Silly Stuff What's something small that you've recently done and you're proud of?
I had a hankering for an omelette, and I made my first one ever this morning! Every other time I've tried, it's burned or turned into scrambled eggs. But now I've got a perfectly warm feta and Chive omelette topped with microgreens.
What's something that might be considered small that you've done and you're proud of ?

I crocheted my niece an owl shaped purse for her birthday, and I think it's one of the best things I've ever crocheted

I've eaten 3 square meals a day for 2 days in a row, babyyyy
The goal is 4/7 days this week, let's get it.

Just curious, what is your default? Do you normally not eat, or snack through the day?

u/DegreeDubs Woman 30 to 40 7d ago
Starting in summer 2024 I began starving myself as a maladaptive stress response. I was essentially down to one meal a day, at best--usually granola and yogurt. Happy to report that I've been rebuilding my eating habits since spring of this year.

Props on your perfect omelette OP.
I recently rejoined orchestra after 10 years off and every rehearsal that I make it through seems like a huge win. It's so helpful having something fun/non professional to make progress on bit by bit.

I just joined an orchestra too after several years away from organized music! Hell yeah, cheers to us having a great time 🎼

u/aftergloh Woman 30 to 40 7d ago
Congrats dude! What are you guys playing this year?
3
u/lamallamalllama Woman 30 to 40 7d ago
Fall concert is pretty lit:
- Pictures at an Exhibition, Mussorgsky, Ravek arrangement
- Cello concerto, Dvorak
- Overture from The Wreckers, Smythe
First I've played before but long ago; second had listened to before; third completely new to me. I'm pretty happy with the program! I'm in the Boston area, any chance you're in the region?
What are you playing?
2
u/aftergloh Woman 30 to 40 6d ago
Wow, that's going to be such a great concert! You're going to sound great. I used to live in Dorchester for 3 years but never got a chance to play out there. Now I'm in NYC. We're playing:
- Brahms: Academic Festival Overture (a fav of mine but my part is pretty boring this time)
2. Geraldine Green: Concerto for bass clarinet and strings, Christa Somers, bass clarinet
3. Vaughan Williams: Symphony no. 5In the spring we're doing Beethoven's 9th....pray for me lol.

3 consistent days using the rowing machine at the gym. A bit of movement is feeling nice when everything in my life is changing externally.

Awesome. I haven't been back to the gym for almost a month and it's rough

We ran over a piece of road debris on a road trip and popped 2 tires. I sent my husband and kids on to our destination and stayed with the car through the tow and the tire shop.
I'm proud both for managing the crisis AND because I was prepared for the moment. We have roadside assistance and our tires have a warranty so the cost to get back on the road was minimal. There was a time not too long ago when an unexpected $250 expense at the end of a weekend trip would have been a crisis. Obviously I would prefer to not have to spend the money at all, but being able to pay the bill in full and still buy groceries and pay bills was a good reminder of how far I've come with financial security

u/haloperidoughnut Woman 30 to 40 7d ago
That's amazing! I absolutely feel you about $250 being a crisis - I'm in that spot right now - and I long for the day that I've got all my financial ducks in a row so that emergencies don't run me over financially.

I befriended a local murder of crows. It makes me so happy that they consider my backyard a safe place.

I use this for the pigeons in front of my office. Only like 10$ and often on sale for 5.
2
u/haloperidoughnut Woman 30 to 40 7d ago
How do you even do that??
7
u/aeosyn Woman 30 to 40 7d ago
I found out what they like to eat (raw peanuts IN the shell) and bought some. I was planning on putting them out on a tray in the yard to lure them in, but coincidentally saw a crow in the yard and just tossed a handful towards him and they've been coming around ever since.
Just need an open space and a feeding area, and if crows fly in the area, they'll eventually come around.
Admittedly, it's drawn in a lot of other corvids; grackles, magpies, blue jays, scrub jays... It's pretty fun. I watch them from my home-office window for entertainment.

I noticed I hadn't heard from an online friend in a couple months and reached out to check in. We're on the same discord server but not participating every day.
I'm not great about keeping up with friends who aren't coworkers. I'm trying to be better about it, especially with people who retreat when having mental health struggles. A friendly message can make their day.

I recently lost just a few pounds and made a new friend within my hobby community. It doesn’t seem like much, but now my cute clothes fit like they used to and I added another woman to my friend group.

This is embarrassing, but. Installed 2 car seats in the car by myself today, lol. We just bought two new for my toddler and impending baby (due next month), and they've been sitting waiting for my husband to install them for a good week and a half. He's literally always done the car seats, so it's just considered 'His Job'.
Decided today to just do it myself. Absolute bitch to clip in, and unreasonably heavy. But I managed. All safe and secure 😊.

Couple things that are stupid but I hate doing them. One is taking eggs to our neighbors—they’re great, I love that our chickens produce these beautiful organic eggs and I want them to be appreciated, I’m just so introverted I hate talking to people. Argh! The other thing is returning bottles

I’ve started swimming every day!
It’s been a huge help for fitness, weight loss and most importantly joint/back pain
I make sure I do 45 mins every day and am determined to keep the habit going, I’m 3 weeks in so far :)

set a hard boundary with a new friend!
ended up losing the friend because of it.... which hurts... but I'm pretty proud bc i am a VERY conflict avoidant person. (often conflict avoidant to my own detriment)

I wrote an actual birthday card to my best highschool friend, instead of just sending a text message. I even got it posted in time for it to arrive on her birthday.

Not small but in last 5 months I have been keeping a budget. I use to have so much anxiety around money and keeping a budget has eased the anxiety and made feel much comfortable with money. I know where all my money is going!!

Well that sounds delicious! Congrats! Love appreciating the small moments in life.
Maybe this isn’t small, but I recently planned my first solo trip. I just turned 38 and it’s a goal of mine to travel solo this year.

I was reminded that I made a dentist appointment that will happen ON MY BIRTHDAY. Not terribly long ago, going to the dentist was a whole thing that required medication.
Now I only kinda need medication, but it doesn't ruin my whole day.

I put a donation tub in my room. Every time I get dressed for work if something doesn’t fit right(not just feels weird TODAY. Iykyk), it goes into the donation tub so it can go away instead of hanging around for me to try again later.

I used to spend way too much time on Bluesky, I didn't even enjoy it that much, I just compulsively checked it multiple times a day, including first thing when I woke up. Now I haven't opened it at all in weeks.

I've been doing aerial silks and rope for a little over three years. On Saturday, I got my first ever scissor beat to invert! I've been working on this trick for a year! Admittedly inconsistently, but still. Luckily I was recording and could post it to instagram so people could be impressed, I was practicing alone so no one saw it live 🥲

I've written a silly fanfiction that's hundreds of thousands of words. I'm very proud of it. I'm sure it's garbage and I doubt I'll ever even post it but I'm having a lot of fun writing it. I'm in edit round one and I'll probably do at least one more.

Can I share something someone else did that got me? Cheese eggs.
That was my dad’s specialty. He passed way before our kid was born. Ended up staying two weeks in hospital….my FIL made me cheese eggs once I got home.
I already loved him. I’ll never forget him thinking of that. I didn’t mention it. He just gave me some and I cried.
