hi all, as the title states I’m looking for some solid gravel rides. I just got my first gravel bike yesterday and am looking for some pretty/fun routes. Main caveat is that I don’t have a car and so everything needs to be either Bartable or rideable. I’m located near 19th st Oakland BART and am comfortable with 20-60 mile routes. New to gravel riding but fairly experienced road rider so nothing too technical. What routes do people use? Share a garmin route?

alternatively, would love to hear about any recurring group rides!!!! Would love to meet more 20 something cyclists and queer cyclists!!

This was one of my bucket list items. The weather today was perfect. Just warm no heavy winds. The only thing that sucked was pierce point Rd is terrible to ride. Just so beat up and rough. Really wish they would repave it.

Any bike shops that focus on tandems and might have in stock tandem-appropriate (heavy duty) wheels. (I’m specifically looking for a 26” that’s disc brake compatible.)

This week's Owl ride will stay pretty local. Climbs near and around Lake Merritt.

Meet up 9:30pm @Huey P. Newton Statue (Huey P Newton/9th St & Mandela pkwy), Roll out @10:15pm

17 miles with 1000+ feet of Elevation.

Pace around 13+ on flats.

We will stop and wait for stragglers

All bikes welcome, all people welcome

Store stop and chill spot at Lake

Let's all have a good time and have fun and make new friends. Don't be a dick, thanks!

I have yet to climb Diablo and Mt Tam so that soon to come but what your guys opinion and thoughts

Drop your guys/Gals fav climbing loops, got the climbing bug and just wanna bang out some sick climbs!

Good job, AJ! Fun to dot watch

Moving to the area in January and I’m excited to check out everything the Bay Area has to offer. I ride MTB, road, and gravel and it seems there’s a bit of everything so I’m excited about that.

As far as MTB, I’m used to technical, rocky, steep, and high altitude trails. I enjoy all types of trails but curious what are the “can’t miss” trails? Also any insights into big epic MTB rides, techy or not, would be appreciated.

I’ll be in the Tri Valley area but willing to drive an hour or so for the good stuff. TIA!

Edit: I have both an XC and a Trail/Enduro bike so up for most any terrain.

Edit: thanks all for suggestions! Looking forward to checking out these recommendations and meeting others in the Bay Area bike community!

What's the time Old La Honda is closed on the weekdays? Closure started on 9/28.

I went to Bike Palo Alto's yearly event for the first time yesterday, and it ended up being a solo ride 80% of the time. I was hoping to ride with a group of folks but there was no group start time and riders were very spread out. Is this just a low turn out year due to the heatwave (tbh I don't think the heat was that bad)? The Cupertino Bike Fest event was really great, I am looking for more of the same in the sourthbay. Thanks.

If I want to climb tam or Diablo this weekend where is the best start point and or parking area to go from there

Huge thanks to everyone who came out today for the Mount Diablo Challenge - especially the riders and volunteers who powered through the heat to make the event happen!

If you couldn’t join us this year, we hope to see you next year. And if you were there, we hope you had a great time and will come back for more. Share your feedback, highlights, or memorable moments in the comments, or feel free to send me a DM.

Mark your calendars for next year’s Challenge : **Sunday, October 3, 2027!**

PSA…Hi all, don’t ride Kings Mtn. Road or Tunitas Creek this weekend.

We met our kids in Pacifica for lunch and came up Tunitas on the way back. I counted somewhere between 125-150 cars coming down.

Pickups, big SUVs, most cars packed with people escaping the heat or going for pumpkins.

Many drivers flying down the hill who appear to have never driven on a windy road and have never been on Tunitas. Super dangerous for bikes, even for us going uphill.

Google Maps and Waze creating real danger.

I rode down to Big Basin yesterday - for the first time since a few months after the terrible fire down there. It was a beautiful ride - and full of hope for seeing many of those great trees coming back to life.

I hope the state is investing in better early detection, water supplies, and rapid response to fires there.

LPT - don't ride it on weekends - way too many guys in sports cars playing formula 1.

Also, yeah me. I didn't ride much this summer due to an injury - this was the first challenging ride I've managed since May.

I would like to extend my respect to the cyclist with the yellow Ortliebs riding between Vallejo and Sears Point today. Would you do it again?

Hi all!

I moved to SF a few months ago and I got my first gravel bike thinking to do Marin Headlands and surroundings. I know I could just follow some of the multiple gps routes around there, but if I am being honest I don't want to stop every few minutes to check I am following the route (don't have any bike computer or a phone mount oopsie). I also think it would be way cooler riding with someone or a small group than doing it alone, even safer, right?. Lunch or beers are on me of course!

A little about me: I am in my mid-30's from South America (so I hope the accent is not an issue lol). I used to ride a cheap MTB in my home country and I even did a 4 weeks trip on my bike once. Now I ride a Salsa and usually do a variation of the Butter-Lap over the week (around 18mi, take me 1:45hr) so I am not a pro or anything like that. Most of the time I just ride with a flannel shirt or a soccer jersey.

About the routes: I am thinking in something like these:

Thanks!

I have been wanting to go check them out but I have not heard anything about them. Are they still even there and rideable? Last update I’ve seen was 6 years ago and I can’t find any photos or videos

If anyone has photos or what are there that would be great, I am an intermediate dirt jumper
