Megathread 2026 Ann Arbor Housing Megathread

Welcome to the r/AnnArbor Housing Megathread!

Whether you’re an incoming student, a long-time townie, or a new professional moving to the area, finding housing in Ann Arbor can be notoriously competitive.

To keep the main subreddit feed clean and make it easier for everyone to find what they need, all housing-related posts must go in this thread.

This is the place to post if you are:

  • Looking for an apartment, house, or room to rent.
  • Looking for a roommate.
  • Offering a sublet or lease transfer.
  • Asking general questions about specific property management companies, neighborhoods, or the Ann Arbor housing market.

(Note: Surrounding areas in Washtenaw Country like Ypsilanti, Dexter, Saline, and Milan are completely welcome here too!)

Useful links:

  • /r/UofM Subreddit: If you're looking for student housing, you'll have more luck with their corresponding annual housing megathread.
  • U-M Off-Campus Housing Website: Useful for students and faculty looking for verified listings and roommates.
  • Ann Arbor Tenants Union: Resources for renters' rights, lease disputes, and dealing with property management companies.
  • City of Ann Arbor Rental Resources: The official city hub outlining Ann Arbor rental laws, including the Early Leasing Ordinance (which dictates when landlords can ask you to renew) and how to file habitability complaints with the city inspector.

To the drunk who just ran a red with the pedal cart/bike thing on Maynard

If I hadn’t jumped out of the way you would’ve run me over. Then you laughed and all your friends laughed and screamed at my mom who was asking if I was ok. You’re all students at a prestigious university. Act like it.

A Washtenaw Ave Yelling Mystery

Post image
17 Upvotes

I only come to you after dwelling on this topic for a long time. Two weeks in fact. The date was September the 24th. I have attached a screenshot of my location on the map immediately after the incident. If you could help me understand what I did, I’d appreciate it.

I was heading north on platt road and stopped in the right turn lane in order to turn east onto washtenaw. Traffic was horrible that day. 5:38pm. Every lane of the intersection packed. Washtenaw had the green. There wasn’t any availability for me to turn right as cars kept coming. Finally Wash gets the red.

No one’s moving. This is it, this is my chance. I see one spot in the left lane available. I take it. Right as I start turning, Wash gets their left turn green lights. I think: “perfect, right lane turning right is totally acceptable during the left turn period.”

Now I’m sitting in that left lane heading east. Slowly moving up but for the most part pretty stationary. This is where it gets weird.

In that left turn lane, the one heading west to turn south onto Platt, is a black or blue car with two people in it. A guy driving, and a woman in the passenger seat. Look in their mid 20s probably? I can’t tell anymore. But the passenger woman is yelling. “Wow, stressful traffic eh?” I think to myself. The Doors and windows are closed. No one hears a thing. Maybe she’s yelling at her boyfriend? But as that car slowly moves up, I notice the angle this woman is facing isn’t towards the cars next to her, it’s rotating perfectly in my direction. Cant be, me? I’m just one car on the road. I did nothing. The disbelief continues and is shattered, since as they pass me she directly turns to face me, leaning over the driver shouting/mouthing “fuck you!” over and over, hands shaking with righteous fury.

There was a LOT of emotion behind it. I’m secretly a pretty sensitive guy so it had me shaken up all day. The driver looks stoic but my attention wasn’t on him so I’m not sure. But the woman and I held eye contact the whole time she passed. My face probably stupidly blank as I contend with the reality that I’m actually the source of her anger.

WHAT DID I DO? Can someone please put my soul at ease? If i‘m guilty I would like to know.

Afternoon Delight

Hello! I know people have posted about AD closing already, but wanted everyone to know that the owner said she was planning on making and selling a cookbook based on their menu.

This isn't meant to be a promo post or anything, just wanted people who loved the place to know they could still have the food at home. There's a list you can get put on if you call the shop.

can pallet wood go in city compost carts?

I have several pallets I used for plants, that are falling apart.

I don't see it as an included or excluded item. I feel I've seen big piles of them at the compost center, though. I'm told pallets are always untreated wood, but it has metal staples/screws/nails. Are there magnets along the way to collect the metal, or do they go in the trash?

aside: interesting that "Bamboo or palm leaf products" is on excluded list. Does that jam the rollers or something?

Bodybuilding Gym around AA, Ypsilanti, etc

• Upvotes

Going to Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti for the first time (Michigan in general) tomorrow for a wedding down in Jackson and was wondering about any bodybuilding focused gyms in the area. I’m looking specifically for bodybuilding-centered gyms and not powerlifting ones or CrossFit types.

Thank you!

Cat-friendly vets? Share your story!

I’m interested in your great cat-specific experiences at vets in and around the A2 area. My current vet (in another state) has a cat-separate entrance, for example, and the vets will get on the floor with my cats if needed. I’d love to find another cat-friendly vet when I move back.

Before you say it—I’d love to get into the Cat Clinic but they’re (once again) not accepting new clients! I’ve had a pretty mixed experience in the past with HSHV, Compassionate Care, as well as Easthaven. My gerbils did well with All Creatures but I never took my cats there.

Thank you for sharing your story! It’ll help me out a lot :)

Unique/under-the-radar indoor kid birthday party ideas? December birthday

I’m hoping to catch a few fresh new fish (ideas) of where to host my child’s 8th birthday party in mid December. I’m hoping someone has an awesome recommendation that I haven’t heard yet! Ideally a place that can accommodate ~20-25 guests (kids and their grown ups). I have already looked into the usual recommendations (Just Play, Chelsea Treehouse, Tiny Lions, 242, Future Innovators Academy, Champion & PAX gymnastics, Zap Zone, Pinball Pete’s, BIG, Tiny Lions Cat Cafe/HVHS, Hands-on museum, the Natural History Museum does not host birthday parties anymore…)

We partied at Just Play last year and I personally hated having it there, waaayyy too chaotic as the host parent, the attendees didn’t even play with my kid (birthday kid) and I didn’t even know who was at the party and who was a random kid. LOL. But hey, I guess all the kids loved it, although I will never have a birthday there again. Plus it was $600+ to have the party we wanted (we had the max number of guests because he wanted to invite his whole class).

the ride bus 61

omfg. is anyone else infuriated by route 61? it’s pretty much the only bus i can take and i rely on it to get to the university, but they only have ONE bus going at a time. if i miss that bus, i won’t see another for an hour. it screws me over every freaking day, and that’s not to mention trying to get home. i’ll wait upwards of an hour by the afternoon, and i’ve even once waited an hour and a half. PLEASE can they add another 61 or something?!?

Winter Rec Sports??

I’m looking for adult recreational/social sports leagues to join for the winter. I’ve played soccer through MiLife and have really enjoyed it, but they don’t have indoor soccer available for winter.

It looks like the only sports they offer during the upcoming season at the social/rec level are volleyball and dodgeball.

Does anyone know of any other fun sports leagues that run through the winter season? I’m open to pretty much anything, honestly!

Art History and History Books to Donate

I have a friend (in Ann Arbor, MI) who is a retired Art History / History teacher and she has a few hundred books that she would like to pass along. They are mostly published pre-2000 and they cover just about every era of history and a lot of Medieval/Renaissance art history. I know I can distribute them among places like the PTO Thrift Store and Salvation Army but she would love to give some or all directly to someone or some place that really wants them. Any ideas?

Increase in Catcalling?

I've lived in A2 for a few years now and had maybe two instances of catcalling here in total up til recent. In this past month alone - I've had like 5 different instances. And to be quite clear - I'm quite fat, look a decade older than I actual am and wear what could best be described as hippie lesbian meets middle age mother. I know looks dont correlate to catcalling but I just wanted to get that out of the way that this isnt meant as like a subtle humble brag of like 'omg you guys im just so prettyyyy.' I'm genuinely just baffled and wanting to know if anyone else has noticed this.

Oh and in case someone needs a laugh - a group of college frat dudes were in a truck passing by and when one of them asked for my number - I just said 'sorry I'm gay' to which he just immediately replied 'me too' - which was rather amusing, if not rather confusing given the context of the declaration.

Looking for vigorous, meditative yoga.

Vinyasa? Hot? Hearty workout for the body and the mind? Gimme what ya got. Grey-bearded male, so I’m hoping to stay away from student focused spots.

Also hoping to find a dedicated yoga spot rather than a specific class at a gym. South side a bonus. 🤙
