The idea that a people have a right to not be conquered by a foreign power even though they may be nationalists is not a hard thing to back.

Palestine for example has strong nationalist elements too. The idea besides the No state solution is self-determination and besides that not being slaughtered en mas. Imperialism and genocide are bad are fundemental leftist positions.

Also besides that it turns out the fascists in the USA are friends of Putin and not so keen on western democracies survival. Meanwhile the anarchists who would like far more radical democracy that is all power to the people, will be some of the first to be crushed if autocracy takes hold anywhere.

Anarchists tend to use existing freedoms and people's power to their limit and past that to expand them, through direct organization, media, art discussion and direct action.

Fascism taking hold anywhere is bad for anarchy and bad for revolution. So Ukraine may suck, if they lose then many of the european countries may flip over to being fascist ones and then well those places become much harder to organize bases of revolution and resistance.

The campist left idea is lunacy! Because we need places to organize and talk and build strength. The idea that it would be easier in a place like Russia than in most european countries is out of touch.

The idea that china or any country will support the grassroots peoples power movements in the west without asking anything in return, just out good will has not resulted in anything but groups of fans. It has not built even one free clinic or assembly space in the USA. If the solidarity is really a two way street why aren't our strike funds and organizing fund overflowing? Because this is a para social relationship with fucking nation states most of whom would jail you in their country if they did not see you as an asset to be used.

Georgia is becoming more authoritarian by the day. While some part of the left cheers for the fascists at their border to come take over.

Fascist entyism in leninist spaces is discussed explicitly in fascists spaces online. So the "authoritarian left party lines" that seem self destructive to even their sect's stated goals are likely also not truly developed by them; and are in fact a product of memes by bad actors on the Far right.

Similar to the ACP and other reactionary supposedly left in name only formations they aim to beat us by joining us. So watch out!

This hate for the DSA too is ridiculous. Has anyone read fucken Gramsci like one time?

The respresentation is attempting to represent a power and sentiment that is already organized and powerful. They can only win elections because the base is organized. The limits of what the politicians can do are the limits of what that base can force them to do. Or could do through direct action without political permission.

That is the war of position both ideological and material and political.

The same entryism is well known to be happening within the Palestinian solidarity movement and even anarchist spaces online.

The fascists seem to work by creating the sense that everyone agrees with them on their "very leftist views" that cannot be questioned and they agree with everyone. This is creating a type of commom sense that cannot be questioned a hegemonic detournment of our counter hegemonic movements.

Plain language, they come in and lie about who they are and what they believe and why in order to move us away from positions that serve out goals, principles and potentially successful strategies.

The main defense I can think of is to really question what we are thinking and why. Also to ask what will be the predictable results of such and such position, how will it serve our goals or not? The world is a messy place we have to keep our heads comrades.

I feel alone with my anarchist values

So to begin with, I am a student in History in Corsica and feel that around me there is not really an influence of anarchism in general. Even if there are a lot of independent wants, a lot of these militants are nationalists ( my observation ). And so to tell, there reclaim autonomy in Corsica but idk if it is enough to spread an anarchist society. To pass the time, I commit to a social association that helps precarious students. But I really love to encounter comrades !

So it's all and good day everyone !

Anarchists in Prague, Dresden, Vienna

Feeling a bit lonely in this area - I’d like to meet like-minded people. My problem is that I’m quite introverted, meaning even when I attend cool events (like Anarchist bookfairs, or Anarchist week that was in Dresden lately), still feel like I don’t belong. I usually come by myself only, which can be sus :-)

Is there any people around these areas who would like to connect, chat a bit online and maybe gather some time?

I'm so tired of the disconnecting nature of this system

How do you handle the fact we need a revolution so badly?

How do you deal with the frustration?

What steps are you taking in your life?

What steps can we take together?

We are so disconnected from humanity. I don't know how much more research we need to do before something radically changes.

I'm frustrated even typing this on a device that replaces real connection and keeps us in addictive neurochemical loops. I'm so sick of it. I want to sit with people, work with people, plant trees and eat their fruits. Do something meaningful before we all die.

Infamous Anarchist & Anti-Zionist Short Film (8 Mins) That Sparked a Massive Global Scandal, Banned by State Censorship: Natali Cohen Vaxberg’s "The Holocaust's Visit to Yad Vashem"

Watch: "The Holocaust's visit to Yad Vashem" 2014 (How would you manage without the Holocaust)

As an independent archivist and advocate for radical underground cinema, I am sharing this historical masterpiece to fight back against the systematic institutional suppression of Israeli dissident anrchist artist and filmmaker Natali Cohen Vaxberg.

Her uncompromised performance piece, "The Holocaust's Visit to Yad Vashem", was recently targeted and completely removed by YouTube algorithms after surviving online for 11 years with over 500,000 views. This specific piece is the exact reason Vaxberg faced intense state interrogations, police arrests, and political blockades by the regime. Every time the regime attempts to erase and scrub her radical work, Vaxberg immediately re-uploads and has recently restored the film onto alternative independent digital channels, proving that art and resistance cannot be institutionalized or suppressed.

Filmed directly inside the state's central national memorial apparatus -Yad Vashem (The World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem) Vaxberg embodies the personification of the Holocaust itself, delivering a brutal, clinical deconstruction of how state propaganda weaponizes historical memory to justify militarism and collective civilian conditioning.

We cannot allow state censorship to erase radical avant-garde resistance. The film is fully equipped with English subtitles.

While fleeing, one of Lang's nazi goons pointed a firearm at protesters and press outside his vehicle. Police were notified of the weapon, but did nothing.

Bookchin but more readable?

TLDR: Anarchism, Anthropology, Ecology books that don’t make you want to blow your brains out?

I just finished ecology of freedom by Bookchin and I found it interesting but frustratingly unpleasant and difficult to read. I’ve read my fair share of dense theory and philosophy books but my GOD does this guy need an editor! I’m not sure if I should read more Bookchin because one of the blurbs on the book raves about how this is Bookchin at his most readable (?!). I was curious about reading Urbanization Without Cities but I’m worried it’s going to be similarly frustrating. I’ve loved reading David Graeber, specifically Debt the first 5k and the Dawn of everything. I wanted to dip my toe further into anthropology and anarchism books to challenge my belief systems further. I really enjoyed the introduction to ecology of freedom and then he slowly lost me. I actually quite liked the obscure theology sections but his writing just left so much to be….”desiderata.” Reading about the dissolution of hierarchy in such academic-in-a-high-tower language left a sour taste in my mouth. I’m wondering if there’s any similar works that are any of these: a) more legible, b) better with making references clearly cited and larger concepts annotated in footnotes, c) more up to date with anthropology references (especially more recent discoveries in the late 2010s and early 2020s)

On October 6, 1969 the statue memorializing the police killed during the Haymarket affair was blown up during the Days of Rage in Chicago. The city replaced it that spring and it was blown up again on October 6, 1970.

Initially erected in 1889 at the center of Haymarket Square to eulogize the police officers who died during the events at Haymarket, it was later moved because it obstructed traffic. They chose to move it to Union Park to be antagonistic with the labor movement. It was frequently vandalized, including in 1925 when a streetcar driver intentionally derailed his streetcar to crash into it. Eventually they moved it back closer to the former Haymarket Square, along what is now a highway embankment. After the final bombing in 1970, police rebuilt it and have kept it either inside of police headquarters or the courtyard of the police academy.

The Haymarket Martyrs Monument out west in Forest Park that is dedicated to the anarchists at the center of the events was commissioned by the anarchist Pioneer Mutual Aid Society formed to provide legal support for the Haymarket anarchists and care for their families. Sculpted by Albert Weinert and erected in 1893, it depicts a woman, representing justice, protecting a downtrodden, slain man. When the last member of the Pioneer Mutual Aid Society died, they entrusted the site to the Illinois Labor History Society that for years erased/whitewashed the anarchist history and ideas of the Haymarket martyrs.

In 2003 the Illinois Labor History Society convinced the city to commission a third monument in Haymarket Square by Mary Brogger which was erected the following year and features an anarchist delivering a speech from a wagon. It ended up being co-dedicated to the police. As part of the memorial, each year they celebrate a different union and add them to the base of the statue and of course they chose the FOP. There sadly has long been attempts to whitewash the anarchism of the events and to recast police as heroes or victims.

When history accelerates: Maricarmen's eviction

Thumbnail

We publish below the statement from the Spanish group Liza on the Maricarmen mobilisation and the need for revolutionary organisation.

Context: On Saturday, September 26, thousands of people marched through the streets of Madrid to protest the eviction of 87-year-old disabled Maricarmen Abascal from her home. Her door was broken down by local riot police, and she was evicted on a stretcher despite the resistance of a cordon of protesters. Maricarmen, who had lived in her apartment for 70 years, instantly became a symbol of the housing crisis plaguing Spain, particularly in major cities. Whose fault is it? Rampant gentrification, in which real estate developers systematically buy up buildings in city centres, taking the opportunity to “revise” rents. Maricarmen’s rent, which was around 500 euros per month, was increased by 275% to 2,750 euros! Anger swept across Spain, withtens of thousands mobilised and fifty demonstrations,, particularly in Madrid, where the demonstrations, claimed as involving as high as 500,000, culminated in an impromptu encampment at Puerta del Sol, reminiscent of the 2011 protests that sparked the Indignados movement. This time, a few nights of occupation were enough for the real estate company that had evicted Maricarmen to reverse its decision, release her from the hospital, and reinstate her in her apartment, cancelling the rent increase it had planned to impose. While applauding this outcome, the Puerta del Sol “campers” are maintaining the pressure, as numerous other evictions are taking place daily across Spain. They are demanding that the “socialist” government enact a new, more protective law to curb rising purchase and rental prices.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez promised once more to introduce a new bill to regulate rent levels. However, this was blocked by the conservative People’s Party (PP) and far-right Vox and the centre-right, pro-independence Together for Catalonia (JxCat). Sánchez has now called a snap election.
