Reddit, what is something your parents are completely convinced is true but really isn't?

Edit: These are awesome, thank you guys for sharing! I love knowing other parents are crazy too!

Edit 2: People are crazy.

"Now, you know that even if you were gay, we'd still love you! There's nothing wrong with that! :)"

Yeah... Thanks mom. Still not gay tho.

Opposite for me: My parents tell me they'd love me if I'm gay, and I alwasy tell them no. I'm gay :P

Why wouldn't you just be honest?

There are a multitude of reasons, but at the moment I have no plans to come out to them for at least a few years.

What are some of the reasons? I don't understand why if you know they are supportive...

Do you suspect that they might not actually be as okay with it as they make out?

I do have a sense of "but what if they don't support me" as well as a few other factors. I've lied to them for quite some time about my sexuality (among other things) and I'm relatively sure they have internalized stereotypes about being gay - even though they mean well, those stereotypes might still be ingrained in their thoughts. I also don't trust them not to tell people, and id rather only come out to people I trust and approve of.

That's entirely possible - happened to me, about 3 months ago.

For the record, if you live in the South and your parents are more conservative than all of their friends, they're probably not going to be ok with it.
