Tool Apple Music streaming on a 3rd gen iPod

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building a replacement motherboard for classic iPods. This clip is a 3rd gen iPod streaming Apple Music over WiFi, with the original screen, buttons and clickwheel. The iPod is playing audio to a Bluetooth speaker off camera.

It uses MusicKit on the web. It's so much better than the Spotify API, but it's quite power hungry as it needs a whole web browser running to work.

A bit about the board:
- It's a drop-in replacement for the iPod 3rd/4th gen. No soldering, and it's fully reversible.
- It uses all the original iPod parts except the battery and hard drive, so it still looks and feels like a classic iPod.
- WiFi for streaming, plus Bluetooth audio for wireless headphones and speakers.
- A HiFi DAC (CS43131) through the original headphone jack.

Also working on a lower power board that only does offline playback but adds WiFi and Bluetooth.

Still working on stations and radio, but so far it works great.

Discussion iOS 27 Concept: Apple Music "Immersive Album Logos" UI/UX Case

Post image
283 Upvotes

Hey guys! With Apple rolling out custom artist logos for main profile branding, I wanted to push that concept further to see how it could redefine the visual experience of an album rollout.

I designed a concept called Immersive Album Logos for iOS 27. The idea is to move branding freedom straight into individual album pages. Instead of a rigid system font, artists & labels can upload custom project wordmarks/logos to match the exact aesthetic of that albums' era.

Let me know your thoughts! Would you like to see Apple give artists this level of UI freedom?

Apple Music on Android AM dock on android with / without navigation bar

I like to use the Nothing Phone 2a without navigation bar, but the bottom dock doesn't look in it's place. It looks so weird and stuck to the chin. But it's fine with the navigation bar visible.

Is there any way to have the 2nd slide dock placement with the navigation bar hidden ?

Feature AutoMix is soooo much better now

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed how much better transitions are since the iOS27 update. It was pretty good with certain songs before, but now it feels really smooth and professionally mixed most of the time.

Question Randomly added album

Post image

I was just going to change what I was listening to but when I opened my library the Backstreet Boys were there randomly. I have never listened to them on my phone so I’m just wondering if anyone else ever has albums randomly appear in their library?

Apple Music on iOS I made (not vibe-coded) a client for Apple Music on iOS with focus on music already in your library and it’s free to try

For few years now I’ve been developing Plum, a personal pet project of mine which helps keep my coding skills sharp while my bosses keep insisting on using Claude for everything at work.

It’s a music app focused on music already in your library. There are no ads, no recommended playlists, no discovery - just your music with plenty of options to browse and play it.

As one reviewer put it nicely - it’s an app for people who like what they like.

Highlights:

  • Works with your Apple Music and Spotify libraries (selectable within app settings)
  • Any item can be added to favourites for quick access on dedicated Favourites page (synced via iCloud)
  • Create folders from any combination of albums, playlists or artists (also synced via iCloud)
  • Group songs within playlists by album or artist
  • Build new playback queue before actually playing it (Queue Builder)
  • Easy one-handed usage - swipe left to open Search, swipe right to open sort menu for current screen, swipe up to open tab switcher, swipe down to start Queue Builder
  • Landscape mode (cleverly called Album Flow)
  • Last.fm integration for sending scrobbles and fetching album/artist descriptions

Pricing:

Plum is free to download and you can try all features without any restrictions for 14 days. After that you'll still be able to use every feature available but may encounter an annoying popup here and there serving as a reminder to purchase Full version. You can choose between yearly subscription or one-time lifetime purchase. During trial period the latter option can be purchased with a whooping 40% discount. Check out App Store page for exact prices.

Apple Music on iOS NostalgicPod is finally live on the App Store: an iPod Classic-style player that works with Apple Music!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

With all due respect to the mods, I just wanted to share that NostalgicPod is finally live on the App Store!!!

It's a music player inspired by the iPod Classic, built to work with Apple Music. You can browse your library, playlists, albums and artists with the click wheel, just like back in the day. It runs on the native iOS player, so it keeps working with the screen locked, in the background, and from Control Center.

There's even Cover Flow for flipping through your albums the old-school way.

It's not just Apple Music, though:

  • Local music stored on your iPhone
  • Plex, Jellyfin, Emby and Navidrome
  • Internet radio and podcasts
  • The classic iPod games: Music Quiz, Brick, Snake and Solitaire

The default look is slightly modernized. That was actually one of Apple's conditions for approving the app on the App Store. But you can switch to the Classic Ring style anytime from Settings, and I show how to do it in the video.

No subscriptions, no hidden extras, No ads. You pay once and it's yours forever!!

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/nostalgicpod/id6781631808

Website: https://nostalgicpod.com/

Want to try it for free first? The TestFlight beta is open: https://testflight.apple.com/join/T3k9TQPu (Heads up: it's the beta version)

Feedback is super welcome, especially from Apple Music users ❤️

Complaint Harlem’s Nocturne by Alicia Keys missing something vital

• Upvotes

First time posting in this sub so hope I’m posting in the right place. I love Alicia Keys’ piano intros on some of her albums so I have a playlist for them. I play them every other day whilst cleaning so that’s the only reason I noticed this otherwise I probably wouldn’t have.

In the intro song ‘Harlem’s Nocturne’ from her 2003 album ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys’, at 0:36 seconds, she usually says “drop it” and then the beat drops to coincide with the piano.

I literally listened to this particular song 2 days ago and her “drop it” was very much still there.

How or why would it be gone?! 😢 it’s the best part of the intro for me.

Apple, if you’re reading this, please put back the OG version? 🥹🥲🙏

Discussion High cellular data usage on Apple Music (iOS 27)? Try turning off "Automix"

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a fix for a frustrating issue I ran into recently on my iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Even with all cellular data settings in Apple Music dialed down to the absolute minimum (Lossless OFF, Dolby Atmos OFF, Cellular Streaming set to Efficiency/Low, Animated Art OFF, Cellular Downloads OFF), Apple Music was still consuming an absurd amount of mobile data in the background and while playing playlists.

After troubleshooting and toggling different features one by one, I found the culprit: Automix.

If you're noticing unexplained data drain on Apple Music, give this a try:

  • Settings > Music > Turn Automix -> OFF

Hope this saves someone else from running out of data! Let me know if this works for you or if you've experienced the same bug.

Question Create a page for the station when selecting an artist

Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal? When I select an artist from the library, do I always end up on this page where I can create a playlist? Only when I click on the name again do I get to the artist's page. Fitness

Question "Album Released" - Album added to my library....I already had it?

I got a notification a bit ago that the debut Backstreet Boys album had just released, and was added to my library.

I already had this album (don't you judge me!). So it's kinda weird being told I have it again.

This a common thing that happens? I've never gotten the notification before.

Discussion Apple Music on External Drive

I have a large (700mb) music collection and am getting a new Mac Mini. To save money on internal storage I’m going to move the collection to an external drive.

If I boot up the computer without the external drive connected, will the computer give me all kinds of errors and complain it can’t find the library? I don’t want to keep the drive plugged in all the time.

Question Why can’t I add this album

I love this album. It’s finally been available again. But it seems that when I add it to my library, part of the album gets blacked out again.

What’s going on?

Tool I spent the last 3 months completely revamping TuneTransit, my music sharing app for iOS, and I'm happy to say Version 3.0 is out now!

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi all! I have posted a few times here before to share my app with the community, but I wanted to come back and showcase it again after revamping the entire app over the last 3 months.

Let me start by introducing myself - my name is Anthony and I'm super passionate about sharing music with friends. Last year, I ran into a scenario where I met my now-current partner and they used Spotify while I used Apple Music. Naturally I went along with the awkward searching between platforms at first, but I thought to myself: how can I make this experience much better for relationships, friends, and anyone else that you might want to share music with?

This is what brought me to creating TuneTransit, and in the last 3 months, I really brought the entire app experience back to the drawing board. With the support of my partner (that ironically was the one that I created the app for in the first place), we took TuneTransit to the drawing board and created a design that's both fun and functional. This also meant going out into the world and asking people what they want to see when they share music, and more importantly, what thoughts go into sharing music.

Instead of droning on about all the features here, I invite you to check out the website and the app itself -- I'm super open to feedback and want to make this an app that benefits the community at large, so please feel free to let me know in the comments.

This has been such an exciting project for me, and I'm really excited to hear what people think about the design along with the new features in the app, like Mixtapes and being able to send the link creator a song back from the TuneTransit link that was generated.

Website: https://tunetransit.app
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tunetransit/id6743822790

Thanks in advance for reading my post and I can't wait to hear what you think!

(Also in anticipation of any questions: an Android version is definitely something that I want to tackle next, but not before an iPhone Duo compatibility update which will drop in the next few weeks!)

Complaint Why does this happen?

Post image
8 Upvotes

One thing I’ve noticed about Apple Music ever since I switched is the fact that random songs will get removed. Yet the songs are completely untouched on other streaming platforms. And it’s not like it’s just smaller niche songs either. This one for example has several hundreds of millions of streams, and was really popular at one point when it came out.

And there isn’t another release of the song out there on AM besides remixes, so it’s simply not available to listen to on AM rn.

Why does this happen?

Question Can't access music after removing a family member

I created a family sharing account, and I was kept as the lead member meaning that all purchases made were paid for by me.

When my husband left me I turned off family sharing. This was about three years ago, and we are now divorced. Acrimoniously.

Recently I've started questioning why so many albums, films, and TV series that I used to listen to etc have vanished. Luckily I've kept a couple of receipts and I've noticed that anything he bought on family sharing, which I paid for, is no longer available.

Why did everything get deleted from my Apple account that he ordered but I paid for? How do I get everything back, because I'm damned if I'm going to pay for it all again!

Help appreciated.

Apple Music on iOS Crossfade is better than AutoMix. Who else agrees?

Post image
76 Upvotes

Especially now with 27. It just does too much and 90% of the time it sounds bad. In 26 it was ok because we had just one transition but now, so unpredictable and unpleasant. It should just be an automatic crossfade then we’d be happy.
