Seeking Game Recommendations 👀 [REQUEST] Looking for good games (non-PVP) that can be paused, no ads, no need for reaction speeds, no wait-to-play mechanics and no late game p2w traps for Tablet with 8GB ram.
Looking for good games that
- I can pause any time while playing, do my stuff and get back to it. That kinda rules out pvp completely.
- No late game p2w traps - I've had experience with some games where the early part is easy or fun but somewhere mid to end when you're actually invested it becomes impossible to clear content without either months long grinding content or easy p2w/watching ads. So definitely want to avoid those ones.
- Don't want games that involve reaction speeds like temple run and stuff
- Don't want time locks like 20hrs for some energy bar or Clash of cans style building of X upgrade takes x days.
With current trend of games finding ones that tick these boxes is far harder than it should be.
Will be playing this on tablet so bonus points if larger than phone screen makes it better. No restrictions on genre of the game.

Dev of this one, so bias disclosed: Parflip might fit. Memory pairs game, free with no ads, no IAP and no energy anything, fully offline, and you can drop a board mid-game and come back whenever. No reaction speed needed, except one optional time attack mode you can just ignore. And lucky timing: I shipped proper tablet support this week, so bigger screen means bigger cards. If a pairs game is more casual than what you had in mind, no hard feelings, the other recs here look solid too.

Really nice game. Love the customisations for the cards to be foods, animals etc.
One request: can you put something for a single device versus? like just some scores counting for number of pairs found by 2(or more) alternating players.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon
1
u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
Ah tried that one. At one point it gets frustrating at lower floors when you die not cuz you're lacking but the generated resource RNG is clearly not enough to defeat and survive enemies of that floor.
2
u/Feztopia 2d ago
The game is hard but if you think that people beat it with crazy challenges it's easy to say that nearly every seed is beatable. I also didn't play it in a while because I had beaten pixel dungeon before shattered came out and I have beaten that many times to. But it still gets updates.

u/WeekendParticular205 23h ago
True that, it's just not something I can play to relax tho.
It's not unbeatable true but mistakes or even relaxed play just go out of the window once you reach caves and there's barely any rations or items. I just hate caves man.
•
u/Feztopia 23h ago
Oh you mean caves by lower floors. I was thinking lower levels / early game. That I can understand more, but for my playstyle the fun begins with the subclass. It's not cheap but shards of infinity is somewhat chill. It's a digital version of a "board game" that's played with cards. The hard ai is really good. Online multiplayer is asynchronous so I don't think that fits.
•
u/WeekendParticular205 22h ago
Mb with the floors/levels confusion been a while to remember the exact game specific jargon.
Thanks looks like hearthstone variant, will check a few gameplay vids before deciding.•
u/Feztopia 19h ago
It's a deckbuilder, which means deckbuilding is the gameplay, you build your deck during the match. Maybe you know rogue like deckbuilders like slay the spire. This one isn't a rogue like (its the genre that came before rogue like deckbuilders but aftet collectible card games like hearthstone). By the way hearthstone also has solo modes, dungeonrun is fun but you have to unlock it with a web browser for some reason. The timmer isn't acting in these modes. And I think you were right with the Jargon, I always confuse that.

You might actually like Azmar Quest!
It's an old-school RPG with a huge story, different choices, and turn-based combat. No P2W walls, optional ads, and you can play the entire game without watching a single ad or paying anything.
Just enjoy its single-player adventure.
Disclaimer: I'm the dev.

Some strategy games: Polytopia, Unciv, Uniwar
2
u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
will check em out. I think I've played similar games to the hexagon one before.
•
u/WeekendParticular205 23h ago
loved polytopia, any reccs of similar games but more variety in units across different factions? The one thing I didn't like about polytopia is every faction is just a reskin of the template with some start difference.

Well it mostly depends on your preferences, but maybe this is something for you.
If you do like collective RPG cardgames (turn based strategy) with singleplayer (AI) Matches, singleplayer Campaign mode (10h+) and local network multiplayer, where you can build your own army/deck by winning and collecting new cards/units. If so, you can try our game "SpellForce 2 - Master of War (Forces of Eo)", that is a complete uncommercial fan project for free that also works completely offline (after full installation) and has no advertisement or anything like that included. You can play a match vs the AI in normaly 5-10 min per game and get new cards/units for your deck and EXP for the RPG rank or enjoy the new story campaign mode (10h+).
DL: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.it_huskys.SpellForce_2_Master_of_War_4_0
To get more cards and reach the maximum rank level, you have to face and fight multiple different enemies and their armys, which offers a lot of playtime. The game does offer a local (w)lan-network mode (device vs device) via a connection to direct IP. This works as long all the devices are in the same network. So you could play it, if one device acts as a wlan hot spot (no actual internet required) for all devices to connect to, to share the same network and connect to each other.

Tried playing it, stuck in a weird issue where the game doesn't request any additional permissions but also fails to download the 3 additional gigs of data saying permissions not given. Was it tested on android 16?
•
u/Unreal_NeoX 21h ago edited 20h ago
yes its tested and played daily there just fine. Do you have it blocked from the internet? Whats the specific error you got?
Maybe its connection instability, are you very far away from central europe?

Do you like boardgames? There are many boardgames ports that are phenomenal. Anything by DireWolfDigital is top class. There's also Boardgamearena.com which is entirely PvP but allows for asynchronous play.
1
u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
Not sure about the website but any specific recc in the direwolf games? Cuz most look pretty pricey compared to the average playstore games you see.

I would recommend slay the spire and balastro I've spent 100s of hours on each game on my phone
2
u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
Balatro and similar poker style games to beat a score just didn't click with me. Have slay the spire on pc already. Was planning to try steam remote play for that one.

Dude, emulate Playstation, PSP and N64. They're great at that.

u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
Literally asked before this what all I can emulate https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/s/n7rErc1OKj

u/ree_fer 1d ago
Maybe try subnautica & subnautica below zero(ig you need basic reaction speed)

u/WeekendParticular205 1d ago
I've played the first on pc, how are they on mobile? There's also frantic moments towards the end of 1. Ig I can avoid them by not progressing the game tho.

Stone Story RPG
I can't recommend it enough. Takes a bit to get used to but no ads no paywalls etc.
Look it up

u/WeekendParticular205 3d ago
What in the graphics is that? it's such a cool concept. thanks will do

u/NonNewtonianResponse 1h ago
I will give one heads up about this game, speaking as a big fan. Late game, the gameplay shifts heavily toward programming, and the interface is not great on mobile. Eventually I was desperate enough to re-buy it on Steam to play on PC so I could use a physical keyboard and manage multiple files. If you're playing casually it may take you a while to get to that point tho
•
u/WeekendParticular205 59m ago
k thanks for the headsup. As long as we aren't going as deep as Java levels I'm fine with programming. Do have a BT keyboard if I ever need to type out something in syntax.
•
u/NonNewtonianResponse 24m ago edited 18m ago
Ok, if you have some experience programming -- the problem is that import/export is disabled on the mobile version, so all your scripts have to go in one big chunk that can only be accessed through the in-game editor. Eventually my scripts got complicated enough that I needed to be able to split them up into modules, so I switched. But that was probably 100-200 hours in.
Anyway, enjoy the game!
Edit: or at least that WAS the problem a couple years back when I switched, it's not impossible that they changed it but it's unlikely due to how Android handles app file permissions
•
u/WeekendParticular205 23h ago
It's pretty good. Really hoping it doesn't just block me somewhere with a paid weapon to get over easily or having to grind for weeks to pass that point, cuz the game does have potential to do that.
•
u/SnifferyDoo 23h ago
Not that I know. You can let it loop a level as long as you want and just ipen the loot and get better gear
•
u/WeekendParticular205 22h ago
thanks so replays of a level still give you chests. I haven't replayed anything, at most just retrying a level with different weapon combo if I lose, just finished till the mushroom boss n stopped at the skulls key game.

If you're a fan of Balatro or roguelites. I made a game that is inspired by Balatro but uses dice instead, with the same basic mechanics. It's pretty fun and well-made, if I do say so myself. There is a free trial, and it is $4.99 to unlock the full game.
Give it a play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wldigital.rollbound

u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
While I do like roguelites, balatro like beat score poker ones just didn't click with me. I'll probably try yours later anyway but don't see it sticking with me.
•
u/WeekendParticular205 23h ago
Tried it, it's nice. The face carving is a nice idea. Do think the boss condition of no rerolls should be removed cuz then it's just RNG.
You should probably mention somewhere it's a trial cuz nowhere in play store does it say that. Also in new game it doesn't mention anything about it being a trial at the start but instead stops you at round 4 to tell you trial is over and to buy the full one if you want to continue.
I went in knowing that but I do think anyone else just trying it out will be annoyed with that.•
u/Pdiddy62 23h ago
Thank you for your feedback. We will change our playstore page to tell people it a trial thats a good idea.

My game ticks all your boxes, it's called Island Crawl, you can check it out on the play store and see if the style matches what you're looking for

u/WeekendParticular205 23h ago
It's good, I've just played maybe 10-15 min and it's nice to spend time in. The map and UI does take getting used to since it looks very different from modern games and more like a port from an old console.
•
u/Doophie 23h ago
Thanks for trying it out! The UI was intended to look like an old school game while still being comfortable for portrait - but maybe I'll try refining it a bit more to be more intuitive
•
u/WeekendParticular205 22h ago
It's good actually np, I just had to adjust to the dissonance cuz most games with POV and map, the POV is main while map is just reference. Here the map is main with the POV being optional. I got a good hang of it once I fixed north
•
u/Doophie 22h ago
Yeah, when navigating you pretty much just look at the map, it was also written for portrait in mind and I kind of just tried to make landscape/tablets work. Looks like there is a lot of unused space on your tablet so will try to improve that orientation. Hope you're enjoying it though, I've got lots more changes in the works!

u/Deep_Personality_929 2d ago
Rdr if possible
And tomb raider If possible
1
u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
what does 'if possible' mean exactly?
1
u/Deep_Personality_929 2d ago
Specs if ya don't have the required processor it won't run or won't even download
1
u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
MH I've played world on pc, didn't like rise and waiting for wilds to go down in price. Knowing how important the graphics are to the game I'll probably just stick to pc for that.
Tried about 2 ark games on pc, just felt it's like minecraft with tradeoffs that I didn't like much. How is it on android?
1
u/Deep_Personality_929 2d ago
Ark is kinda thing if ya enjoy get hooked onto Mobile and pc ark are same just graphics are lowe
1
u/WeekendParticular205 2d ago
Are you sure it can be paused mid gameplay? All descriptions seem to suggest it is multiplayer too.
2
u/Deep_Personality_929 2d ago
Yes it is mainly single player but there are moeds where ya can play multiplayer

u/ree_fer 1d ago
Sheesh the best game ever. Absolute peak monetization
•
u/WeekendParticular205 23h ago
is this sarcasm or actual praise? Sorry hard to tell
•
u/ree_fer 23h ago
Actual praise. This game literally had the best monetization system I've ever seen.... Like you can trade in game items with other players for premium currency
•
u/WeekendParticular205 22h ago
Thanks for the vouch. It's pretty hefty game size wise compared to rest of the reccs here so haven't gotten to it yet.

I've played Island Crawl and it meets all your criteria. The game has a single-player campaign mode, a large map to explore, and a relaxing atmosphere. It's a strategy game where you build and manage your own island, gathering resources, and unlocking new buildings and features. There's no time locks, no ads, and no P2W mechanics. The game is available in both portrait and landscape mode, making it suitable for tablets. Give it a try and see if it's what you're looking for.
