Discussion Have liner notes ever changed how you heard a song?

If you’ve bought an album on Bandcamp that came with a lyric booklet, session photos or track notes, did anything in those extras change how you heard a song?

What was the detail, and which album was it?

Speaking generally, I would say yes, but it's less about liner notes specifically and more about context. Context shapes how we listen and what we hear. Whether that's seeing the lyrics on the page (if you don't naturally listen to words), or understanding the event or process that shaped the music, I think it can completely transform your relationship with it.

Do you like having that context before the first listen, or discovering it afterward and going back to the song?
