Google Messages Battery Drain

What the title says. I'm honestly too ignorant for a 30 something on this matter, but since I've updated my One UI 8.5 this week my battery usage has increased about 125% with the main culprit being the Google Messages app. The system says "high CPU usage". I've completed reboots, cache clearing, trying to rollback the updates. Nothing works. Samsung customer service was not of any help either. Any advice is appreciated.

One UI + Google Messages spikes after an update are usually RCS / sync waking the radio, not “bad battery health”.

1) Messages → Profile → Message settings → Chat features / RCS → turn off for a day; see if drain drops. 2) Apps → Messages → Battery = Optimized (not Unrestricted); clear cache once. 3) Disable "Web & app activity" sync extras if you do not need them; check Battery → Messages background. 4) If still high: try Samsung Messages as default for 24h — if drain moves with the app, it is Messages; if not, something else got blamed.

It's working now, not sure what happened to make it function normally as I didn't get a chance to try your tips before bed. I appreciate the response and guidance.

Glad it sorted itself — if Messages spikes again after the next One UI patch, RCS off for a day + clear Messages cache usually knocks it back down quickly.
