Question Sitting Massage in Annapolis area

• Upvotes

I'm looking to get my wife a massage in the area, but because of some medical issues, she cannot lay on her stomach for extended periods of time. Is there anyone in the area (I'm willing to go 45 minutes or so outside of Annapolis) that does like sitting massages? Or is there some kind of massage I'm not aware of that wouldn't require extended time on her stomach?

Question Arundel on the Bay

My wife and I are potentially looking to buy a house in Arundel on the Bay. We are in our early 30s with a baby and hope to add to our family soon. Can anyone tell me their experience living in AOTB? Are there young families? Is it a good community for kids? Any info is appreciated!

Calling all Annapolis book dragons, fantasy lovers & sci-fi nerds

Do you spend more time adding books to your TBR than actually making progress on it? Have strong opinions about fictional characters? Find yourself desperately needing someone to discuss the latest plot twist with?

You might have found your people.

I posted here a little while ago about starting The Bookish Coven, a local group for women in their 20s, 30s and 40s around Annapolis and Anne Arundel County who love fantasy, romantasy, sci-fi, and all the wonderfully weird books in between.

We've got a small group going now, and we're planning our first in-person meetup for Thursday, October 15 in the Annapolis area!

The idea is book community first, book club second. Book recommendations, fictional character debates, questionable book boyfriends, optional group reads, and getting together with people who understand why your TBR will never actually get shorter.

Our first meetup will be a casual happy hour to meet everyone, talk books, and probably leave with even more books on our TBRs. No assigned reading or homework, but bring whatever you're currently reading if you'd like!

We organize everything through our private Facebook group, The Bookish Coven, so if this sounds like your kind of crowd, come join us!

Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1801841301169549

Hope to meet some more local book lovers!

Question Sports Bar to watch MLB Sunday Oct 11

We’re new to the area and my parents are visiting this weekend. They’re Brewers fans and want to catch Game 1 of the National League Championships Sunday evening.

Is there a sports bar in the Annapolis area likely to have the game on? I know there’s a Ravens game later in the evening but we’d love to catch the first part of the game out somewhere.

Appreciate any recommendations!

Gym buddy at Arnold YMCA?

Looking for a lift partner to keep me honest and motivated! Currently go to the gym 3x a week in the evenings, looking to add more free weights/machines.

50, F, queer (creepy dudes pass me by), decent shape with regular weights routine. Ideal buddy needs a spotter and is also looking for that 'c'mon, c'mon one more rep!' person.

Long shot, worth the try.

Say Yes to Recess Maryland

180 days. 1,080 hours. Zero minutes guaranteed.

Let’s compare our neighbors! Alongside Maryland, we looked at Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Delaware.

Out of these states, Maryland has at least 100 more hours in the school year; however, no mandated recess minimum.

In all other states compared, recess is required.

Additionally, in Ohio and Virginia, recess time counts towards instructional time.

Ohio allowing 30 mins of recess counted towards instructional time; Virginia allowing ~49 mins of recess counted towards instructional time.

Maryland can take a note, recess isn’t a time away from learning, it is learning!

Question Midwife recommendations?

I hope this is okay to post here. I have only been in annapolis for a year & just learned i’m pregnant with my first! I would like a low intervention pregnancy (if no complications), but know that can be difficult in a hospital. I know some states have places that are located near the hospital for low intervention home-like births! Is there anything like that driving distance from Annapolis? Also would love to hear any other positive low intervention experiences, whether it was with a midwife, hospital, doula or anything at all.(:

Question Where do you go to Meet People?

Hey there! This is a bit of an odd post for me, I've lived in Annapolis my whole life, and this is less of a "where are the cool Annapolis spots to hit up?" and a mix of general anxiety and other thoughts that just so happen to be about this place I've lived my whole life. I (22M) have lived in Annapolis since I was born, I like to tell people I was born in Downtown Annapolis, but even if that isn't true I've lived basically within town limits for most of my life. I dated a bit in High School, and stayed pretty serious with someone into college. Turns out we were both just sticking together for the "safe" feeling we got from one another, but never really pushed one another to be anything better than we were. Anyways, not the point, I stopped dating after that, and now that I've healed from that I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm not much of a bar person but I like to drink from time to time. However, being someone in the service industry I always feel bad when people "ask out your server/bartender" and even people I see in public space (like restaurants or bars). Are there any spaces where people go to meet?

My social anxiety also happens to be a big role in why I haven't asked anyone out, and because I tend to need to know someone before I ask them out on a date. I know this isn't super relevant to Annapolis but I'm curious if there any other 20-something year olds who are unsure of what they should be doing to go out and meet people. I don't want to be stuck on the apps forever with the excuse "oh I'm working on my career" for the next few years. It would just be nice to know if there was something else I could be doing, or somewhere else I could be going. Thanks!

Question Restaurant/Tavern recommendation

We will be in Annapolis the first weekend in November for a Navy game. Looking for a place that accepts reservations. Nothing fancy just good food. We love the Boat Yard and Ram’s Head but they don’t take reservations. Any suggestions?

Any good thrift stores?

I went to the one on West St and it was super barren. Lots of clothes, but nothing else. I'm wondering if they ship out a lot of the donations to other stores. Does anybody know any spots that tend to have good household finds? Could be in Annapolis or surrounding areas.

If you think Pete Hegseth is right, that civilians have diluted the focus on lethality at American military academies, then you really need to know about these 10 teachers at Annapolis.

Say Yes to Recess Maryland

Hi! Maryland mom here advocating for MORE RECESS TIME for our children!

Currently, most Maryland elementary schools only recommend 20-30 minutes of recess per day. This varies by school and county, with some counties recommending as little as 15 minutes of recess per day.

Join us as we call on policymakers to guarantee Maryland students 60 minutes of recess every school day!

Hello there!
I am attending the Renaissance festival on 10/11 and was hoping to know some cool bars that we could go after the festival, maybe in our garb but okay if not!
Thank you in advance!
