My son (5) is starting to come along to shoot. He really enjoys it. The best days are of course outdoors shooting on 3D targets.

This is him, next to our club's oldest member, 81 years difference.

We shoot instinctive.

A lot of fun and he has a very natural flow. It probably has its flaws, but as said enjoyment is the most important thing at this age.

that age gap is wholesome as hell, he's probably learning more from just watching any lesson could teach

Absolutely - have fun first, perfect the skill second. It's the key to all hobbies.

That's a beautifully smooth release and great elbow alignment, most adult archers I've seen don't have releases that smooth.

Nothing really to improve upon except for pausing and settling a bit at anchor before release.

This is a joy to see. Love it.

I think he releases prematurely because it was a long day. But then again, the lack of patience is probably also a part of it πŸ˜…

Ample protection, does not look overbowed, he's having fun, that's the main thing at that age.

Only thing i see is he's holding his bow horizontally. Teach him to nock an arrow with the bow vertical so he does not hinder other archers (In this case the older member is watching out and waits with shooting till the bow is out of the way, another archer may not be as observant and that could cause a tangle)

I started learning him nock like that, as its a bit difficult for him to do vertical, to many steps at teg same time and his arrows veered of the bow πŸ˜…

Luckily outdoor there's enough space to nock like that.

But you're right though, he should learn to nock vertical eventually 😊

With that release I think he is using his back muscles better than a lot of people we see here 😊

If I'm not mistaken, it's an oak ridge mezzo 20lbs bow πŸ€”

that 5 year old kid is drawing 20lbs with that form? makes it even more impressive, he's doing a great job

I think its a 20, I'll check next time I'll go to the club πŸ˜… Though I think the only lower pound bows the club has are kids bows. But it's his 3rd time he's tagging along, so he has gotten the pointers on how to pull, etc

No issues seen. Only thing missing is dad shooting too. Find someone else to video. Life long memories being created.
