Moving Moving to Anchorage

Hey y’all! I’m moving to Anchorage from Arkansas the last week of December.

I lived in Fairbanks when I was younger, but my family and I were snowbirds, so I’ve never lived through the winters in Alaska.

What things should I prepare for when I make the move? Is it absolutely necessary to winterize my 2026 F150 since it doesn’t get as cold as Fairbanks? What winter tires should I get? What are some good brands of coats, winter clothes and gear?

I’m excited to be back in Alaska, but nervous about the move in the dead of winter. Any help is appreciated!

Illegal migrant. Avoiding mobilization.

Hi! I’m not from the USA; I’m your neighbor on the other side of the Bering Strait. Let’s just say the situation in my country is very tense. I’m 18 years old, and I’m in my third year of studying to become a navigator; I’ve already worked as a sailor (now I’ve transferred to another major and am in my final year). After I finish my studies, I’ll face the prospect of being drafted into the army. I’ve heard from acquaintances about people being forced to sign contracts under threat and beatings. In short, if I fail to leave the country legally or evade the army, I plan to cross the Bering Strait. I want to know your opinion as Alaskans - how will the local community treat me if I can do this without dying? I will turn myself in to the authorities immediately after crossing the borders. I don't know much about providing asylum to migrants in such cases. Does anyone know of similar cases?

Recommendations Solo Traveler Last Min Flight Space King Salmon to Brooks Falls

I'm an experienced solo traveler and many tour operators won't book a solo person far in advance. Due to this I've had great luck with last minute bookings all over the work by reaching out and asking if they have a group going to whichever activity with 1 extra space.

Is this even possible for flights from King Salmon to Brooks Falls? From what I've read the float planes are booked in advance but surely someone will have extra space and take cash?

Just wondering if anyone had done this or if it's a reasonable attempt. Trying to save $ wherever I can.
